just oysters and shrimp, they look and feel gross in the mouth and I really just want to swallow ASAP, I don't wanna chew or think about it, they're not pleasant to eat.

What’s the threshold for picky eater?
It’s just dark chocolate for me
I’d eat it if you add enough sugar to make it not bitter desu
>>
>>21813239
This. But maybe 1. I love grapefruit but I can't have any. : /
>>21813241
I can understand your preference even if I disagree. I'm not crazy about oysters but there really is a huge variation in quality and taste one batch to the next but idk enough to tell you why or how. I don't usually go for oysters because of my lack of knowledge but I don't avoid them, either.
I mention this because maybe you'd like a different variety of oyster than whichever you've had. No need to go out of your way for them, though. If you happen to be somewhere and your offered an oyster, at least give it another try. What have you got to lose?
>>
3 for me

I seem to be allergic to cabbage and garlic and pork sits for fucking ever in my digestive system.
>>
>>21813251

I think that's called bittersweet chocolate and some people consider it a different thing altogether from dark chocolate.

Blue cheese, crab, oysters, eggplant
>>
>>21813233
Coffee should really be "black coffee", lots of people consider coffee to be a sweetened, milk-heavy beverage with coffee flavoring added.
>>
>>21813233
for me it's 4
cooked fish - can't stand the smell
raw fish is even worse, same with shrimp
never had oysters
love me a can of tuna from time to time , with extra lemon juice or a nice smoked salmon steak
>>
>>21813256
>>21813258
Yeahh there should be some sort of consideration for how prepared it must be before you’ll eat it.
I definitely wouldn’t drink black coffee, wouldn’t even drink it with plain refined sugar or plain milk.
So I’m probably at a 2.
Everything else i would eat with minimal or no preparation.

All for health reasons, not for hating the taste. Coffee, chocolate, and Nutella. These I just politely decline as well as anything overly sweet like soda, candy, pastries - any dessert really. I have never tried oysters, and there are some I don't enjoy, but I'll still eat them.

The chart should have included liver, it's a common picky eater thing. I will eat it if it's what's served, but I'll not be enjoying it, and I may be rushing eating that first so I'll be over with it and can enjoy the potatoes and vegetables by themselves.

Is there anyone who doesn't eat wheat bread other than for medical reasons? I feel like that falls outside of the spirit of the chart.
>>
if you don't like some types of music are you a picky listener? if you don't want to plap fat chicks are you a picky fucker? liking some things and not liking others isn't being picky, it's having preferences. eating everything that's put in front of you like a hog isn't not being picky, it's being indiscriminate.

when I was a kid I was an extremely picky eater, I still don't know why but it was like my brain was telling me not to eat anything except very few foods. I think the kids these days call it ARFID. If I took this test as a kid then I would have 33 points. One day when I was about 18 years old it was like a switch changed in my head and I suddenly wanted to eat more foods. I gained like 20 pounds from all the new foods I was "missing out on" as my brother would say. Right now on that test my score is 4.
Also checked.

>blue cheese

The first 6 are things I genuinely dislike the taste/texture of. Tomato is something I have been conditioned to remove from hamburgers, sandwiches etc because so many places use such shitty low quality tomatoes that are either still green or borderline rotten that I got tired of tomato ruining an otherwise perfect meal.
Also some are situational. I will put a quarter of a jar of peanut butter into a satay and lick the knife clean but I have no interest in peanut butter sandwiches.
Pretty sure I have a mild allergy to cucumber so I didn't include it, but that shit can fuck right off. Pickles are technically cucumber, and I really like the taste of the pickle brine, so I don't order my burger with no pickles but instead remove them.

I give myself 0.1 because I'd really rather not eat oysters, but it's not like I'd skip them if served, or pluck them from my dish. Plus I once got the mother of all food poisoning from them in Cork fucking Ireland that had me feeling like I was going to turn inside out for the better part of the week. (I'm still very, very sorry for the janny at the nearest McD I had to run to once it all hit, I'll skip the gory details). So just thinking about eating oysters makes my guts twist for just a second.
On the other hand, raw onions, now that's the shit I just cannot and will not stand in my food.
What the fuck is this list anyway, how is chicken or apples even sometime you can be picky about.

