Why most people eat orange sweet potatoes?

What is your favorite sweet potato?
>>
>>21772536
i don't like sweet potatoes because i'm not female.
>>
>>21772538
Very manly anon
>>
I only like purple ones.
The orange ones are too sweet for me, I don't remember what Okinawan ones are like and I'm not sure I've ever had normal Nipple Knees sweet potatoes.
>>21772538
Not yet, anyway.
>>
>>21772538
>being a picky eater is manly
>>
>>21772536
>"sweet potato... FRIES??!?!.... YES PWEASE!"
>>
>>21772548
>having no distinction is manly
i've won this debate over 2,000 years ago.
>>
>>21772536
I want to try those nip ones someday.
>>
>>21772536
>AI-generated garbage

This thread will hit page 11.
>>
I've never seen purple or japanese sweet potatoes sold anywhere
It's only ever been orange
>>
Japanese sweet potatoes are so good. Better then orange
>>
>>21772568
I googled for a chart and it was the 1st one there, how can you tell it's ai?
>>
>>21772570
Do you, like, not go to grocery stores or something? Purple sweet potatoes are everywhere now. 20 years ago? Yeah, Asian supermarkets only but as of 5-10 years back, everyone's got'em. I buy them for Thanksgiving instead of orange ones and I get them at fucking Lidl lmao
>>21772562
Sweet potato fries are the most disgusting shit I've ever gotten from a burger joint. Bitch I was dating at the time ordered them "for the table" and got pissed at me when I got regular ass fries for myself because I didn't think sweet potato fries were good. I asked if anyone else wanted any (double date) or if I should get a second order of normal table fries for everyone but nobody wanted any so I just got the solo order for myself and this somehow made me an asshole.
>>
>>21772563
is that you jesus

>>21772585
"sweet potatoes #1" and "local sweet potatoes" make no sense. the white flesh one is also yellow.
>>
What do okinawan ones taste like?
>>
I read Japanese sweet potatoes not as sweet as orange ones. But to me the sweetness level is the same, but a different flavor
>>
>>21772536
>white flesh
>it's yellow
>>
>>21772799
It's white when raw lol
>>
What sweet pot dishes do you guys like?
>>
>>21772547
There's a difference between yams and sweet potatoes.
I prefer yams coz I don't like sweet things.
Also most Americans (I am super American, super white) don't know how to cook them without adding a bunch of brown sugar.

Peak yam or sweet potato is: cook in oven with skin on until sugar looks like its "bleeding" out of it.
Then butter with sour cream.
>>
>>21772591
You sound like fun.
Sweet potato fries are usually > normal ones. Maybe you went to a bad place?
>>
>>21773079
I am super fun, actually, and no. Everyone else raves about that place's sweet potato fries. I just really don't like SPFs, is all.
>>21773075
Yes, I'm well aware and that's exactly how I cook my purple sweet potatoes, but not with sour cream. I've not had a proper yam in ages. I use them in kolak, a dessert soup make with yams, sweet potatoes, palm fruit seeds, jackfruit, cooking bananas and so on in pandan flavoured coconut milk, sweetened with palm sugar. Outside of that and ubi kaya, I don't really eat yam much. Does taro count as a yam?
>>
>>21772566
they're really good. they've got a nuttiness that's quite pleasant. for me, regular orange sweet potatoes need a bit of extra sweetener to cover up the slight earthy flavor, but japanese sweet potatoes are at the right sweetness naturally
>>
>>21772735
It’s been a while since I had the white ones but I recall the taste and texture being similar to boiled chestnuts

>>21772960
I like them roasted or mashed. I did a mash with honey, cinnamon, and cloves for Thanksgiving, was pretty good

What about you?
>>
>>21773924
I like them that way
But roasted, then with salted butter afterwards is what I have often
>>
/ck/ doesn't like sweet potatoes?
>>
i've only tried orange sweet potatoes and the japanese ones. the japanese ones mog
>>
>>21772563
>crying about what other people eat is manly
Toppest kek
>>
>>21774688
I don't at all but you won't see me bitching about it. I just don't eat them. If other people like them or eat them around me, that's fine
>>
I want to know how okinawans taste compared to japanese
>>
The orange fleshed are good but they shine when used to make something sweet.
>>
>>21772536
I live in Brazil and i'm pretty sure we only have the Japanese ones here? At least i've never had another one. They're pretty sweet, you just need a bit of salt for it to be delicious.
>>
>>21772538
having a preference is gay
>>
>>21772735
It's the other way around, Japanese sweet potatoes are sweeter than the orange ones.

