So riddle me this eggucks. I hard boiled a dozen last night for about 9 minutes. Then ran ROOM TEMP WATER into the boiling water as I dumped it because I give a shit about my plumbing. Did this for about 30 seconds until pan and egg water was at ROOM TEMP. I then proceeded to crack the easiest fucking egg shells in my entire life. I mean they broke like nothing and the inside was slimy with water. I ran my thumb around each shell in less then 3 seconds. I want an explanation why this was better then any cold shock or treat I've been led into. These eggs were jumping out of their shells which I took off in a single piece.
>>21732854did you boil the water first this time before adding the eggs and were you previously starting the eggs in cold water before bringing it up to a boil?
>>21732858I did add the eggs with tongs just as it began to boil then kept it at an 8/10 to get it rolling. I have always done this.
>>21732861that's how i boiled eggs without many issues. starting them in cold water like some people say made them stick. did you use ice water before? i suppose if the eggs get too cold either way it can make the membrane stick to the shell more compared to it being room temp or warm.
>>21732854I transition them to ice water that I have waiting after the cooking process for that reason. The shock breaks the bond between the egg itself and the membrane between it and the shell.
>>21732854Useless sample size
I've always just run cold tap water over them and they peep like a dream. ice water may be better but it's a very small margin and not worth the extra effort.
>>21733510>not worth the extra effort.1. fill mixing bowl 2/3 of the way to the top. 2. Add ice. 3. Wait until eggs are done. 4. Transfer eggs to ice water.5. wait.Yeah, it's a real motherfucker.
You used old eggs
>>21732854>9 minutesyou made SHIT
>>21732854>Then ran ROOM TEMP WATER into the boiling water as I dumped it because I give a shit about my plumbingYou think hot water is going to harm your plumbing?
>>21732854Your plumbing can handle boiling waterDidn't read the rest of your post it's too long
>>21733528ThisIt's the only actual difference that matters in the end
>>21732854boiling eggs isnt really that complicated and you cant get good boiled eggs even if you dont follow some guide to a T
>>21733525>cleana and dry mixing bowl>refill ice cube traysit's not worth the extra effort for the exact same result.
>>21732854Whats the julian date on your eggs? I bet they were old.
>>21733677>the exact same result. Is it?Is it, though? How do I know your method isn't going to consume exactly the additional time to peel that my method takes to prepare? Have you done side-by-side studies? I'd like to read your thesis on the subject. Are there any ancient Greek sources? What does the Talmud say about it? Quran?
>>21733691are you having a medical episode? yes I have done both methods. and it's obviously more effort to get a bowl and ice out and fill it than it is to shove a pan in the sink and turn the tap on
>>21733720Hahahaha. I can only imagine how streamlined your life must be. You probably have hard set rules for mundane things that other people would never do, and not even for real reasons, but perceived efficiency benefits. You missed the point entirely. Other than the time it actually takes to fill the bowl from the tap, It's not like you have to lift 300 pounds and carry it across the kitchen to complete the process, and an ice-cold bath stops the cooking process faster than ambient tap water. I can't claim real scientific benefits from this difference, and I don't actually care how you do it, but no, you don't know they're the same thing, and you can do whatever you want to, but don't pretend it's a feat one way and nothing the other way. It's not like you have to wait for the ice to form or pump the well for the water. If your kitchen is like mine, everything you need is within 10-15 feet either way, and it's like three items, not fifty. You're drawing a line in the sand where one isn't needed, and for no real reason other than to take a stance on something.
>>21732854>because I give a shit about my plumbing.well you're a fucking retard to because that temperature gradient is nothing to metal
>>21732854>thinks egg water will ruin plumbingkys
>>21733857Maybe he lives where his "plumbing" is just scraps of plastic precariously arranged to direct the flow of water. Think goblin plumbing in World of Warcraft. A gallon of boiling water might destroy the cardboard he uses as carpet.
>>21732854>Then ran ROOM TEMP WATER into the boiling water as I dumped it because I give a shit about my plumbing. Why not just fish the eggs out of the boiling water and put them in a bowl of ice water, then let the cooking pot of boiling water naturally come down to room temp on its own?Gradually lowering the water temp over 30 seconds will give more carry-over cooking from the temp. Egg shells aren't going to be any easier to remove with your method, you're just letting the eggs cook for half a minute longer, which matters when the difference between stages of cooking is around a minute with boiled eggs.I have to ask how you drain pasta if you can't figure out how to drain less boiling water for eggs.
