these Vietnamese might be onto somethingi tried espresso and moka with the robusta and both were ok but just made a v60 and its pretty damn smooth.tasty too but less punchy.and the caffeine feels way stronger too.like only 2 sips(of 300ml) and i feel like i need to take a break or i might die.i was watching an old brian quan video and he mentioned he was doing 3 pours, 100g each, so i copied that.and i ran out of sibarist filters which are soooo much faster than the stock hario v60 ones.took like 3 minutes after the final pour to fully drain, compared to the sibarist which took like 40s at most.well, at least now i know how ill be brewing the rest of the bag.

Is the Sage Bambino tamper considered ok? As a newbie I'm torn, when I tamper it takes a lot of effort to not have clumps of coffee on top and weird waves on the sides, just wondering if it's a severe skill issue or if I should get a better tamper.Looks like it's all plastic, very often I see coffee remains on the bottom, surely it's not normal?

So starting a 9-5 and no more sleeping in. I do enjoy coffee and have a cheap espresso machine, decent grinder, and also use v60 a bunch. But I'm looking for quick, hassle free coffee option for when I'm too tired and unmotivated to make coffee after waking up.Nespresso makes a coffee pod machine that's $90 for Black Friday which I'm looking at.
Bought a new tamper after many years. Huge difference. The coffee is good today.
>>21733951My ex had a machine like this. It tasted worse than freeze dried instant. I would rather kms than drink podslop again.

>>21733959no
>>21733964The Nespresso is like 1/3 the price tho.Maybe the price can be offset by using my own coffee vs the pods. I dunno.
>>21733983I did the math on this once and nespresso pods are something like 10% more expensive than good enough coffee and much cheaper than gourmet coffeethough the vertuoline (in ur pic) is awful, the one to get is the original line. The original line is a much smaller machine, much more reliable, cheaper pods and a better cup of coffee. The vertuoline uses a bunch of stupid gimmicky bullshit to appeal to soccermoms that have jobs in HR and are assigned to purchase a pod espresso machine that's not too expensive but not excessively cheap for the break room. I recommend the purple pods, I think they're called arpeggio.
>>21733963No it was a Nespresso. It really did suck, I'm amazed people would buy this shit
i buy the pods and open them and pour them into my own stuff
Anyone have pourover scale recommendations? Preferably not some ultra expensive meme shit, I've been using a cheapshit $15 scale from Amazon with a timer and it's been great but I've started doing larger switch batches and the scale maxes out at 1kg so I need something with more capacity.

>>21732732Well this my second day in a row using this penis pump. I just used some bustelo. The first day I think I used too much water. I drank it black. It tasted a bit too acidic and bitter. The tube empties to about halfway like immediately so I thought I needed to add more water. The second day I just followed the directions exactly. Tried it black again and it was less bitter tasting. Added a splash of oat milk and it tasted pretty much perfect. Overall I think it was a good purchase.
>>21734449do the inverted method and use proper beans makes some good coffee
>>21734455>use proper beansI used to drink craft beer a lot and one thing I learned is that you need to drink crap beer to really appreciate good beer. >>21734477i'm left handed and i feel like the right side would feel the best for me. that means right handed people would put the filter on the left
>>21734477It's more about how the fibers line up in the paper, sometimes they wind to the left, sometimes they wind to the right
>>21734628I suspected this. An European man taught me to roll spliffs twenty years ago. I think he was left handed and taught me how to roll lefty even though I'm a righty. >>21734888it still wouldn't be self-regulating without electronicsit could be advertised as self-monitoring. but not self-regulating
>>21734894what about a bimetallic strip that triggers a rube goldberg style contraption that lifts the kettle off the heat once it has reached the desired temperature.maybe a hair trigger set inside a thermometer like thisthe pointer hits say 85c(thermal mass will drag it to 90) which physically interacts with a trigger which then mechanically turns off the heat.or you could use use a wound clock that times the water and mechanically turns off the heat.you have timed that the given vessel filled with x water reaches the desired temperature in 5 minutes, the clock hits 5 minutes which triggers the heat shut off.you could alter the mechanism of a cuckoo clock.or even a bag of sand that empties at a set rateat 5 minutes it has deposited enough sand to lift the kettle off the heat using a series of ropes and pulleys
>>21734858>he wants temp controlled without an electronicElectronic is fine. Just analog, no computer bs

