So I got regifted a pack of primo smoked sockeye salmon (the good shit super smoked by the local native band) but took a bite before realizing that the person who gave it to me got it on the 10th, several weeks ago.
It's still firm, but a little sour, but I don't know if the sour is from the seasoning used or from bacteria.
I REALLY don't want to throw out 5 pounds of fucking beautiful fish, but I also don't want to get botulism.
Tell me /ck/, I should throw it out, right?
The internet had generally said 2 weeks at most for hot smoked salmon, but if I throw away that much sockeye and find out it was fine I might cry.
Pic isn't the fish in question but it's basically how it looks, not dry-dry it's still wet, been in several layers of freezer bags since the 10th.

Was it previously opened? If not, literally do not worry about it but eat it within the week to be safe.
If it had been opened, I’d personally still eat a chunk of it and see how my stomach feels. It’s probably fine, and you’re more at risk of listeria desu. Less scary imo
If you’re very old, very young, pregnant, or immuno-compromised don’t do that though..

>Was it previously opened?
Presumably, the person who gave it to me probably did, it's not vacuum sealled or anything.
I did already eat a chunk so I guess we'll see.
>If you’re very old, very young, pregnant, or immuno-compromised don’t do that though
I am none of those things.

Not OP but I'm immunocompromised (and semi related, just had brain surgery today, btw!) and I eat rotten and expired shit all the time.

Here's an actual image of mine.
Homemade stuffs always better than store bought.
I fucking love smoked salmon which is why this is so hard for me.

Not infinitely apparently, according to the rest of the internet.

Test your fate, OP.

Devour the fish, and if you die, it was the will of Poseidon that you should die.

if it's dried it would be, but these fillets are moist and fatty. you wouldn't expect a ham to last long either.
