I have always imagined it tasting similar to cajun seasoning.
>>21757798It literally just tastes like salt. Sometimes I use it in soup to add salt and give it color.
>>21757798Buy some Utz old bay chips online if you don't wanna get a can and have to commit to it. That said, a thing of old bay is like 4 bucks so there's nothing really stopping you from trying it out.
>>21757810So basically the Lawry's of the northeast coast?
Celery seed is the main flavor I think.
tastes like lawry's, it's nowhere near as flavorful as proper cajun seasoning
>>21757798It's celery salt with a bunch of stuff.
>>21757827Old Bay is specifically a Maryland thing but we do get Lawry's too. I haven't had Lawry's in 7 or so years so I can't compare the two
>>21757798>>21757836Basically celery salt with a little cayenne.
>>21757836If you took out the celery salt, you would have pretty much the correct seasoning for Cincinnati style chili. Which makes me wonder if Old Bay was created by Greek immigrants too.
>>21757836why is the salt and celery combined but not the other ingredients
>>21757798>What does Old Bay taste like?celery salt
>>21757897>>21757857>>21757829Does celery salt have a taste or does it just taste like salt? I only detect the saltiness in Old Bay
>>21757904>Does celery salt have a tastejust tastes similar to celery desu, i know that sounds like a dumb reply but its pretty distinct though not very powerful.
>>21757810Lol no it doesn't. Your old bay is expired or your taste buds suck
>>21757836Fascinating. The top 5 ingredients are what I use for many of my spices. Paprika, black pepper, mustard, cayenne, and then on occasion I add the celery salt. This goes crazy and adds small amounts of all that other stuff.
>>21757810>literallyHave you EVER used that word correctly, zoomer? Are you even aware of its true definition? It's a 5 times a year word at most. I bet you say it out loud over 5 times a day.
>>21758586its a bit weird to add nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, cardamon in savory foods since in my parts those are common for sweet baked foods
>>21757827Its just a salt mixture thats particularly known for seafood
>>21757798if only you could buy some and try it...
>>21757798Is OBay a black people shit? Like Lawry's?
