Settle a debate for me. I'm a manager at a grocery store. I've got jiffy cornbread mix, need to pair it with something. I ordered chili to go with it. My boss says chili and cornbread don't make sense together. Am I taking crazy pills? I mean that's a classic American dish right?
>>
you stock shelves at a grocery store. quit arguing with your boss and just put something else up. The job would be done by now if you put half as much effort into moving your ass, as you do trying to prove a point.
>>
>>21753304
>that's a classic American dish right?
No. Do whatever you want, but your boss is right.
>>
>>21753304
Chili goes nest to saltines, cornbread goes next to greens.
>>
>>21753308
I do work. I posted this at home.
>>21753309
>>21753313
Seriously? Sure saltines are another staple, greens will be for when we get closer to new year's. I'm pretty sure chili with cornbread is a classic pairing. Sure there are regional differences, but I'm in the south for crying out loud!
>>
>>21753313
saltines go next to the sardines.
>>
>>21753326
They want you to put up an ingredient that you mix IN the cornbread.
>honey
>sweetened condensed milk
>creamed corn
>jalapenos

Maybe in the south or with the blacks?
Goes pretty good but saltines or buttered bread is clearly the superior chili companion
>>

bitch you're in carolina, you're a glorified yank
>>
>>21753333
No, it just has to be a coherent theme. I mean, you wouldn't mix saltines in with chili lol.
>>
>>21753304
It's a classic pairing. That's pretty similar to what people were eating before Europeans arrived in the Americas. I know some people have preferences but I never heard of anyone explicitly saying they don't pair.

Not when you're cooking it, which was the point I was responding to. Afterward, sure but by that standard cornbread is valid.

Jiffy and railroad tracks are a good combination. Start stocking model trains next to the boxes of Jiffy.
>>
>>21753361
Damn. Are those vats full of jiffy mix? Imagine taking a pickaxe to that...
>>
>>21753304
>I mean that's a classic American dish right?
you dip the cornbread in the chili.
everybody does this.
>>
>>21753364
That's what I'm saying.
>>
>>21753364
>>21753365
you dip cornbread into homemade chili. Not in a can of hormel
>>
>I've got jiffy cornbread mix
No you don't because there's no such thing. It's corn muffin mix. That's why it's sweetened to fuck and back.
As for chili and cornbread, they do go together, but not chili and fucking cupcakes, no.
Crackers are more common with chili up north but in Dixie, cornbread is perfectly acceptable although my dad is a chink so I eat that shit with rice.
>>
>>21753304
Soup beans.

Yeah, He's insane.
Ask him to do a search for chili dinner and see what he gets in the IMAGES tab...
I just did and at LEAST 1/3rd of the pics had cornbread in it.
The other 2 main contenders were cornchips and Green beans.
So this seems to be just a "What I THINK should go there..." on his part.
Do you really want to argue that point with him?
Just know you aren't wrong, but he isn't necessarily either.
>>21753347
OP...I...
There isn't a diner in America that serves chili that doesn't also serve crackers with it.
>>
>>21753389
Thanks. The thing is I already had the Jiffy, so I needed something to pair with it. If I had the chili to begin with I would have gone with crackers for sure.
>>
>>21753304
>I mean that's a classic American dish right?
Certified true, the chili MRE for the armed forces does in fact, contain cornbread with it as a side.

It may not be true for X specific region/town, but overall the US chose to represent itself with Chili + Cornbread.
>>
>>21753376
HUH...Well you seem to know more thatn the Jiffy company does then, don'tcha?
>>
>>21753376
this is true. my family makes this “cornbread” with chili sometimes and I just can’t do it, it’s like dessert

lmao
No.
I, of course, meant my demichino ass eats chili with rice. Nigga, growing up, my dad had us eat Thanksgiving turkey with rice. Christmas fish? Rice. Easter ham? Rice. 4th of July barbecue? Rice. Halloween? My dad found chocolate covered puff rice. Rice rice rice rice rice.
>>21753413
Enjoy your chili and cupcakes, then. I think that shit is nasty with chili but I fucks with Jiffy in general. We've got a box in the cabinet right now. It's tasty. It's just not for the dinner table. That shit is dessert as fuck, homie
>>
>>21753372
you suck my hole while it's covered in the hormel.
>>
>>21753304
>jiffy cornbread mix
Jiffy isn't a cornbread mix though. It's a corn muffin mix - says so right on the box. Corn muffins are sweet and cake-like.

Do they use Jiffy in prison? Or do they make it from scratch?
>>
>>21753853
No it's all a money making scheme Jiffy would be too cheap even though it's expensive
Maybe jails, they have budgets
>>
cornbread & chili is a classic combo. You could put it next to some black eyed peas for a new years day vibe if he wants something different

Yes
>I'm pretty sure chili with cornbread is a classic pairing
It's not. I'm sure it's not terrible so there are probably some people or families that eat them together, but it's not common anywhere.
>>
>>21753304
chili and cornbread are a perfect pair. your boss is clearly an idiot.

Chili & cornbread, tall glass of milk
But that anon is right, that shit is cupcake mix

>>

I eat them together, I like to put a slice of cornbread in the bottom of the bowl and ladle the chili over it
