Not sure if gen z feels the same way, but as a millennial I never actually got my meat or cheese cut at the store deli counter and I'm in my 40's now. As a kid I used to wait in line with my mom to do this. As an adult I'm just not doing that. The price of deli meat is one of the things at the grocery store that really shocks me every time. Buying stuff for sandwiches used to be a cheap, easy item to have for the week. Now it's forty to fifty bucks. I got a pound and a half of pastrami last week that was 28 dollars.

If they're good at their job they can estimate the weight pretty easily. When i worked in a cold storage for fruit and vegetable picking orders for restaurants i could accurately gauge the weight just by feeling it in my hand and only be off by a couple of percent at most.
