Are Vitamix blenders good? I've been thinking of getting a good blender for a while, and I'm eyeing the 5200 or Propel 750 especially since they're on steep sales right now due to Black Friday. Something tells me the newer ones with way more electronic BS would fail way faster.
>>21732220I have a Model 6300. It's worked without complaints for nearly 10 years now. The newer ones (those with the squat carafe and any touch controls) suffer from feature creep that corrode build quality and core performance:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4nIP0EzwrI
>>21732271Would you recommend the 5200 over the Propel 750, then? The latter doesn't really have much feature creep other than some presets. It's not nearly as egregious as their newer ones with screens and other nonsense. Is there a reason the more stout containers aren't good?
>>21732413>Is there a reason the more stout containers aren't good?Apparently they don't get as a good mount on the rubber seal on the classic motor base they retrofitted it on to. Also because of the wider area relative to the blade it won't generate as a clean a vortex as fast as the narrower container that funnels (no pun inteded) the blending materials toward the center feeding back down into the spinning blades. You'll get the same blend quality in the end, it's just you'll need to make more heavy use of the tamper to move stuff out from the edges and making sticky mixtures (like nut butters) will require larger starting batches to get going.https://lifeisnoyoke.com/vitamix-containers/#narrow-vs-wideThis is why Vitamix Autists/Resellers well often recommend getting a second narrow container if you get a model that defaults to the wide-bottom one, as it's a little troublesome to make a small serving of something like an emulsified dressing/vinaigrette otherwise:https://blenderladyblog.com/vitamix-containers-explained/On the other hand, the compactness of the wide model does it make it fit under standard kitchen counter cabinets. My tall boy 6300 barely fits but I have to throw the rubber lid in a drawer to make it do so (can't fit the entire thing assembled), so maybe measure the vertical clearance of your counter-to-cabinets and see if that's a benefit for you.>Would you recommend the 5200 over the Propel 750, then? >>21732608 AddendumAlso something worth paying attention to is the 5200 doesn't come with a manual Pulse Switch like my 6300 to have fine control over the blend like when making chunky salsa or filling for stuffed pasta/bell peppers/zucchini boats/etc. The Propel 750 does. However, you can still replicate that function with the the 5200 by just using the on/off switch. Set it to the speed you want. Flip it on, flip it off. There's your pulse-function workaround so don't let that be a deciding factor. Hope that helps OP.
