Not even that unusual...but New Haven apizza all have the option of mashed potatoes. (Clams are also traditional). Last visit, at Bar pizza, I had a delicious bacon and mashed pizza. It really is a great coal fired crust, not matter what toppings you pick.

In Iowa it's common to see pizza with canned squid. I don't know how the tradition got started, since Iowans aren't exactly a seafaring people, but every Iowa college town has at least 10 pizzerias offering squid pie. They use the squid canned with ink, and it runs black down your chin as your eating it. That's how the Iowa State football team got their nickname, the Brave Blackchins. My local bar went nuts for a bit when their wine sales took off. They had all kinds of funky "flatbreads" of the week - just free-form tiny pizzas.
I tried the PLANG because of the name: peach-leek-anise-nduja-gorgonzola. It was great. Weird, but great. The bit of crunch from the anise bulb and the sweetness of the garlicky baltic porter reduction/syrup nonsense on top really tied the room together.

all over the place, even shitty tourist trap pizza places in times square. it was practically obligatory like the one sad looking white pizza with broccoli. it didn't look exactly like that pic but that's the basic idea, crust on bottom, crust on top, and cheese, sauce and toppings in between. iirc sometimes the top crust had a bit of a shallow cross hatching pattern cut into it. maybe it died out after I left in 2010? I don't think it was ever that popular because it's a lot of food for one slice of pizza but that didn't stop places from selling it.

Killed by California immigration, which led to an increased demand for chicken pies.
Now the spot that used to be taken by stuffed pizzas are occupied by Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Bacon Ranch and/or BBQ Chicken pies, even at the older places.
Will probably be in the old Italian Brooklyn area some time in the next few days cause I'm basically a child and want to look at Christmas Lights, and if they're anywhere they'll be there
