>>21693925I throw the bulb out the moment I notice one of these things. What you're doing is akin to cutting the mould off of bread. Gross.

sometimes I cut it out, sometimes I find myself surrendering to the germ's sweet whispers.
i always cut it out because i like the indentation it leaves behind once removed
>>21693925Not even Thomas Keller or any of his disciples would do some nonsense like that. You're silly.
>>21693947rent free.
>>216939251. that's not a germ, it's a shoot.2. it's literally free garlic.3. just slice it up and add it to the dish.
Yes, I find that it if I leave it in it adds an unpleasant sort of garlic flavor. And I say that as someone who doesn't believe in "too much garlic."
>>21693947I'm German.
i do remove them, i find the sprouts are harsher on the stomach, like there's some sort of extra chemical from it starting to grow
>>21694197>I'm German.
>>21693925No, I"m not a germophobe.
I try to buy garlic that isn't so old it is already germinating. If it does i just remove it because im cheap
>>21693925No, I do fuck yo mama doe
>>21694039A germ crawled up my arm and rested on my neck. When he whispered into my ear, I felt a tingle... He told me how to make a weapon to help us against our enemies. And here's the thing... it's made of germs... it even fires germs... but it stings like you wouldn't believe.

not unless it's started to turn green. I cut the woody root end off though.
It's just people being silly right? Nobody does this right?
>>21693925Don't just look at it. Eat it.
>>21694197I guess it must be like cannibalism for you or something like that right?
>>21694195There's absolutely ZERO truth to this. That's not another part of the garlic that anyone would ever remove. I've read every cookbook in the world and no one has EVER suggested such a thing. Just remove the root at the end. The rest is all usable and all exactly the same stuff. There's no such thing as "the germ".
>>21695416Trust me, no one does this. I've cooked in kitchens all over the world and read every food science book and studied endlessly on garlic. This is something someone just made up for the first time.
>>21693925I don't know what kind of garlic you get but that is NOT normal and you should 100% throw out the garlic. With all the GMOs and pesticides, you just don't know what you're getting anymore... can't remember shit like this 15-20 years ago.
>>21693925No, it dies during cooking.
>>21693925nah I didnt even know that was a thing until I saw a youtube short of a french chef doing it. then later I saw a marco pierre white video where he said something along of the lines of "if I was a professional I would remove it, but im no longer a professional". i.e. he would do it in a professional kitchen

Depends how big it is but usually yes, if I miss a bit I don’t stress too much, however often times it isn’t even worth the effort as the garlic is close to rotting at that point
I dont take them out if I throw them into a soup or something, then I just crush the clove. But usually I do since that's the part that makes your breath stink.