>>21733939>Why not just fish the eggs out of the boiling water and put them in a bowl of ice waterDo you want him to burn his hands, anon?>I have to ask how you drain pasta if you can't figure out how to drain less boiling water for eggs.He serves it in the water he cooked it in because he gives a shit about his toilets.
>>21733952>Do you want him to burn his hands, anon?I do, he's earned my ire through his inane post.
>>21733974fair
>>21732854Running tap water will cool the eggs faster than sitting ice water.Anyway, the best advice for easy peel eggs is always to steam them rather than boil.
op you have to sell all the eggs
>>21733994>Running tap water will cool the eggs faster than sitting ice water.I stir mine. They don't sit.
>>21732854You shore got purty hands
>>21732854some tricks can help (like starting with boiling water or the ice water bath at the end), but there's no method that works 100% of the times, it mostly depends on the eggs.some eggs peel cleanly and with no effort, others get absolutely destroyed no matter what you do. Usually the older ones are easier to peel, but you can have different results even with eggs from the same batch.
>>21733752why would you willingly choose to be less efficient for no benefit? I feel like I'm the rational one here and you're the one taking a stance for no reason
>>21734351>for no benefitbecause this factor has not been verified to my satisfaction.
>>21734358I don't care about your satisfaction though. I've probably made a thousand boiled eggs in the last 5 years using this method and they peel perfectly. There is no purpose to me using another method unless that other method were easier than putting the pan under the faucet.
>>21734358>>21734351Also, it takes me 30 seconds max to scoop ice into a bowl and put it under the tap. I can walk away from the eggs once in the ice water, and they're effectively refrigerated when I get back to them. Absolutely no proof that there's a benefit to not spending 30 seconds that's I'd just be waiting for the eggs to be cooked in, anyway.
>>21732854The age of the eggs matters more than anything else.
>>21734376in my experience the rate that the eggs cool is the factor which affects peeling the most and running water over the eggs has the highest rate of heat transfer other than manually agitating the eggs within an ice bath which again is more effort for no appreciable benefit
>>21734369>I've probably made a thousand boiled eggs in the last 5 years using this method and they peel perfectly. And your claim means nothing to me. You're no one. For all I know, you've never touched an egg. I don't care if you use it. I do. You can insert them into your rectum if you'd prefer, or just keep rinsing them in tap water. I'm happy for your results. My heart is filled with the warmth of knowing that your egg peeling is not only perfect, but reliable, and I should change my ways, I really should, but I'm addicted to bowls of ice. I've never told anyone that before. Sometimes I fill ten bowls with ice every day. I run out of ice constantly. Last month, I stole ice from my parents. One time I stole ice from the church. It's a sickness. The only thing I love more is sticking hot eggs in the ice bowls, with water. You're right. No one's ever been more correct than you, sir, and I have a problem. I have an ice, bowl, egg problem, and I just don't know how to get help.
>>21734395>than manually agitating the eggs within an ice bath which again is more effortthis part gives me the hardest boner of all.
>>21733542I made soft boiled yolks. I do not like the green olives.
>>21734298>but there's no method that works 100% of the times,Steaming and then running under tap water works 100% of the time.
>>21732854old eggs shell easier than new eggs, if you get really new eggs even the spoon trick can hardly save you
>>21732854>Then ran ROOM TEMP WATER into the boiling water as I dumped it because I give a shit about my plumbing.I bet you "know" a lot about cars and stuff too and like to lecture people. You're the fatass at the gym telling people how to lift with proper form.

>>21733636pvc cant
>>21732861This is how I do it too. Get the water boiling first and then drop the eggs in. Never had an issue. Never had the yolks turn grey either.
>>21734037Why are you doing this?

>>21737334
>>21732854>boil the water first>add eggs>add salt and vinegar (prevents cracking and loosens the shell)>boil for around 8-9 minutes for hard>put eggs in ice cold water or just let water run in the kettle from the fauceteasiest fucking egg to crack
>>21737778Some are bad eggs and never crack properly.
>>21737127>read one line in, then inability to comprehend took over.Read the whole thing, nigger. If you have problems comprehending something like this, you stand no chance in the real world.