>>21734917>what do you count as a computer?I just don't want any digital stuff in it. I'm going to assume there are no kettles on the market that just let me adjust a dial for voltage and a thermometer readout....
>>21734924I guess you are just too dumb to realize what you are asking for, why none of it makes sense, and why even if it hypothetically did it wouldn't work like you think it does.
>>21734924>dial for voltage and a thermometer readout....no i dont believe sosimplest you can get is a simple electronic on/off switch.i think a similar discussion has occurred before and i think it resulted in finding there was some like laboratory grade induction hotplate that had something similar to what you are talking about but it was wildly expensive and physically large.(use these search terms to find examples "analogue temperature controlled hot plate")>dial for voltage and a thermometeri feel like you could diy this relatively easily tho.
>see they made an all glass/metal aeropress premium>check it out>it's 200 bucks what the actual fuck
>>21734934>I guess you are just too dumb to realize what you are asking forI know exactly what I'm asking for.I'm asking for a kettle with an analog potentiometer that controls voltage.Should be pretty easy and cheap for someone to manufacture, and it wouldn't be hard to set a readout on the dial that corresponds to a fairly accurate temperature estimates. fuck computers.>>21734936>i feel like you could diy this relatively easily tho.Probably, I just don't have the skills to do it.
>>21734936Okay a lab grade hot plate and a dumb kettle isn't a half bad idea... It would look ungodly in the kitchen though
>>21734942>not aeropressing with your bong
>>21734946>readout on the dial that corresponds to a fairly accurate temperature estimatesThat assumes that you're going to be filling the kettle with the exact same amount of water every time.
>>21734958>That assumes that you're going to be filling the kettle with the exact same amount of water every time. No, it just means it takes longer to reach that temp if I use more or less water, hence the thermometer.
>>21734946Except adjusting voltage wouldn't actually do anything aside from change how long it takes to come to the boil which is a useless unless the temp of the water you add is always the same, the volume of water you are adding is always the same, and the ambient temp is always the same. You'd still have to put a thermometer in it, watch the thermometer, and then remove it when it gets to your desired temp in which case just buy any kettle and pop a thermometer in it.
>>21734970To add to this there would still be no way to have it shut off at a certain temp so you're always going to end up with boiling water or watching a thermometer and pulling early.

>>21739522I brew 300ml typically and filters for like kalita 185 and clever hold about 30ml which is 10%. A big filter like a chemex will constantly be pulling water up through the brewtime and will be a lot more than that.
>>21739533good decaf tastes good
>>21739533I moved to exclusively decaf a little more than a year ago and I think it's about the same after learning how to brew it properly, it also got me into roasting. Some things worth noting are that you will have less selection and that selection will be mostly darker roasts. You can find light, but depending on where you live you might have to buy online or roast it yourself.
>>21739579>learning how to brew it properlyI was unaware there was a different method for decaf. If I go down this rabbit hole and am still reading about it 12 hours from now, just know that I hate you for starting me down this path.
>>21739538I just tried with a regular Hario V60 02 size filter and it only held 3.3 grams of water after rinsing.
>>21739582>he doesnt even know about the different types of decaffeination oh anon...well first you can start here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYTSdlOdkn0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IszQ2JR3Olchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRk3cmJZ7CEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj0A6iJIcuUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUtU9UBwJJc

