It's shootout time again /ck/. I have recently procured three of the new elyucks and I thought it would be a good idea to orient myself to the whole range and how they fit in together. We have (in my best guess for order of spiciness):>Jalapeno>Chipotle>Grilled Pineapple Habanero>Classic Green Habanero>Classic Red Habanero>Habanero & Chiltepin>The Blacksauce>Caribbean>Mayan Kutbil-ik XXXtra Hot>Habanero & GhostThe chicken wings are dusted in starch and flour, a little salt and pep, and baked on a rack until crispie. And heeere we gohttps://youtu.be/FJQyurN6ASU?si=y2aUA1QtO6QykLzg
>>21830683Starting with the Green Jalapeno. What can I say, bright jalapeno flavour, not vinegary like a lot of these are, one of the best daily go-tos in the bunch, Delicious with cheesy pastas,
>>21830685And now on to the Chipotle. This one is super sweet, almost like a spicy barbecue sauce. I love this one but haven't ever found a great use for it. I imagine pork. It's nothing like the Tabasco chipotle really
>>21830686Grilled Pineapple. Very syrupy and sort of runny, looks sweet! This is one of the brand new ones and I have not tasted it yet
>>21830688I thought I have an after photo. It's very sweet, might be the most or maybe second most mild. Funny enough the pineapple flavour really stands out - and not just pineapple but grilled pineapple, it's delicious. The spice is there but builds very slowly in the aftertaste. Good stuff, gonna have to try this with seafood and SPAM
replying to your own posts is weird and unnecessary but I'm watching
>>21830689On to the classic green habanero table sauce. This is not as ubiquitous as the red one but I love it. Such a rich peppery flavour, not overly hot but not disappointing. Good to get you through a meal without suffering too badly. Very thick, very unappealing colour, wonderful flavour.
>>21830691Now on to the red. I think blindfolded I would be hard pressed to choose between this and the green, but this one has a less murky/musty flavour, very much like what people imagine when you think of a generic hot sauce. Again, more vegetably and not vinegary.
>>21830693Minute to chew. The wings are very juicy inside.
>>21830694Alright and now we're getting into the complicated range. This is the new chiltepin one. Super bright and tangy, almost citrusy. Would be absolutely amazing on raw oysters or seafood in general. Not whicked spicy but at least as hot as the last two. Very unique sauce, I've not tasted a sauce that was so tangy like this, it's got borderline sour notes>>21830690I think it just makes it quick to reply, I didn't really think about it
>>21830696And the famous black sauce. I love this one, it's so hard to find a good use for it but it is amazing on steak and beef in general. This is the only El Yuck that is vinegar-forward, it has a rich smokey flavour but more like a charcoal sort of thing rather than woodsmoke, so it isn't barbecuey at all. First hit is very gentle, but this one builds up fast if you use too much (like I did)
>>21830699Caribbean. They report this one to be low scoville but that's bullshit, this is almost as hot as the XXX as far as I'm concerned. Really forward black pepper flavour, gentle sweet carrot paste, and fucking HOT. I love this one but again, hard to find a really special use for it. Can't go wrong with wings I guess! Still, I can't live without this one.
>>21830701And now we into the hot bastards. The much beloved Kutbil-ik, supposedly made from a Mayan recipe based on ingredients found in pottery.Strong black pepper kick, absolutely delicious tangy/vegetably first hit which fucking KILLS you because you want to pile it on and then this shit burns. A drop leaves you wanting more but the burn keeps you from going bolder. Possibly the best and more special all round sauce in the range, idunno hard to choose.
>>21830704And finally, the Habanero Ghost. Not sure about this one at first, or whether it's hotter than XXX but WOWZA.Really bright sharp flavour, pretty pleasant, doesn't come with any of that fermented funky flavour you often get with high-capsaicin sauces, very fresh. I would love to drizzle drops of this on shellfish or rice dishes. Didn't strike me as too hot until 4mins later and eyes and nose were running. I think it's hotter than XXX but a much slower burn, so beware! Surprisingly bright and tangy, not very complex otherwise, just hot.
And that's that. I don't think I can pick a favourite or anything, it all depends on the use case. This was fun and I enjoyed eating these wings with mildly abusive hot sauces. Happy to elaborate if anyone is interested in any of these.
>>21830691green is the best in terms of flavor imo. Great habanero flavor that rivals home made habanero sauces ive made.
>>21830709Yep, I run out of that one faster than the others I think.
How about I shootout a steamy thick load in your mom's asshole
more like YUCK a teco.shit is mid at best
>>21830780Retarded>>21830777Gay>>21830683Thanks for the thread OP. El Yucateco is my favorite. I've been using the red as my go to sauce lately. The green, XXXtra Hot, Caribbean and Ghost are also in my rotation.
>>21830691this is probably the best thing with spice in it i've ever had
>>21830708If I don’t like spiciness, but do like chili flavor, are the 2 on the left my best options?
good thread 2bh
>vinegar-forward
>>21830688>>21830689Do you think this one would be a good base for a spicy teriyaki marinade?
>>21830777What do you hope to accomplish with these type of comments, anon?
Good stuff OP. I just found the chiltepin one when shopping this morning so I gotta try it on something. The XXXtra hot has been my goto sauce for years since it's the only commonly available commercial sauce I can find that's actually hot and peppery and not just salt/vinegar. I'm going to be looking for the habanero and ghost one and the Caribbean too.
>>21830898The jalapeno probably, the chipotle tastes more like a spicy bbq sauce, you might like it but the pepper flavour isn't very prominent compared to the sweet and spicy>>21831402That sounds like a great idea actually>>21831486Yeah I'm motivated to get some fresh oysters sometime soon so I can try the chiltepin on them
>>21830701this is my favorite followed by the black sauce but i always have to order it online, no store near here has it.
>>21833869Yeah I have it on eggs and rice & beans but I really need to make a pulled pork or something because I think it would be great. the black sauce I just have to have on steak every time, it's just too damned good.
>>21830683The green habanero one is good, but takes me to hell later. Too bad.
>>21833909moderation is the key to success anon
>>21833909if you get indigestion from spicy food just get some soluble fiber powder and take a tsp or two of it after spicy meals. it negates like 80% of the negative digestive effects of capsaicin.
>>21834172uh, yes this but make sure you mix it with water and take it with water. otherwise it clogs your guts.also when it comes to acid management (only if it's an ongoing problem) probiotic tablets make a big difference, they did for me anyway
>>21830699>>21830704I always liked these two the best and found the more popular red/green sauces to be somewhat disappointing
>>21834238Honestly if I had to choose only two of them it would probably be those two. A strong contender would be the Caribbean but none of the others are strong standouts
Chiltepin is goated
