Pinot Noir is good. I'm drinking some right now and no joke, over the past hour it's opened up to become one of the more enjoyable wines I've had in several months, not counting several wines over T-day. It's just that, if we're being honest, just about every individual thing PN does well, something else does better:

-Cherries + assorted dark berries - lagrein does it better
-Strawberry + raspberry - trollinger is better
-Mushrooms/forest floor - morgon (if you're actually the 1 in 10 who is actually into that and not the 9 in 10 who is just feigning an "adult palate" in the hopes it will get you laid)
-Shampain - BDB shampy made entirely of a certain grape that starts with "C" is objectively a better wine, I'd spell out the grape but the red supremacists are watching
-Vanilla coke flavors - vanilla coke will do fine at 1/1000th the price

If you're giving me free pinot noir I'll obviously drink it even if it's from california, and if it's good pinot like from the PNW or europe I'll be unironically happy about it but I just wonder how it is we collectively decided that pinot noir was on the same level as, say, ries-

What's Quest for Fire got to do with wine?

Probably not a whole lot but there's a 99% chance this thread is getting baleeted and I'm copping a 3 day ban for making a thread that isn't about fast food so I might as well make it fun

If you like it, you have great taste.

Me and my wife.

Wouldn't your random review be better suited to picking some kind of 98 or better rated bottle and discussing that opinion, rather than singling out a grape varietal? All of us have already seen Sideways, so this isn't an original idea to poopoo the pinot grape.

I haven't seen it, but my impression was that the guy was bashing merlot not pinot noir, otherwise why did the market get flooded with shitty pinot noir and all the merlot disappeared?

bidding on two pinot noir right now, one from switzerland and another from ontario. wanted the japanese one but it's currently bidding over $400
