hello /ck/i am dating a girl and this is our first christmas together. i want to get her parents gifts. her dad is a chef and used to be the owner of an americana restaraunt and a cocktail bar, i want to get him a meaningful gift that isn't some dingy williams sonoma mixologist set or a baking set or whatever else retards get people who like cooking.thus far my ideas have been a shun damascus knife and a cheese wheel but other than that my ideas are running dry and i don't have a ton of time. any ideas would be appreciated

I have to unfortunately agree with the other anons that trying to get him cooking/bartending items is not the best idea.. You should ask your gf desu. There's such a wide variety of specialties and interests, you could really miss the mark. Since he ran an Americana restaurant/bar, would he really care about a Damascus knife? Does he already have a favorite knife that would be hard to switch away from..? I'd appreciate a gift like that because they're pretty but I'd probably display it and keep using my German workhorse I've used for 10yrs. I've personally appreciated every cook book I've received, and my family will gift me fancier ingredients. You mentioned a cheese wheel, but cheeses vary greatly too and do you know if he actually appreciates cheese to that level?Find out what he really likes to cook or drink and that'll help desu senpai

At worst ask your gf what type of alcohol he likes and get him a nice bottle of that. But the best gift you can give them is seeing their daughter happy and taken care of.
