when did everything go so wrong? all of my favorite brands taste worse and also leave a slimy film in my mouth now. breakfast cereals like captain crunch, turkey hill, hostess all used to taste pretty alright but now its just off

substituted ingredients and ratios of ingredients due to rising costs of certain ingredients all the big name chocolate bars and such taste nothing like they did before. an expensive reese's bar won't be bought, but a worse but quality but still sorta similarly priced reese's bar will still be purchased by certain customers with no taste

Then, after some few months, I had, most likely, accidentally destroyed the bacterial flora in my mouth as everything tasted gross too me for a while. Eventually the proper taste has returned somewhat (I ate probiotics like yogurt or sauerkraut to rebuild bacteria) but things sometimes do taste strange.On the other hand it's possible that we can detect some off-tastes which really shouldn't be there, some preservatives and whatever poisonous crap they're adding. I am sure that I could taste the detergents in a bread baked in my neighboring supermarket for example. They wash their equipment all right evidently but forget to rinse.

Seed oils especially palm oil we not common until ~15 years ago. On the same subject trans fat added alot of flavor.

Any loss of flavor that coincided with the removal of trans fat was likely due to other reformulations that happened at the same time which made things cheaper and taste worse.
