Niche food. Overpriced.
>>
>>21778732
my parents would make them by boiling them for hours (we are white) they were poor people food.

tasted fine with ketchup, but I haven't had them since I was maybe 8 or 9.
>>
>>21778761
>(we are white)
spiritually you're not
>>
>>21778766
no we are. oxtails was a common thing at butcher shops in the 70's. now people act like they are caviar. I see them all the time but have no interest in eating poors food.
>>
>>21778776
go to bed gramps
>>
Pretend flyovers... why are they even a thing?
Oxtail is good, just like tongue
>>
>>21778732

>>

if you're african yeah
>>

>never had them but i've heard they are good eating
They are one of these cuts that need long and slow cooking, they are pretty beefy actually.
Oxtail soup is still very popular here in Britain but real Oxtails not so much. Nobody wants wants to spend ages cooking them anymore.
>>
>>21778732
I haven't eaten it in years since it hit meme status and hit a price point that defeated the entire point of the cut.
>>
>>21778732
high in collagen so tossing one or two into the pot if you're making a stew is a primo move for bumping up the broth
not really a fan of it being the focal point of a dish, however
>>
>>21778732
I never see this "Ox" for sale in the USA.

hahaha us white people am I right? we're so lame and our food is so bland!
>>
>>21778732
cheap shite presented to be a delicacy.
>>
This board is full of people who are addicted to fast food slop and can't imagine eating anything beyond what is served to them by corporations. Ox-tail is delicious. But most people here probably think it's yucky because it reminds them of an actual animal and not a factory-made patty.
>>
>>21778732
Overrated, cow foot and tripe is better
>>
>>21778766
Anon, white people used to survive off of cheap cuts during famines and harsh times... LIKE EVERY RACIAL GROUP SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME YOU SPIRITUALLY HOMOSEXUAL NIGGER FROM A CRACK SHACK IN BALTIMORE
>>
white people eat the most nasty shit
>>
>>21778732
I would've loved to try them if only they hadn't become price-gouged to a comical extent
>>
All the more reason to buy the whole cow. You get a great deal on steaks, roasts, hamburger, and the ends and organs.
Just get a couple big freezers and you're set.
>>
>>21779432
farmbro, where is 90% of the population buying a whole cow?
>>
Makes a lovely stew or curry. Love to make a broth with it. Add some white radish. Very fine food.
>>
>>21779425
Oxtail is very popular with black people
>>
>>21779446
Not at the supermarket. Don't pretend that the possibility is off the table for this convenient number of 90%.
Anyone in the USA can get a cow, no problem. Or get a "side of beef", which is half a cow.
I live in a big city, not a farm. I buy cows because I eat beef daily.
>>
>>21779452
When and where was that? We're in the 21st century now. Don't use the word "is" when it's not appropriate.
>>

Good food that can only be enjoyed by humans with a soul.

it's basically the same as short rib.
another thing tv chefs ruined, just like cheap pork loin.

Woah, look at all the man-lets/cook-lets come out of the woodwork here.
Ox-tail is one of them foods that kept people fed for many, many years, before America and fast food.
Just because it doesn't come via a drive-thru or Uber-Eats, doesn't mean it isn't food.

usually too expensive, but almost always great in just about any (stewed or braised) preparation when they're not raking us over the coals for it

Most flavorful part of the cow.

the one guy is right thought it's niche food and it's overpriced now because it got memed by soccer moms which has made it even more niche since it's no longer priced in accord of its value. People buy it now to post pictures of it on Instagram. it's a veblin food.
>>
>>21778732
First worlders eat the good parts of the animal and leave weird shit like tails and bones and guts to third worlders.
Not interested.

I bet you are American ?
It would be good if /ck/ had flags and then we could ignore your comments on food.

It's nothing to do with white soccer moms, though. It's an indemand ethnic food, that is no longer priced like the scrap meat/pieces and parts original reason it became part of named dishes in the 3rd world cuisine. IIt is probably #2 most famous Jamaican national dish, a diaspora that lives everywhere else now enough to make it premium priced. Typical americans don't like to see offal meat, unless at an ethnic Jjmican-Chinese arket, but it's always available by asking. Jamaicans have a huge Chinese population, so the recipes are kind of fusion to both groups in Jamaica. You'll see soy sauce as part of the recipes.
>>

>It's an indemand ethnic food
I stopped reading there.
Why do you Americans think that everything is ethnic food, just because it was not 'invented by America'?

Do you realise that people have been eating thing long before your 'country' was even invented?

black lady made me some for my birthday
i'm a fan
>>
>>21778732
I heard it's delicious and also enjoyed in some parts of the Caribbean. I never tried it though. I heard it's very gelatinous. It sounded gross back when I was offered, but id try it now if I could.

Jamaican oxtails are so good. With the rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains, it's one of the best plates of food I've had.
>>
>>21782375
I hears. I was offered an oxtail stew that is poured over rice. Maybe it's the same? Idk but it sounds good now. Theres food i used to think was gross when I was younger, but I have a broader range of things I can enjoy now as an adult. So I'm curious about ox tail. It's unfortunate that it's so expensive now.
>>
>>21782367
It's got a lot of cartilage, but when you stew or braise it, all that melts into the sauce, so you get very tender meat with a rich, thick gravy. Same principle behind curried goat, porkolt, or chuck/shank beef stew.
