Why are folx so obsessed with eating collagen-heavy foods to improve their skin? Here's what happens when you eat food.
>mechanically digested in the mouth into smaller pieces
>mechanically digested in stomach and chemically digested as well into smaller molecular components
>chemically digested in small intestine into even smaller components like small peptides and amino acids
>the small components are finally absorbed in the small intestine
Collagen-heavy foods are broken down into peptides and amino acids, which can eventually be used by your body to make proteins (one of which could be collagen). However, if you eat something else, so long as it gives you the same amino acids that collagen uses, your body can still make collagen out of it. It doesn't literally have to be collagen from a chicken.

The body doesn't break everything down all the way. Why would it? Even if it did, eating collagen lets you absorb all the things your body needs to make collagen in one go, at the perfect ratio.

Ok. True. But proteins that do not get broken down do not get absorbed and actually cause problems in the intestines. You literally don't absorb peptides longer than four amino acids