It's very bad luck to get food poisoning from oysters, or a severe cockup on whoever served them to you. I eat them all the time all the time in many different places and have never had a problem. >>
>>21814476
>Although I got food poisoning from steak tartare in Provence where it's supposed to be their fucking speciality dish
This tracks with maybe not even Cork specifically, but any coastal city in Ireland being all about their freshly caught seafood.
On the other hand, I once had sea urchin/uni in a parking lot in California, purchased live from a dude who just fished them out, cracked open with a spanner from my toolbox, and scooped out with plastic spoons nicked from a cafe nearby. Thinking back it was India-tier unhygienic and a miracle we didn't get sick, but it also ruined uni for me forever because after having it literally fresh off the boat it just never tastes or smells fresh even in a good restaurant.
>>
>>21814465
>never tried oysters
I don't care much for eggplant, but as someone who loves oysters in every form, I have to warn you; you need to pick your first oyster dish carefully. You can have them raw or smoked or fried and it's all about the texture you want in your mouth. Id recommend fried for a beginner, with some kind of savory sauce, it has a nice crunchy mouth feel, but the flavor is kinda hard to describe, you just have to try and decide for yourself.

Gee, I wonder why there's an actual saying about the food safety of oysters! Couldn't be anything to do with reality. These are anecdotes! The Experts say that consuming raw oysters is perfectly safe, so any contradictory evidence has to be an anecdote, which can not be used to draw conclusions.

Fucking retard.

No, not accepting that. You linked a bunch of anecdotes. If you want to say oysters are unsafe, fine, back it up. I'm not even saying they aren't. If you provide actual evidence they aren't, it will trouble me not at all because I'm not making any claim to the contrary. I'm just saying you couldn't reason your way out of a paper bag, is all.

I won't eat things because I can afford not to, but I would eat them if I were ever TRULY hungry. There are just certain textures and odors that put me off. Here's mine from the list:

*cucumber (I love pickles though)
*eggplant

Nutella is way too sweet, but I've got nothing against hazelnuts. There are a few not on the list but I'm embarrassed enough by not liking these 3.

Oysters seems to be a sticking point for some people, but we should strongly distinguish between
>raw vs cooked

A fried oyster from a reputable fishery is quite different than a raw oyster (cold snot) or anything chinky (imagine eating a filter feeder from the land of gutter oil and PCB waste).

I don't know if I've ever even seen them cooked. Cooked shellfish is always clams.
>>
>>21815019
Yes, but you cook food with a risk of salmonella. Oysters are typically eaten raw for some fucked up reason. Oyster eaters like >>21814963 literally have flesh-eating parasites inside their heads where their brains are supposed to be.
>>
>>21813233
Well lets see - I hate blue cheese, I drink black tea not coffee so I get dinged there, oysters just taste bleh to me, asparagus makes your pee stink and don't really taste good, as does b sprouts, I can't even really buy grapefruit nor do I really have a reason since other citrus is better, and fuck eggplant.

So 7 in total.

Technically I am picky about what kind of canned tuna, because there are some shit nasty ones out there, but I found the teriyaki ones to be palatable. Love tuna raw though, tastes so much better.

I don't know what the standard is for dark chocolate, but I've eaten candy labeled that so I'm guessing it counts. I don't remember what threshold it starts to suck, it could be 80, 90 or 100%, but somewhere in there it gets to be too bitter and needs to be used in a recipe that makes it better.
>>
>>21813233
I enjoy everything on here. some more or less than others, but there's nothing here I inherently dislike.

No they don't. Every single fucking menu in existence has this in fine print for legal reasons:

*CONSUMING RAW OR UNDERCOOKED MEATS, POULTRY, SEAFOOD, SHELLFISH, OR EGGS MAY INCREASE YOUR RISK OF FOODBORNE ILLNESS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CERTAIN MEDICAL CONDITIONS.

The experts literally warn your ass at the point of sale that SHIT AIN'T SAFE BRO.

At least my sushi goes through a deep freeze to kill shit. Them oysters don't. Not to mention they contain whatever pollution shit these filter feeders suck up. That is why I keep fish as "rare" in my diet so I don't get mercury poisoning.

No. I’ll eat it but it’s got one of the worst texture and flavor of all the greens. It’s O.K. in soup.

