why are oils like canola oil bad when they dont have much omega 6 stuff and have a good chunk of omega 3 stuff?does less = better in this case because you will always need way more omega 3s aka youd still need to eat more of them even though the ratio is better? (even then, itd still be better than avacado oil i think which is glorified for not being a seed oil)what gives?
>>21782054They aren't if they're cold pressed. The problem is all the seed oils are refined. Refined = badThis includes refined olive oil.If you're in a store and the oil is yellow-orange like and/or in a see-through container, turn 360° and walk away.
>>21782059>op asks question about omega ratios>some schizo goes off on a completely unrelated tangentclockwork
Mono saturated fats are the best type of fat. That's why olive oil is king.If you have a healthy diet, you'll have a natural healthy omega 3:6 ratio and seed oils will only fuck it up.Lard & tallow are great too, at least if you can get your hands on grass-fed as those contain a much better saturated fatty acids profile; something grain-fed, palm, coconut oil and butter do not.
>>21782054>itd still be better than avacado oilAvocado oil is pretty similar to olive oil composition, when you discuss the ratios of types of fats and heart-healthy benefits. avocado wins for smoke point being higher than it's most similar oil, which is olive oil.Canola oil is cheaper than avocado and olive oil both, therefore common. It's probably going to be the one you bake in, and not use for your deep fryer. Notice that I'm not banning seed oils from my diet like a dumbass, but the eat this not that mentality has me using olive oil and avocado oils for sauteeing, baking and shallow frying.
>>21782067> Not having the iq to interpret the reply correctly and just make assumptionsclockwork> why are oils like canola oil bad when [..]They wouldn't be but they're refined which makes them bad making the omega ratio's irrelevant. Totally solid answer to OP's question.
>>21782054Omega 6 isn't inherently bad. It's only an issue if you're overconsuming in general and not getting enough omega 3.The omega 3 in most plants also isn't very bioavailable. We use EPA and DHA best, but most plants have ALA which we don't convert very well. It's still good for you though. >>21782059Mostly this. Most oils are refined and not the best quality. But, I don't think you should really be eating a lot of refined oil anyway so small amounts should be fine even if it's not the best.
>>21782054Cartman?
>>21782054Canola oil is not inherently bad for you. What is bad is not maintaining a good ratio of Omega 3s to Omega 6s.Just don't eat deep fried food more than once a week and eat fatty fish once a day/take a good quality fish oil supplement.Somebody else ITT has pointed this out, but seed Omega 3s are ALA which are not bioavailable to humans (I think it's something like 5 - 10% of consumption is converted into a form that can be absorbed by us). So don't do what a lot of people do and throw some chia seeds into morning yogurt and call it a day. Chia seeds are still good for you and a great way to supplement fiber intake, but it's not giving you near the amount of Omega 3s that it looks like it does if you throw them into a food tracking app.

>>21782059but avacado oil is usually not cold pressed too, all my olive oil is, we've got good olive oil>>21782068we have a bunch of farmer's markets around and there's always someone selling tallow from (obviously) grass fed cowsim pretty sure a lot of that stuff is really expensive unfortunately.. im not rich>>21782069is it all the vitamins and stuff in tallow/avacado/olive oil that make people actually want to eat them, along with non terrible omega 3 and 6 contents? and a lot of those nutrients are destroyed by heat/chemical processes in refining, and since cold pressed stuff isn't extracted with either of those, a lot of the nutrient value is preserved?

>>21782157shortening is terrible for you, you shouldn't be eating it. the artificial trans fat caused heart disease worse than anything else and despite them saying it's 0g now it likely still has some in it.