What are some beans that are relatively cheap and would work fine as a bulk batch iced coffee?
>>21739785what a strange thing to say
Guys, what's the best roast level for coffee beans that have been excreted out the asshole of a glorified Malaysian shitweasel?
>>21739800just under 5th crack
>>21739785Atomic Coffee Roasters are my go to for solid fresh roasted beans that are pretty cheapyou can get single origins for as low as 39 bucks for a 2 lb bag
>>21739806cool, I'll check them out.I'm tired of spending >= 25 dollars per 12 ounce bag
>>21739776About 15 seconds or less, just waited for all the water to go through
>>21739816i wait about a minute while prepping other stuff so my filters(the same ones) probably have less.but im confident in saying anything less than 10g of water doesnt have any effect
>>21738795these produce a much higher quality in my experience. Idk why.
first time doing the B&W advent box, a few days left to start
>>21738795 this is a nespresso pixie. They switched things up a couple years ago and licensed different original line models to diffferent manufacturers. The pixie is great, its all you need, brews excellent coffee, uses cheap but good pods, and runs like a sewing machine>>21734788 this is vertuoline, crap to stay away
>>21740003>brews excellent coffee, uses cheap but good podsYeah no.
>>21739982How many mg/oz is each week?
>>21740259100g each, if I v60 I use 24 grams each cup so about 4 per week. It's cool because I have another bag of stuff I just opened that I can drink on days between it and see how it changes.
>timemore c3esp pro>Bialetti New Venus 6tz 235 ml>lavazza decafr8got off coffee for a few months i decided i'll start drinking decafi value convenience, honestly spending 1,5 minute on grinding every time i want to drink coffee seems like a bitch

>>21740359>timemore c3esp promeh. The 'best' grinder within that price point is personal preference. Many go with the K6 because it's burr is a clone of the C40 burr, but that's not necessarily the best burr out there, just the most popular. Don't want a manual grinder? DF54 is the cheapest electric grinder that's not absolute trash. >Bialetti New Venus 6tz 235 mlMoka makes pretty mediocre coffee. Definitely over-hyped as a brewer. You're better off with an immersion brewer or even just a small saucepan and sieve. If you can get a gooseneck kettle, I suggest getting a pourover brewer. The Hario Switch doubles as an immersion brewer as well as pourover. >lavazza decafLavazza is poop. Worst supermarket coffee I have tried. Anything else would be better.

>>21730962I feel like such an amateur when I look at coffee communities online and see how into it people really are. Meanwhile I just enjoy my coffee and coffee-based beverages whenever I can. I just pick out the best deal for whatever coffee grind is on the sale at the store. Anyone else like Starbucks here?
anyone else make a regular espresso and a decaf espresso back to back so you can have the decaf as a chaser to the regular?
>>21741114>anyone else make a regular espresso and a decaf espresso back to backYeah, sometimes.>so you can have the decaf as a chaser to the regularNo, not for that reason.
anyone else reuse the same grounds until there's no more color coming out of them?

I just tried my switch for the first time. This thing sucks at making coffee and now I can't play mario kart.
>>21741785had me in the first half
>>21740781coffee is surprisingly complicated! a lot of the info thrown around isn't great which makes learning even harder. even at the professional level the amount of disagreement is staggering. for example, scoring coffee isn't standardized. also, the majority of people online don't have a professional background in coffee so they're all amateurs too. the most important thing is that you're enjoying your coffee which sounds like you are so don't worry too much
>>21741848its like wine. everything is nonsense and in the end of the day, cheap beans are close to the expensive poop bat ones
>>21741876this is a nice thing to tell yourself, but no
>>21741848> majority of people online don't have a professional background in coffeeCyberbullying the Italian retard into a €1000 2 day class might be the funniest thing I've done all year.
>>21742058Yeah? Let's see your certification.
>>21741848Why would we care about someone's professional background in coffee when most people with a professional background in coffee were just shitty baristas who make worse coffee than autists? I don't care if you can draw a bird or a flower in your latte if it tastes like ass. Even most professional roasters don't have a clue how to do anything but char the beans. The anons who just make things they enjoy are magnitudes better than most professionals, even if they have differing tastes and thus contradicting information
>might be the funniest thing I've done all yearinconceivable how trash your life must be

