Is anyone here old enough to remember when people would have a party and lots of people would eat together and chat about stuff face to face?

i have an old item used to cook food for large groups but I guess its obsolete now because no one does this anymore.
What do you guys remember about?
I also remember when you could just pull any image off of google and you could start a thread with it instead of always upload failed

Growing up in Miami, parties always included a stop at the local Cuban bakery, for a very good cake, which you paid for by the # of slices. Cakes always had delicious meringue-ish marshmallow frosting (called boiled icing), and a egg custard and tropical fruit gel between the layers. So, if you had a cake for 20 people, you'd also get 20 mini pastries of guava, cheese and meat fillings (60), and 20 finger sandwiches (bocaditos) of ham-pimento salad fillings, too. The bread featured saffron in the soft dough and was so good leftover cold from the fridge at midnight to soak up your drinks.

My favorite party food was always a big pumpernickle round loaf with cubes of bread to dip in artichoke spinach dip, or else devils on horseback. I am getting so old that I never ever see these items anymore at a party.

I have honestly never heard of any of this. I am in the US but Miami sounds like another planet

New Mexico used to have Goat Roasts every fall. I never hear about these anymore

the mods here have been pretty shitty for nearly ten years.
Somehow P3TA got some vegan activists to become jannies when this place had more cultural influence than it does today. It was really pretty shitty. If you challenged any vegan crap, they would not ban you directly for that thing but ban you for something unrelated in another thread. They got away with this for years
