Why isn't chicken-fried steak bigger outside the South?
>>
Because we prefer not having a heart failure.
>>
>>21777870
Because if I wanted fried meat, I have better options like korean fried chicken or Japanese katsu which also come with far better side dishes.
>>

You know, that's a good point. Sausage gravy should be a common dipping sauce for tendies, yet somehow it isn't.
>>

who's been lying to you?
every diner in america offers this as well as every truck stop.

it is at whataburger.

Do Germans ever make steak schnitzel? I know pork and veal are common.
>>
>>21777954
they did it at dairy queen at some point
>>
>>21777922
Schnitzel isn't special. A lot of cultures invented breaded and fried meat cutlets on their own.
>>
>>21777883
You sound like a massive faggot. This is the most red-dit post I have seen in a long time.

Imagine being such a hipster that you eat actual garbage. You can just tell this guy is an anime watching virgin.

You're telling me a chicken fried that steak?
>>
>>21777870
Sausage gravy really isn't big outside the south. Mashing the fuck out of substandard beef with a mallet is usually more of a move for stewing and braising in the rest of the world, where good steak when it's mashed with anything is usually served raw or very lightly seared. The rest of us usually save the breaded "cutlet" treatment for white meat.
tl;dr: we've got similar enough stuff. It's good, but it doesn't fill any voids.

The owners of brown hands usually have better sauces on hand(s).

first time i tried it was in the psych ward. pretty alright, but not my thing

chicken fried steak isn't the same thing as country fried steak though, and nobody with a lick of sense would confuse the two.
>>
>>21778501

>>
>>21778503
Chicken fried steak is double breaded and topped with a white sausage gravy. Country fried steak is single breaded and topped with a simple brown gravy.
>>
>>21778511
Wrong.
>>
>>21777870
Pretty much every diner sells it so I dunno how much bigger you expect it to be.
>>
>>21778522
It was also a frequent item on school lunch menus even up in washington state. Up here it came with mashed potatoes and chicken gravy. Probably the best menu tied with turkey and gravy with mashed potatoes and stuffing.
>>
>>21777870
fuck if I know, it's goddamn delicious.
>>
>>21778511
Hmm. Never had "true" country fried steak, but I can already tell chicken fried steak is superior.

why is it covered in cat vomit?
>>
>>21777870
it was, but then sysco ruined it, people stopped ordering it and it fell of the menu. it still done right in the south, mostly.
>>
>>21777870
It's eaten in the midwest at least in southern Indiana. Nearly every diner I've been to has it on the menu.

>>21777883
It's breaded, tenderized beef with sausage gravy for a few dollars. I'm not sure why you think you're above eating a simple, delicious meal for cheap.
>>
>>21777870
Because it is bottom-feeder "food".
That is why.

Beef schnitzel or wiener-schnitzel is popular all over the developed world.
Not so much in the 3rd world though, like America.

>Not so much in the 3rd world though, like America.

>Chicken-fried steak, also called country-fried steak, is nearly identical to schnitzel.
Nearly every diner in the midwest and south has it on the menu. The midwest and south is most of America's landmass.

There is no robust data suggesting saturated fat causes atherosclerosis:

>Thus, from 1961 on, the AHA recommended that all men (and subsequently women) decrease their consumption of saturated fat, replacing these fats whenever possible with polyunsaturated vegetable oils, as the most promising measure of protection against heart disease.
>The 1961 American Heart Association advice to limit saturated fat is arguably the single-most influential nutrition policy ever published, as it came to be adopted first by the U.S. government, as official policy for all Americans, in 1980, and then by governments around the world as well as the World Health Organization. It is worth noting that the AHA had a significant conflict of interest, since in 1948, it had received $1.7 million, or about $20 million in today's dollars, from Procter & Gamble (P&G), the makers of Crisco oil. This donation was transformative for the AHA, propelling what was a small group into a national organization.

the idea of chicken fried steak is better than the reality
biggest let down i've ever had
>>

What was you expecting? Is this some kind of exotic dish where you live? To me, it's like being disappointed in a salisbury steak, chicken tendies, or chicken pot pie. It's not anything fancy or special. It's a common comfort food where I live but it's not something I'd consider amazing.
>>
>>21778181

THIS

Americans like to think they invented everything, whereas it's a common item and just renamed.
They do this all the time.

a delicious steak with crispy fried outer layer and a side of gravy
ends up being a cheap cut of chewy meat poorly fried being slowly made mushy cause of the pool of tasteless booger gravy making it too wet
also it being on the breakfast menu is insane, i ended up sharing it with my friend and still we were unable to finish the whole plate

My brotha. I liked making a little sandwich with the roll, a piece of CFS, and some gravy
