What's a food that you thought would be nasty but turned out to be delicious? For me it's fischbrötchen. I don't love fish and it's not a photogenic food but it's actually really tasty
>>21772881I like to catch the fish myself and eat it on the shoreline while staring listlessly out into the water. pondering my existence.
the bismark is so nut. For me it's sour cabbage instead of onion
smørrebrød is really good
>>21772881>it's not a photogenic foodfischbrotchen photograph just fine, it's just that the meme image that people know it from are the most basic and unappealing ones. of you look them up and see actual pictures they look a lot better.
>>21772881The idea of sushi to me seemed terrible. My initial thought was "why would I ever want to eat room temperature rice and raw fish?"But it ended up being a lot better than I expected. The Japanese really cooked with that one. But not literally (sometimes). Hah!
Raw oysters, my dad and uncle were having them one time at his house drinking beers and they gave one to 12 year old me thinking I would hate it as a funny joke, I did too but it turns out I fuckin love oysters
>>21772881alternatively, when was the last time you kissed a fat guy? ~350 lb man who waits tables at my job, I just went for it one day
>>21773959idk when I bought it I still thought it looked rough but enjoyed it anyway
For me, it's krabben
>>21773953>smörrebrödit's just a sandwich, no need to be all fancy with the name
>>21774852if every sandwich was just named “sandwich”, things would get REAL ugly REAL quick
Well?
>>21774873>No bismarkGuess Ill settle for the rollmops
>>21774962>No bismark Probably because it mistakenly lists salted herring (matjes) twice.
>>21772881>What's a food that you thought would be nasty but turned out to be delicious?none if I think it's going to be nasty it is.
I used to buy rollmops until I had a roll with some weird jelly-egg like stuff on the skin, immediately tossed it and never had another.
>>21772881blue cheese
>>21772881>kimchi made myself, shrimp paste stank horribly while making - was afraid to try, but it turned out tasty and not stinky after fermentation >egg drop soup looked somewhat like snot, but it's quite nice
This. It's so good.
>>21774873never seen that one beforefor me, it's rollmops
>>21775986Such an underrated treat.
>>21775986Fish headcheese?
>>21772881>but it's actually really tastyI do not believe you.>>21775209>>egg drop soup>looked somewhat like snot, but it's quite niceYears ago, maybe from the Frugal Gourmet (?), I learned the difference between purchased chicken broth and making it the chinese way. When I pressure cook chicken for "chinese" style stock, I will have ginger and leeks, not the american style celery, parsley, carrot and bay/sage flavor profile. It's worth it to make your own won ton, hot n sour, and egg drop soups to start with the right flavors.I grew up not liking seafood, even the smell of it cooking, too much fear putting my hands in the bait bucket and getting poked by live shrimp, or maybe just watching fish getting gutted. But, I do realize it's mental, LOL, and delicious fish is fine; halibut, snow crab, stuffed or fried clams, moules frite, blackened mahi, but I still have the hurdle of mental trauma before that first bite. Mind games.
