No wonder the Filipinos all have persimmon trees in their backyard, these are fucking amazing.

It's like cinnamon applesauce.. where has this been all my life
>>
>>21820880
From what ive seen there's 2 different types. Arent they slightly different? Like one is sweeter than the other? I agree they're good but it didn't wow me when I first tried it. Not good enough to justify the price due to it being an imported product.
>>
>>21820880
I'm growing a persimmon tree in my yard, time will tell if it winds up giving me fruit.
Persimmons are delicious and based
>>
A what? Kaki?
>>
>>21820880

>>
>>21821274
Thanks for letting me know. I'm on my way to get them right now lol
>>
>>21820898
In the US, you're likely to find fuyu (OP) and hachiya persimmons. Fuyu are good at any ripeness, and often eaten when crisp and underripe. Hachiya are inedibly tannic until very ripe and soft.
>>
>>21821625
I ate the one that looks kinda like a bell pepper and it was extremely mushy so it was most likely the second variety
>>
my parents have had a persimmon tree in their yard for 40 years but I've never tried eating one. they would just fall on the ground and get eaten by squirrels. are you supposed to get a ladder out to pick them?
>>
>>21821632
Other varieties are available. It could have been something else, especially if you're not in the US, or if the fruit was not commercially produced.
>>
>>21821685
It was like the one on the left for sure. I've seen the ones on the righAmerica pretty recently but didnt try them. They were quite expensive. Yea it was in america.
>>
>>21821634
Dude yes, eat those things

I've had a Cinnamon Persimmon from farmers market which is cured with alcohol fumes to reduce tannins and astringency.
Sweet, flavorful, with non-mushy texture.

Theres over 400 cultivars but most are not commercially available.

Chocolate Sapote/Black Sapote/Chocolate Pudding Fruit is actually a persimmon:
scientifically known as Diospyros nigra and belongs to the Ebenaceae family, which includes persimmons

>Chocolate Pudding Fruit
I've heard about that from some random youtuber that's a circus performer or something and travels around the world reviewing exotic fruit. I think i found the channel on here but it sounded good. Stuff like that will probably be a premium in America if you can even find it.

permissions are my favorite. its like if a tomato was a fruit

Pretty sure you can find them in California and Florida.
Its a subtle sweetness, not super sweet, but still good.
>>
>>21821902
Nice, gonna see what if I can locate one.
>>
>>21821902
Man, that shits way too expensive as i figured. Closest spot which is like 2 hours public transportation shows on the website that 3 pounds is 90 fucking dollars! I'll just get actual chocolate pudding cups from the grocery store instead.
>>
>>21821917
Definitely not worth it, I wouldnt pay more than the same price as apples or something.
Check farmers markets if in the area.
>>
>>21821931
Good idea
>>
>>21821931
None in the immediate area. I'll look more into this tomorrow
>>
>>21820880
They’re alright but don’t they have the fewest nutrients of any fruit? Not to mention potential health issues if you eat them when they’re not ripe enough
>>
>>21821274
Based that's the one I want. Can you recommend a brand that definitely contributes money to killing Paleshittians?
>>
>>21821827
So clever and subtle.
>>
>>21821949
Sharon. I like to wiggle some poop at the base under the leaves every time I see them on sale :^)
>>
worse disappointment than peanut butter the legendary fruit of the homeric ages that made people lose their minds and become indolent.....and when i finally tasted it, it was just a sweeter tomato
>>
>>21822764
>it was just a sweeter tomato
this is what I expected from how it looks, what a shitty fruit
>>
>>21820880
Isn't it Iranian in origin?
>>
>>21820986
>>21821118
What's the difference?
>>
>>21820880
I like them slightly overripe
>>
>>21821823
Weird Explorer isn't some random youtuber
>>
I bought a pack at Costco once. Very gross. Never again.
>>
Is this what they use to make chicken permission?
>>
I love persimmons when they get so ripe they end up like jelly sort of. Eat them cold and they make for a great dessert.
>>
There’s a lot of things in Filipino backyard that is not so amazing.

yeah they're hella good. basically there are two types, soft and hard. The one you posted is considered hard (it can still be soft, think of it like an apple hardness scale). The soft ones are mushy on the inside (and fibrous) that you suck or eat with a spoon.
Try the soft one sometime. It's as good but totally different because of the texture.

There is a persimmon (Diospyros virgiana) native to the eastern United States that is very common in the wild. The range is similar to pawpaw. The fruit is very soft when it’s ripe and it’s full of large seeds, so it’s difficult to use/ship for commercial production. People don’t even bother selling the native species at farmers markets in my area because you can’t take a piss in the woods without hitting a persimmon tree.

The Asian varieties are almost all Diospyros kaki. The wild fruit has more constitution than virgiana which makes it easier to harvest and ship for commercial sale. This is why there’s been so much effort into creating cultivars of kaki and relatively little development in virgiana cultivars.

Also a fun way to pick on citiots that pay fifty dollars a pound for some kaki cultivar when I can bumble out my back door and pick up 100 pounds of a better tasting fruit for free.
