How are you supposed to use cinnamon sticks? I put a cinnamon stick into my ramen and I figured it would just melt like butter into a powder which would spread throughout the water. It didn't. It's still there. I ate the ramen and I'm now cooking rice in the same water with the same stick. I took a few bites out of the stick but it didn't feel nice it felt like eating sugar or something. It makes the water smell like cinnamon.
Yeah. It’s for infusing. Big science talk.
>>21711780I mostly use them for chinese infused sauces that also have things like sichuan peppercorn, anise, black cardamom and such.>inb4 hurr hurr gutter oil
>>21711780>It makes the water smell like cinnamon.that's the point. it's an aromatic.
>>21711780you're supposed to steep it in hot liquid for a while to extract the flavor or grind it into a powder, it's basically tree bark so it's not really going to break down just from cooking. and yeah it's not going to be sweet, it's just associated with sweetness since it's commonly used in desserts. but it was used more in savory dishes too and still is in some places.
Cram
>>21711789>and yeah it's not going to be sweet, it's just associated with sweetnessIs there a gene associated with this? I’ve noticed Ceylon cinnamon tastes lightly sweet to me.
>>21712246no you don’t man, you put ceylon cinnamon powder directly on the tongue? it’s literally because of whatever you’re putting it inthis thread fucking sucks
>>21712246i meant that because it's usually paired with sugar but ceylon cinnamon is a lot milder so some sweetness could be coming through. cassia cinnamon is hotter and tasting that plain won't really give any sweetness.
>>21711780>I ate the ramen and I'm now cooking rice in the same water what the fuck
>>21711780>I put a cinnamon stick into my ramen and I figured it would just melt like butter into a powder which would spread throughout the water.I applaud ambitious experimentation but did you not look up what cinnamon was before you tried to use it?>I ate the ramen and I'm now cooking rice in the same water Dude stop.
>>21711780Those are not cinnamon sticks.
I mostly use cinnamon sticks for rice pudding and apple sauce. When it's done, you take it out and toss it.
>>21711780Have you never used whole spices?Crack it into pieces, drop a couple in, take out after cooking
>>21711780>I figured it would just melt
>>21712552>Those are not cinnamon sticks. When did cassia start being mislabeled as cinnamon?
>>21712637>Cinnamomum cassia>mislabeledlol cinnamomum zeylanicum fanboys are such clueless spicelets

>>21711780I haven't read something this retarded in a while. Thanks, OP.
I only use the sticks for mulled wine or cider. Just buy the pre-ground for everything else.
Put it in curries and ciders and shit. Why ramen?
>>21711780>I figured it would just melt like butter into a powder which would spread throughout the water.Fucking kek.
>>21711780>I figured it would just melt like butter into a powderI'm slightly concerned about your butter, that melts into a powder...
