Let's talk about em.

Soy sauces and the likes welcome too.

Salt is salt and there's not a lot to discuss here. I don't need colored salts. Kosher works for just about everything.
>>
Is MSG a salt?
>>
>>21755910
Yes. That would be the monosodium part of the mclocule. It's not as salty as table salt but it does impart some saltiness.

>>21755907
tastelet.

I'll stick with my industrial table salt thanks, enjoy your goider!

Let’s talk about salts baby
Let’s talk about you and me
Let’s talk about all the good things
And the bad things
That salt-ing may bring
>>
I use kosher mostly, good for pinching, I keep a little 2 oz. bowl of it next to the stove. I'd be down to try the lava salt though, that sounds interesting.
>>
>>21755910
steak tastes better with msg. i then finish it with sea salt at the very end, after slicing. and i use regular iodized salt on fries. the best one is the ultra-fine packets they give out for free at in-n-out.
>>
>>21755903
Sea salt is toxic from manmade pollutants.
Try mined salt from ancient inland oceans.
But all salts are bad for you and only used on low quality meat.

1.Mosho
2.Trapani
3.Norwegian
4.Maldon
5.Camargue
6.Coarse grey sea salt
In that order. Cutfags and rock munchers need not apply.
>>
The people who cook almost never say Himalayan pink salt, if you notice. Sea or water-mined salts always have the best flavor.

I'll have to keep a stock of a couple of these.

I carry Maldon smoked salt with me to restaurants.

What's the difference between salt salt and salt substitutes that are shilled for blood pressure? Is there a taste difference? How do they affect other salt behaviors eg drawing water out of a foodstuff? Is there an application where they would be preferred to real salt?
>>
>>21757097
>Salt increases blood pressure
This is a myth.

KCl (Potassium Chloride) tastes weird

That's the thread. If you can't follow the rules, maybe just don't post?
>>
>>21757097
The only salt substitute I'm used to is ammonium chloride which is what's used in Salmiakki instead of salt. It's tasty but there is an ammonia aftertaste on it which maybe isn't so great if you're going for something savory.

That said, if salt is really so bad, why do hospitals immediately hook you into into big saline bags when you're sick?
>>
>>21757097
i like potassium chloride, its great to sprinkle on food but has a kinda metallic faintly bitter aftertaste if you dissolve it in quantity to season a soup, sauce, stock or whatever like you would salt. i use kosher salt to season food, and KCl as table or finishing salt.

Salt is salt (NaCl). I don't like sea salt because over decades, nuclear waste, including reactors and bombs, microplastics from India, polyfluorinated alkyl substances, and a whole lot of other crap have been dumped into the sea. If you want pure salt, use rock salt. I also don't like kosher salt because it reminds me of Jews. Back then, there were people who developed goiters because they didn't consume enough iodine, mostly inland and not on the coasts. Then iodized salt was introduced. The iodine deficiency disappeared. But now all these colored Himalayan "Jewish" salts are coming. Ten times the price, no iodine, and the iodine deficiency is returning. That's a fact. Salt also has no effect on blood pressure; otherwise, the Chinese would all have exploded by now. MSG is a different topic, and I think you can partially replace salt with it.

the big saline bags are isotonic dumbo, unlike your salt doused goislop

The idea of salt vs BP is ratio of salt to water in your blood's base saline. If your salt ratio goes too high, your blood draws in water from tissues to equalize the ratio, increasing the volume of blood. As you get older, or because of genetics or cholesterol build up, your blood vessels/heart loose the ability to expand/pump as readily to accomodate the short-term increase in volume and so pressure goes up until your body filters out the excess volume and releases or expels it. The body's ability to restore that balance effectively also deteriorates with age/genetics.

So the salt's not the cause of HBP--it's the vessels' lack of ability to expand, but salt causes your BP to go up for a short while, just like caffeine; and if you're older/weaker, this short-term increase of BP is an issue.

That's been the salt tale all along, true or otherwise.

The saline they give you in hopsital is set to the proper ratio and controlled drip to maintain proper hydration, and wouldn't be an issue. Besides, if your BP goes up in hospitial, they'll just give you blood thinners to reduce it, maybe tranqulizers. They like administering drugs.
>>
>>21757154
Salt is perfectly fine as long as you're also hydrating yourself properly. The average person doesn't hydrate properly, so for them salt only further exacerbates their associated problems.
That's really it.
>>
>>21757229
What does that mean?
>>
>>21757352
Your salt intake and water intake should be balanced with each other
>>
>>21757493
If yours is #1, but you urinate frequently, say evey 2 hours, is that a problem?
>>
>>21757493
This is fucking terrible advice
you don't want to drink MULTIPLE glasses of water at once
You want to drink water constantly, at a measured rate. Drinking a bunch and then nothing for a while leads to prostate issues.
Extremely stupid fucking chart
Also, urea concentration can be higher or lower depending on the age, gender and diet of people, it is NOT a be-all-end-all chart. Temporary changes can happen too.
>>
>>21757566
Literally any questions about urination should be brought up with a doctor. There are too many factors at play - if you're worried, get a Urinalysis.
>>
>>21757619
It depends if you're dehydrated the more you drink at once the faster and more will absorb
Assuming you have enough salt in your system
t.I work in Vegas pretty often and the first thing I do is go to Panda Express and drown everything in soy sauce, seriously, everyone do this
Or some other chinky vittles joint, what's important is that you pre-load on soy sauce specifically, it just works
I told my friends about this, they've all tried it, they all do this now, including my BIL who's a professional sports-better, so he's there at least once a month or so
>>
>>21757175
>and the iodine deficiency is returning.
That was one of the things I was worried about when switching to these different "pure" mineral salts. I'm going to have to get some kind of Logol's solution to take daily, I think.
>>
Fleur de sel is the king of salt but you poor fags wouldn’t know anything about that.
>>

I do, but that's literally because of what the doc prescribed

>>

>the iodine deficiency is returning. That's a fact

>>
>>21755903
I dont care if the colors or whatever are just because of other minerals 'contaminating' the salt. Pink himalayan salt literally tastes better as a salt. So I will used regular iodized salt for most things, water boiling, etc. But if its the final touches of salting some cooked chicken from 3 feet in the air or whatever, you better believe i am reaching for that himilayan pink salt.
>>
>>21757154
Saline solution matches what the body wants for salt to water ratio. When you drink water without electrolytes (salt) you are pulling electrolytes out of you. When you eat salt you are putting them in. You must stay in balance.

It is much easier to keep that balance by drinking tea or gatoraid for instance, and is much better to hydrate with if you are hungover.

Its pretty easy to ignore it when you are young and healthy but wait till you hit your 30s or mid 30s and you will appreciate tea way more.

>>21757658
I dont understand you. You preload on soysauce to then drink tons of water?
>>
>>21757619
>Drinking a bunch and then nothing for a while leads to prostate issues.
So this only affects men?
>>
>>21759224
Essentially, yes.
>>
>>21758656
>I dont understand you. You preload on soysauce to then drink tons of water?
Yep
Vegas dehydrates you like crazy no matter how much water you drink, without salt it just passes through you
It's not perfect but it helps because you can get water everywhere but you have to go to the CVS or Walmart for sports drinks and that's kind of a pain when you're there for work

Tamari soy sauce is far superior to other formulations.
>>
>>21757493
Nope. Too much salt and your body will retain too much water in places you don't want it, like your skin (edema).
