i put so much effort, time, and thought into making cakes and other baked goods for my family and nobody appreciates or cares about my efforts. recently ive made a vanilla layer cake with orange flavored swiss meringue buttercream, an almond pound cake, and a dobos torte. barely anyone tried any of it and the ones who did said that all three cakes were "just okay" or that they didnt like them. one person even referred to the cakes as "weird stuff you like to make".... today ive made a boxed yellow cake with great value chocolate frosting and everyone basically busts a nut over it saying its amazing... should i just fucking kill myself!?

could be worse, at least they actually truly enjoyed that boxed yellow cake and thought you had made it from scratch, it was an honest reaction...in my case i spent 2 whole days making petit fours for my bday and name day , incredibly complex mini tarts with mascarpone namelaka and homemade praline and honest to god, even though i find most of what i cook bad to mediocre, these ones were indistinguishable and maybe even better than store bought ones. i offered them to aunts uncles cousins and all they had to comment about was the baklava bits which i had just made in order not to waste the leftover dried nuts...."oh you made those baklavas oh thats so wonderful you must have put in a lot of effort" thats how you know they were being condescending and fake praising just like they would a 5 year old who had just made a shitty drawing at school