I'm making a sweet potato pie
What's the best pre-made pie crust? I don't want to go through the hassle
I generally find baking to be a pain in the ass
My fukkin semolina cake cracked, I took my eyes off it for 5 minutes and it went from soup in the middle to that
>>
>>21775751
How will you prepare them?
>>21775754
I think they are bruleed
>>21775838
I'm making one too probably with jap ones. I'm going to make a crust from candy pecans, butter, and light brown sugar
>>
>>21772538
In my country sweet potato is a manly food associated with heavy manual labor
>>
steamed sweet potatoes >---------> regular 'tatoes french fries
>>
>>21772538
There was an episode of one of the tenchi shows where most of the girls are arguing, then look over to see tenchi and sasami feeding each other sweet potatoes they wrapped in foil and cooked over a fire
made me want to try it. it wasn't good.
sweet potatoes made into potato chips are pretty good
>>

>missing out on a tasty nutrient potato because you're a insecure faggot

>>
>>21772536
Hispanics have a sweet potato that is white fleshed and red-skinned called boniato. It's one of my favorites to add to the sheet pan with various other veggies or just to make "fries" as they are as starchy as russets. I also add it to stews.
>>
>>21776880
Roasted > any other preparation
>>
Please help me Google isn't much help

I only like my sweet potatoes roasted whole or half

How can I store whole potatoes? I have no cool, dark place for them. I have so many too
Can they be frozen whole, raw? Then can I roast them from the freezer frozen, or thawed?

Do whole potatoes must be par boiled like cut potatoes?

I have close to 40lbs
>>
>>21777073
>Can they be frozen whole, raw? Then can I roast them from the freezer frozen, or thawed?
Yes. That will actually make then extremely sweet. Sweet potatoes are still alive and they convert their starch into a fucktonne of sugar as the temperature drops, especially to freezing. Once toasted from there, they'll be extremely soft and terrifyingly sweet.
>>
>>21777079
So I freeze them whole without cleaning, yes? And raw?

Or freeze them after roasting?
>>
>>21777093
Freeze raw, but I'm not sure if you should wash them first or wash them after. I would guess you wash them after freezing.
>>
>>21777097
Thank you kind anon
One more question
What should I wrap them with to be frozen?
>>
>>21772536
sweet potatoes aren't actually "potatoes"
>>
>>21772591
I quite like sweet potato fries, but unlike regular fries which I could eat just about until bursting, I can only eat about half a proper serving of the sweer tato. I love em, and then I'm done. doesn't matter if I'm full or not.
>>
>>21777106
Nothing. Just freeze completely solid, bake/roast at a low temperature for a long while then blast the heat at the end. All there is to it.
>>
>>21777114
Thank you very much anon
>>
>>21777126
To be clear, long while is, like, 3+ hours. This method takes forever but it's why food cart sweet potatoes are so different compared to what people make at home. If you're from or live in a country where food carts don't sell sweet potatoes, this might be eye opening.
>>
>>21777133
The wait makes it more satisfying to eat
>>
>>21775838
Sucks about the cake top but aside from the split they both look excellent. If you haven’t tried it before I like the stand mixer butter crust method: you just cut the cold butter into thin rectangle pieces, toss them in the flour, let the mixer paddle flatten the butter pieces in the flour, and then add the water

>>21776352
Thinking about just baking them and then eating whole and plain while pretending I’m a peasant and it’s my only hot food of the day
>>
Okinawan sweet potatoes are the sweetest, confirmed
