Any Russians or Slavs here? I’ve been wanting to try cold smoked mackerel and Borscht. I am looking at buying a few things online. Anything else you guys would recommend me trying?
I'm Slavic and some traditional dishes in my native country's cuisine are schnitzel and fried chicken, not borscht or smoked mackerel.
>>21785500>cold smoked mackereldark meat oily fishAs a Floridian who fishes, I will tell you that no one here will eat this fish, but would toss it back. You won't be able to give it away if you tried. It's not delicious, even smoked, but you may still find it on sushi bars, because japanese have some kind of dominion over the world's odd varied species mentality.
>>21785500Just don’t you stupid idiot. It’s literal poverty food
>>21785540borscht is a lot like regular beef stew, only purple
>>21785500>Any Russians or Slavs here?yes. just look at the catalog on any board. the troll threads are all russians.

>>21785500>fags dont like salty stinky greasy spikey fish that smell stains your hands for dayscold smoked mackerel is the fucking best, you just have to be drunk to eat it and probably wont want to eat it again for a while afterfor shit you can odrer on that site, i really wouldnt bother. shelf stable goods are not good from any country, especially not poverty coded ones. russians eat macaroni, doshirak and energy drinks. if you want good slav food, buy polish or croatian
>>21785507So you're Polish, Czech or Slovak

>>21785882made this myself under my mom's direction for the first time last month. thought it turned out perfect, but after I took my portion home, she told me she added extra herring on her portion. surprisingly easy to make
>>21785500I don't know if it's really a thing, but I tired my hand at Russian soup. Not sure if there is a name for it, but it's basically a chicken noodle, but with potatoes as well. It was quite good. Ruski anons, is this real or did I get scammed by some woman's food blog.
>>21786014That's a generic dish you can find anywhere so what makes that recipe Russian?
>>21785500
>>21786022I have no idea. I mean we normally don't add noodle with potato. It's usually one or another.
>>21786014no such thing as noodle soups in russian cuisine

>>21785510Mackerel is extremely tasty and healthy. No wonder Americans would toss it.

>>21785500I went here once, I loved the Russian food.
>>21785666>you just have to be drunk to eat it and probably wont want to eat it again for a while afterSame thing with sauerkraut.
>>21786656Next time, get a box of buckwheat or barley or bulgar wheat, some sort of grain. No idea why you can't find regular grains in regular grocery stores in the US.
>>21786653solyanka is like borscht or gumbo, every motherfuker has a 'right' way of making it. i grew up with and prefer a brothy one with lemon, but some people make it more like stew. people also have preferences about what kind of broth or meat you use. you can get away with making it however as long as you have olives or salted cucumber, onion, carrot and meat. soups easy to make though man just find a recipe that sounds good and try it, or start with something basic and approachable and go from there.
>>21785620This looks good but can’t buy online unfortunately >>21786919God I wish there was a Russian or Ukrainian restaurant near me