>>21815972
I'd say you're missing out with avocado and crab. lots of great foods involving those two. I think everybody should try blue cheese at least once too just because it's such a unique taste, but it's not for everyone. oysters are worth it if you like other seafood but you're also not necessarily missing out on anything mindblowing if you've eaten seafood in general.
the others (brussels sprouts, cabbage, eggplant) are nothing amazing on their own but good in certain dishes, if you like other vegetables you'll probably like them too and there's no point avoiding them.
nutella is whatever, it's good but it's just sweet and chocolatey. if you've eaten chocolate, you're not missing much. but again, no reason to avoid it.
>>
>>21813251
"picky eater" is a subjective and contextual thing. You can't really know just from adding up points like from a list like that, you just have to ask how many times you've refused meals, said no to a good restaurant just because the genre scared you, or felt like your menu options somewhere were really limited. To me a picky eater is someone who's a notorious pain in the ass to plan social meals around
>>
>>21813233
2, not into mushrooms or oysters. Although from what I understand, mushrooms are extremely varied depending on the species so maybe I should give more types a try.
>>
>>21815972
>blue cheese
Really good on a steak or a burger, although I won't fault you if you dislike it as it's a really weird taste.
>avocado
One of my favorite foods, I eat one practically every day. Makes me feel good healthwise and can be tasty if you add a little salt.
>cabbage
I'm not super experienced with all the traditional soups and stews that use cabbage but in a stir fry it's nice as a crunchy fresh veg to add as it tastes very neutral and inoffensive.
>crab
Can be very tasty but in my opinion, eating it is way too annoying as you gotta crack all the legs n shit. It's good but not good enough for me to do all that.
>nutella
I don't love it, far too rich and sweet for me. It's also really bad for you so it's probably good not to love it.
>Brussel sprouts
Really good if roasted with seasoning/glaze
>eggplant
Meh you're not missing much
>oysters

i don't get it
if an anecdote is a singular event, then if that event happens often enough, does it not become "data" worthy of consideration? this quote seems ass backwards to me
>>
>>21816658
"The plural of anecdote" is, in fact, "data" when there is a causal factor that correlates with them. And in the case of raw oysters, there is.
>>
>>21816658
Stringing together a handful of individual stories is not the same as "data worthy of consideration" because they're by definition cherry-picked so they're not statistically indicative. I'm not a picky eater I will literally stop being able to breathe if I eat shrimp, you Nazi bastard.

>because i dont think i can get oysters even at my local seafood monger's (though i havent exactly been looking for them)
It would be odd if you couldn't. Not super expensive either, for a luxury food, not like restaurant prices. But you'll have to purge them and shuck them yourself in my experience.
>will probably not try escargot
Escargot is not disgusting it's just bland as shit. You're not missing out on anything there. Oysters you should try at least once, you might hate it but people who like them tend to like them a LOT so it's worth knocking off your bucket list. Cleaned, pinch of vinegar or lemon juice, chew don't deepthroat the thing - you'll either gag or have the best time of your life.
>>
>>21820083
That just makes you a picky eater by necessity rather than choice. If I invite you over for dinner and ask what you'd like, and you say "I'm not a picky eater", who between us is at fault if I serve shrimp?

I'd consider myself very picky in that I only really enjoy certain flavord and textures but I would eat everything on this list without complaint. What would I elect to eat off of this list? maybe 8 or 9 things. Poor metrics for this chart.

1 point. Coffee. I mean, I can drink it, but I don't.
>>
>>21820342
Have you tried a flat white? American-style pot coffee is booty cheeks, in Australia we have espresso machines in literally every petrol station, cafe, fast food place, and restaurant.
>>
>>21820330
I worked with some chick a long time ago. one day she microwaved some canned oysters. probably the most disgusting thing I ever smelled in my life. that's how I found out she swallows.
>>
>>21818850
let me check my math... hmm yup still zero.

good morning.
>>
>>21813233
1. I can't stand watermelon
>>
>>21813244
Came here to post this. I will never understand grapefruit.
>Are you tired of just chewing a mouthful of aspirin?
>>
>>21820352
>microwaved some canned oysters
I didn't consider myself a picky eater but this is disgusting
>>
>>21820363
Are you putting sugar on it? Although I always think of it as grandma food, like boiled sweets.
>>
>>21820368
No but I have not and will not ever put sugar on fruit. Why would I do that? Is there any other fruit you put sugar on?
>>
>>21820371
Is there any other fruit so sour that people eat straight on its own?
>>
>>21820382
I'm not sure what correlation youre making but grapefruit is not sour at all to me. Its bitter like a mouthful of aspirin.

