does it need a soy bath?
>>21834869That definitely does, but properly made sushi doesn't.
>>21834869>does it need one?Depends on the piece.Nigiri orders come in a pairs a lot of the time, so I always try it without adding soy to see if it actually needs it as the chef served it. If it needs it then I run it fish-side down in the soy sauce so that it gets as much as I want added.
No, I never found it necessary. Not even the cheap stuff.
>>21834871>>21834873Fucking heathens...in this temple...
>>21834883It's acceptable to go fish-side down and it makes sense to do it like that because the rice would soak up more than you probably intend. A lot of jap etiquette is fucking retarded but I get the reason for that. Either way I think it makes sense to taste some of what the chef puts out before altering it because it might already be right. But I'm absolutely gonna look to the temple's protector for his blessing first. If he gives me the ok then I dip away. If he gives me the no then it's a low bow and I will sudoku myself.
>>21834869it needs some old bay and 30 seconds in a microwave
>>21834869Yeah. To kill the ass worms it's going to give you.
>>21835111Does soy sauce really do that or are you talking out your arse?
>>218352876000-8000 mg of salt is really really effective at killing stuff
>>21834869Yeh
>>21835287>Does soy sauce really do thatno, the fact all sushi is previously frozen is what kills the worms. Never eat fresh fish as sushi.
Why do these discussions never rely on subjective taste. Who gives a fuck what some subway dwelling gook considers the peak of sushi etiquette, I like the taste of cheap overburdened sushi dipped into a slurry of wasabi and soy. Sometimes when it's really nice sashimi I enjoy it straight why bring literally any other opinion into it
>>21835055This foo

spooky take: i've never liked soy sauce on anything. is it a REAL thing?
>>21834869I'll add a sliver of wasabi and a drizzle of teriyaki
No fucking way he gets that job.. 'CAUSE HE CAN'T DO THAT JOB...
>>21834869Just give it a dip or a brush
>>21834869THE EGG
>>21836947personally i wouldn't eat rice without soy sauce. maybe mexican rice but its usually pretty lame.
>>21836947>>21837814I like it mixed with other stuff, or as an ingredient in the cooking process, but it's kinda nasty on its own. I've seen people pour straight soy sauce on rice and that shit is appalling. I'm not weeb enough to enjoy straight up plain white rice but it's pretty much always served with something else you can put on top of the rice or mix in with it that'll make it good without resorting to dumping fucking soy sauce on it.

Where's the tamago? THE EGG! THE EGG!!!
>>21837890A japanese friend of mine told me that unlike the US, a lot of sushi is made with unfrozen fish in japan, and that you're expected to use wasabi mostly to kill bacteria and parasites. Looking it up online gives me tons of different answers though, so who knows.
>>21834869>does it need a soy bath?just a lil tiny dip
>>21834940
What I hate when going to buffets is they put the fish on top of a ball of rice. DONT ALWAYS DO THAT! Leave some just as sashimi (the fish). I hate having to take a bunch of sushi pieces and stuff the balls of rice between the booth and wall. It's a pain in the ass enough having to pick all the shrimp out of the seafood casserole, all the beef out of the beef and broccoli and a few other dishes if I am trying to eat healthy.

>>21840052I've seen this a few times and it reminded me of something but I couldn't put my finger on what but now I think I have it.You know how men will prepare for a zombie apocalypse, 5G towers, government FEMA takeover or whatever and they always envision themselves doing lots of violence? This is kind of like the 45 year old bank clerk version of that, where he has no capacity for actually violence, but he still has this need for some kind of righteous cause and fury.Anyway, what is this from?

>>21842585At first I thought this movie was super cliche and shitty. I've changed my mind. It's actually really really fun.
>>21842124Let me guess, you’re black?
mix some wasabi in your soy first
>>21834871At first I thought the same as you. But then I looked it up. The somewhat unappealing lip on that fish is meant to catch more soy sauce when dipped. Why not just dunk it rice side in the soy inside? I dunno. Ask the Japanese.
>>21844572>Why not just dunk it rice sideIf I recall my weeaboo training, it's because dunking the rice makes it fall apart, which may also leave grains behind in the sauce, considered wasteful, messy, disrespectful. (From the same culture that will deliberately spill half a bottle of sake when filling a cup.) Can we get an Authorized Nip to confirm?
>>21842103100% wrong in this case. In the full scene, the young punks throw down, Wags rises to the 3-on-1 challenge, and a good samaritan holds the boys back because he was someone you don't mess with.
>>21845034That really just strengthens what I'm saying. This is the mindset that the writers are in, living out a tough guy fantasy. Him rising to a 3-on-1 fight but being held back because he's just that powerful is the epitome of that.
>>21845048no they're the ones being held back
>>21845052Yeah, I know. He's so powerful in the finance world that even trying to fight him is a losing proposition. It's tough guy fantasy. He's beating them in every arena. The writers wrote that to appeal to mid lif crisis loser guys. He's just like them for real.
>>21845056>being wrong just strengthens my argumentYou are certainly way off the mark. The writers wrote that to characterize him as a loose cannon and a bully, since he's a bad guy in the series. Talk about headcanon and fantasizing you know all about something of which you know zero.
>>21845088OK. Don't care.
>>21834869No. It needs Oishi.
>>21844583Same anon you responded to here, I did a little research. (My apologies for reddit spacing, I believe it will increase readability in this instance). The cutting technique is called sogi-zukuri.Perhaps I'm wrong and the lip on the fish isn't supposed to be there. Because when cut there is supposed to be "Yane" 屋根 or the roof to catch soy sauce. But I'm not certain if it's just supposed to be an angled flat piece or a ridge. We need a Japanese in here!
I regularly dip maki into soy as well, I don't care if it's against protocol