>see Verve on here>looks good, decide to try them out >get the "your order has shipped!" email almost a week ago>tracking still says they're waiting for the package >ran out of my other specialty beansOopsie, we've miscalculated. I've been spoiled by ordering from Coava and some local roasters, I usually get the stuff at my door within 3-4 days. I already had some cheaper beans from Trader Joe's for my wife's lattes, though they're not stellar for just espresso. Just milk drinks for me for a little while, I guess. The TJ's Buunni is actually not bad for the price. I also tried the Bolivian blend, but I think it's a bit dark for my taste.>>21743770>he doesn't brew his coffee in his wife's ass every morning

drinking coffee
>>21744605I've had a signature and now a flair58. Yeah they make great espresso. You'll need something else to heat+foam milk if you go the manual route. I like my Dreo Baristamaker. Minimum capacity is a little big to be perfect for me but it'll work out great for caps. Gaggia/Breville Bambino may be less headache for you though.
>>21744605they can but the 58 is a lot better. Problem I had with this is that you have to heat up portafilter in boiling water. So if you want to just make a quick espresso its a pain in the ass. Even bigger pain in the ass if you are pulling multiple shots. I have a 58 that comes with a better portafilter for bigger dosing, it preheats, and it allows for quicker access/changing of portafilter. I bought 3 portafilters I knock them out and then do cleaning afterwords. You can do turbo shots with manual without any fuss as well.
If turbo shots are not coming out sweet does that mean to grind finer or is it a different ballgame? I'm getting like 10-12 second shot times. Should I be going for shorter duration?
>>21739533>even a small cupB1. You need more of it. Or your diet lends itself to being low on it (sugar, alcohol, SSRIs deplete it). Go easier on carbs in general and/or supplement to see if you tolerate it better. Avoid espresso. Favor Dark Roasts (least caffeine content).
>>21744722The first person I spoke to about coffee told me to just shut up and buy a bambino. Maybe I'll save up and just get one of those. Ty. Rn I use a French press and a hand held frother.>>>21744726Would you recommend the 58 or just get a bambino? The milk steamer would be a plus too. Also, I get my coffee locally roasted, fresh, and then I grind it all for the next 2-3 weeks. Is grinding it fresh before I use it necessary/better?
>turbo shotisn't that the kind of shot that super automatics do? i thought we had taste here
>>21744778>Is grinding it fresh before I use it necessary/better?Yes to both. If you're planning on keeping that same preground workflow you'll need a pressurized basket like some of those cheaper flairs come with. They call it a "Flow control portafiler". White aluminum body Neos are on liquidation for $104 right now.https://flairespresso.com/product/the-neo/
>>21744797Oh either they just sold the last one or the site was bugged for me. Neo Flex, Go, and Classic all have that extra portafilter/adapter for preground.
>>21744780It can taste good. Although I've only ever gotten good tasting ones by accident
>>21744778Depends on your philosophy when it comes to coffee. Do you want to know the ins and outs? Do you value convenience over knowledge? With hand cranked you'll fuck up more but you'll also learn more. It's like learning to drive a car with manual transmission. You understand your car a lot more than an automatic. In the same way less points of error on the machine. No boiler/plumbing that goes bad. This usually makes it cheaper than the autos. The automatic has consistency though. Always grind fresh.
>>21744780it's an espresso shot made with a coarse grind. the idea is that the coarse grind will allow more even water contact throughout the puck preventing channeling. pulls very quick, which i believe is how it gets the name.>>21744734i'd recommend increasing the shot duration first. the coarse grind will decrease resistance so if you're aiming for 9 bar the shot will run too quick and be underextracted. by pulling the shot at a lower pressure you'll increase water contact time and should see improvement. with a manual machine, i wouldn't even look at the pressure gauge and would just pull the lever much slower. aim for 30 seconds to start.
>>21744605You need something for the milk like a bellman steamer and then you have a whole mess of stuff to get out and fuck with just to make a cappuccino and price wise you're already in line with a entry level semi-auto.
>>21744778>shut up and buy a bambinotruethe fact you are asking the question in the way that you are means you should get the bambino.
>>21745213>bellman steamerthey have an espresso attachment now>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuLZdw4oCoI
Seems Espresso Outlet listing those Zerohero grinders for $20 on ebay broke amazon since they're listing the z5 for $35 now.
>>21745458That's pretty cool. I have a vintage bellman that I got just to have in the collection but I never use it. They do work though and are a good option.