But yes whatever sour fruits there are. Sour green apples?
>>
>>21820386
It will vary by cultivar, ripeness, etc. The appeal of grapefruit, to the extent it has any appeal at all and at least in the part of the world I grew up, is the sweet-and-sour taste you get by putting sugar on it. If you wanted to eat grapefruit (and I don't see any particular reason you should) the thing to do would be to get a sour variety then sugar it to taste, not rely on mother nature to get the exact balance right.
>>
>>21820330
If you can actually get fresh oysters. If you live in inland rural bumfuckville then don't bother. And then there's latitude and time of year and storage. Fiddly sourcing, no good for a main dish, if you don't know how to shuck you're liable to stab yourself, expensive in restaurants. God they're fucking incredible when they're right though.

But it’s been so fun, it’s cute how many people participated
>>
>>21813233
Raisin deserves more hate. It's the worst food to exist on this god forsaken line meet curve versy verse. Everything else is fine
>>
>>21820618
You put them in your nut mix. 50% peanuts, various mixed nuts, some raisins. Good profile. For cooking I prefer saltanas.
>>
>>21820363
in contrast, a pomelo is a little bit bitter, but I had a honey pomelo last week and it was super good

>This. But maybe 1. I love grapefruit but I can't have any. : /
You're on antidepressants or something similar, aren't you?
>>
>>21813385
Mayo distaste is fake. It's an emulsion of oil and vinegar. Unless you say you hate vinegar too I guess.
>>
>>21820596
it's cute how many people outed themselves as total tastelets. these are the people telling you your food sucks in other threads btw
>>
>>21820883
>[Food] distaste is fake.
Hot take champ
>>
>>21820883
>>21820934
I don't think it's "fake" in that I think people really do believe they have an aversion to mayo, but I do think that it's often a reactionary aversion from being served something with far too much mayonnaise and deciding based on that that you don't like mayo at all. because to be fair, it is easy to go overboard with mayo, and if your only exposure to it was people drowning sandwiches in it or really wet mayo salads, I could understand thinking you don't like it. but I wonder how many of those people have had a homemade mayo as a dip for fries, or a light thin spread on a sandwich, or an acidic coleslaw with just a little mayo fir creaminess. cause I don't think most people would hate it if that was their experience.
>>
>>21821021
You definitely have a point in that often, people say they don't like something and it's really just one bad experience they had which is not representative of what a good or even normal experience with thing is like, or does not do justice to the range of experiences possible with thing. I often get this with beer - people say they don't like it, but then they've never tried a chocolate stout or a fruity IPA or many of the other styles, and when I introduce them to that, yeah, they like it, they just didn't like the "typical" beer.
Same with women and minorities, hehe
blue cheese, oysters, raisins, mushrooms(texture not taste), eggplant
>>

You're still a picky eater
>>
>>21821422
Question.
Would you eat those foods if you were in a starvation situation? And that's all you had?
>>
>>21821614
nope

good morning.
>>
I don't like grapefruit but I will eat it. I never tried oyster and I don't want to but I guess I would to be polite. The one thing that I actively avoid is endives. So score is somewhere between 0 and 3 I guess.
>>
>>21813233
>white asparagus (flavor)
>mushrooms (texture)
>eggplant (texture)
nope to those
>>
>>21821653
I would eat a live baby in a starvation situation
>>
>>21822798
Interesting, and you still self-scored as a 5.
I only bring this up because there is another anon in this thread who mentioned 8 things he won't eat, but claims he scored a zero because he'd eat anything in a starvation scenario.
>>
>>21822840
Oh, NTA. I'm a cold zero. Just wanted to advertise my willingness to eat a baby.
>>
>>21821216
>oysters
They're OK if battered and deep fried.
>>
I bumped this thread!
>>
>>21823219
And I have SAGED this thread right back to page 10 where it belongs. Don't you EVER think saging doesn't work, and this is the proof.
>>
>>21813254
>pork sits for fucking ever in my digestive system
How the fuck would you know that? Are you eating brightly colored foods before and after to get a general sequence and timescale?
>>
>>21821733
People eat leather boots and dead people if they're starving. That doesn't mean they're picky eaters if they won't eat that stuff daily

You're weak and you will not survive the winter.
>>
>>21818487
Chopped celery in a salad is great, adds a nice crunch without being overpowering like croutons. Fuck croutons.
>>
>liver is not on the list
That's the true test of a picky eater. Hardmode: no boiling milk
>>
>>21823253
you're wrong

good morning
