I started using "fasting salts" to bring my electrolytes up after sweating my ass off in the summer. Seems to have a good mix of things. A big bag goes a long way and you're not chugging down colors and either sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Plain, filtered water just leads to you pissing out electrolytes and minerals, there's zero benefit. Being a raw meat carnitard would be more hydrating than this.

In WWII they used to give the men in the Pacific salt tablets because they would sweat their asses off so much.

The extra sodium does help a bit with physical activity and sweating. It not being carbonated probably makes it easier to drink enough too. It has a bit less sugar than soda too which will probably let you drink more to stay fully hydrated without getting sick from all the sugar.

It's still a highly processed beverage so I wouldn't consider it "healthy" but it's a better choice for what it says. If you wanted something better than something like lemonade or diluted fruit juice with a bit of sodium added would be the next step up.

How much do you sweat? If you do intense endurance or team sports where you lose a lot of water and can't take a break whenever, sports drinks (or speedy hydration alternatives, fpbp) are likely a good idea. But it's not like you'll die if you drink water instead, you'll have to pace yourself either way.
But if you work out casually, aren't sweating for over an hour and the sun isn't burning you alive, a sports drink won't benefit you much and you'll just end up with a surplus of sugar. For casual workouts, you're better off with (mineral) water.
Some coffee may improve performance, but it's likely not the best for hydration.

Best answer ITT. It really depends on your activity level, but yes, it actually does keep you going longer than water. Gatorade specifically was developed by a University of Florida research team in order to legally enhance the performance of their football team, the Gators. They handily won the championship that year. But if you're not pushing yourself very hard, plain water will be fine, but unless you have weight issues or hypertension drinking sports drinks won't cause any problems either.
