Is microwaving eggs weird? I'm talking with my friends about it and they're acting like I'm a fucking lunatic because I sometimes whisk eggs in a bowl and microwave it to make a quick scrambled egg. Surely it's not that bad, right?
>>21826557Ehh I have been lazy and late, and did the eggs in a coffee cup and ate them. It's not the best method but whatever.
I make microwave scrambled eggs got the "recipe" from my grandma and mother, just eggs splash milk salt pepper in a pyrex jug, do increments of 30s stirring until they're fluffy.Tastes fine and fuck making eggs in a pan when this takes minutes
>when you talk with your friends about eggs and one of them suddenly starts making a 4chan thread
>>21826557Not to me, no. My dad used to do an egg or two in a mug as a quick snack, with a bit of cheese. I don't see the point of dirtying a skillet and plate if you're not cooking multiple eggs for multiple people.
>>21826587OP's friend here, he is a fucking lunatic.
I do that sometimes if I really want eggs right now like I've gotta go out and I don't even have time to steam them in my steamed egg appliance thing. I'll whap them in the microwave, whap a slice in the toaster, continue getting dressed a bit then come and eat them with butter.
>>21826557I think it's a bit redundant to do it for "quick" eggs when cooking eggs in a pan is pretty much already as quick as can be. unless your stove takes awhile to heat up, I guess. but you can cook eggs on the stove in like a minute. so how much time are you really saving, for something that's probably going to be noticeably lesser quality in the microwave? if you told me it was to avoid washing a pan, then I'd understand that. I'd think it's a bit lazy, but whatever.
>>21826557they taste pretty awful when microwaved.
>>21826621>unless your stove takes awhile to heat upIt does, it's one of those metal coil stoves from the 80s
>>21826557it's fine for quick softboiled eggs, just gotta watch out for explosions
if you haven't tried the microwaved scrams with mayonnaise yet you halve not livedhttps://youtube.com/shorts/oRTilQHhPMs?si=l2rOiNfoHZVdRUSX
>>21826557in HS I had a friend who would come over and crack a couple eggs in a bowl and microwave them, I didn’t even know it was possible until him
>>21826557Scrambled eggs are the fastest to fry up, you're just too lazy to do your dishes.
>>21826557Every time I make something that needs an egg wash I just nuke what's left in the bowl and eat that as a little chef snack. Works fine for me.
>>21826557>Surely it's not that bad, right?it means that you have given up anon. you might as well end it.
>>21826557I've heard about people doing steamed eggs in the microwave.
>>21826631I have one of those. Turn the coil on first, put a pan on it, by the time you've retrieved, cracked, seasoned, and beaten the eggs it's probably at temp or damn near. Maybe your stove is particularly shit, though.
>>21826575noooo don't give our secrets to the plebs
With a bit of practice you can do a french omelette about as fast and it's fun
>>21826557>>21826601OP's dad here, don't take what his friends say seriously they're all a bunch of faggots. I worry about my son.
>>21826694Scrambled eggs are the fastest to nuke up, you just waste water like an idiot.
>>21826575Scrambled eggs in a pan takes minutes
>>21826557I Always use the microwave to cook eggs. It's so fast and easy especially for hard boiled eggs.
It's so fast to just do it in a pan, I don't see the point in microwaving.
Literally the worst possible way to cook eggs.
>>21826557I don’t trust the microwave with cooking eggs or meat, seems like it wouldn’t cook evenly
I'm poor and don't own a microwave. They really seem like a gimmick and status symbol and that's the only reason this antique artifact from the atomic era has persisted. Anything a microwave can do is done better by the stove, oven, or steamer. So it's marketing, not merit driving sales. In computer hardware analogy, the microwave is touch screen.
>>21826557I avoid the texture of the microwave whenever possible, but do what you want. For me it's easier and tastier to just use the skillet. It's always right there and ready to go. Are you just trying to cut down on dishes to wash?
>>21827366>microwave>status symbolHow autistic are you, anon? Be honest?Microwave cooking is almost universally viewed as ghetto/white trash/bachelor cooking.Literally NOT having a microwave in your fancy kitchen would be more of a status symbol.
>>21827371This. Not owning a microwave is insane. You can get them for forty bucks. You'll use it all the time. I cook using ovens and burners for most shit but you can't beat a microwave for reheating say a plate of chinese combo food, where there's the rice and the egg roll and a pile of saucy veggies and other stuff. Same with pizza. You're hungry and you toss a couple slices on a paper plate and 30 seconds later you're in business. Yes, it's good cold. Yes, it's better reheated in an oven or on a skillet with a lid. I KNOW already. But still I use the microwave. I use the microwave to warm up a cup of coffee. Come on, I'm not getting out a pan and firing up the burner for that. Microwaves are great for little stuff.
>>21826746how does it feel knowing imindian and i get brand new gas stove in a brand new house in australia, and i didnt do any work for it?
We made scrambled eggs in the microwave once when I was a child and it stunk up the house so now I never consider it a possibility even though it probably would be fine. I do microwave mug bread frequently, which is quite eggy, and it turns out fine.
>>21827371Talk to an old boomer and they speak with a sense of awe, sharing the story of when they first got electricity. That's understandable because even if all you can do is power a light bulb it's a considerable upgrade compared to kerosene or whatever. Radio, same thing. Was fancy luxury, but it doesn't have the marketing of microwaves. So radio is mostly forgotten now or seen as only a communication thing that few even think about even when using one. Outside of hobbyists nobody specifically buys a radio. At most it's a little feature slapped on top of something else, like a digital alarm clock(now with am/fm receiver!). They had to publish microwave cookbooks as an excuse to create a need, and print advertising aggressively pushed microwave use. It very much was status. Nobody even knew good uses for them, but they had to get one because their neighbor had one. It has remained luxury because it's one of the first things a person wants to get when moving out. They don't say "I cooked/heated/[past tense verbed] a food". They say "I microwaved...". The emphasis placed on how they did it is either autism hyperspecifity for preciseness(meaning rarely the case), or it's meant to display status. "I watched movie on my ipad" vs "I watched movie on my computer". The only meaningful difference is emphasizing their brand fetishism because there is no meaningful use in distinguishing beyond sharing that a movie was viewed. It's a flex. The method used is what they wanted to convey, not whatever they used as pretense to mention owning a thing.
>>21827387You frame it entirely in terms of social pressure. "Not owning a microwave is insane." Then a list of justifications for owning it despite it's shortcomings. I've used one at work. It sucks and feels like a punishment.>labor laws say we have to let you eat on your 12 hour shift>but there's only a microwave>it must be done in a dirty messy break room designed to be unpleasant to spend time inYou have to seperate everything because it reheats foods at different rates. One thing is burned and another cold if microwave heated together. Saving a couple of minutes isn't worth it if the food is degraded. If I want leftover pizza it's because I want to eat. I'd sooner skip a meal than waste food. It's about the sensations. My selected method of reheating needs no defending because it's irrelevant. I got food, I got desire to eat, the food would be more enjoyable if, I proceed to then the if. It's not about the status, it's about the food and making it more enjoyable.
>>21827387i don't think you understood the post you replied to
>>21826557Nope, I sometimes make scrambled or fried eggs in the microwave at work and it's pretty decentFor fried my method is: Separate the yolk; Beat the white in a small plate and microwave for 30 seconds; Mix the white again breaking the cooked part from the outside mixing it with the uncooked center, shape it together and nuke for another 20 seconds; Place the yolk in the middle and nuke for 20 seconds more. This way the white is fully cooked but the yolk is runny, slap it on some bread with cream cheese and add salt
