can anyone in the UK please link me to a decent metal sieve where grains of rice and pieces of carrot do NOT get trapped under the rim?
thank you.

I use a firmer bristle plastic brush (Libman) to scrub this exact problem at my sink. My sink faucet also has a sprayer function to blow off the soap and food, flip it over a couple times while rinsing. That's all you need.

true, but i've been blasting gunk out of this sieve for years.

at this point i am more than willing to buy a sieve where the rim has a tight seal with the mesh. or it's all one continuous unit: maybe i should take the colanderpill.

nah, things can still get lodged in there, especially if you ever strain anything that has some fat in it. i've had this issue even when rinsing it right away. i'm not sure why it's such a common issue.

who said anything about cooked rice? it's common to rinse dry rice in one of these to get off the extra starch or added vitamins for taste and texture reasons

I’m not in the UK but try looking up rice strainers, I think the tend to be bowls with holes small enough to keep rice out.

Also I hate the mesh strainers with the rim over the mesh, they need to make one with the mesh over the rim

i wash rice in the pot I cook it, i just tip the pot holding the rice with my hand keeping a thin slit under so water can flow out

hate to say it but get a plastic rimmed sieve. they have no gaps and dont warp like metal ones.

if your metal one has a gap it means it's just too old and the rim has warped from usage. I had this issue and replaced mine with another cheap one from Walmart (the exact same one) with no gaps. in a years time it will probably have gaps again.

I think the alternative would be to buy an expensive restaurant grade one or chinois
