Overpriced Nebb
What nebbiolo would you buy for $20?>actually, GOOD nebbiolo starts at...Ok but I'm poor and I still like affordable nebbiolo and shall continue to drink it, congrats on being rich though
>>21838088Vajra's Nebb is good value
>>21838094Yeah I've had that and liked it. What do you think of Vallana?

>>21838878Really depends on where you live, in flyover states you're looking at $35-40 for basic drinkable nebbiolo, in normal places you can get something good for $25

drinking white rioja
Had a Mount Eden Chardonnay with dinner tonight. Very good despite being the dreaded 2020 fire harvest year. Tomorrow I’ve got a 2019 Giacosa Nebbiolo Valmaggiore in the wine fridge to have with my cheesesteak.
>>21842217let us know how that pairs with the cheesesteak, ya?

>>21842538
>>21842703I had that once and of all the LdHs I've had (cubillo, tondonia blanco, gravonia blanco, tondonia rosado, bosconia) I found it the most disappointing, could have been the year. Just seemed thin and nothing but acid. Still haven't had the gravonia or the red tondonia. I gather the red tondonia gran reserva is the "real" LdH.
>>21842538cheap(ish), and goodtheir blanco is even cheaper, and also a very solid full-bodied white. good value for money producer
>>21842806I will always associate muga blanco with MILFs because there was a hot MILF I was trying to take home at a bar once because I heard she was having a falling out with her husband and she ordered a muga blanco and I tried to talk wine with her and she was having none of it and that was an utter failure
>>21842801>I gather the red tondonia gran reserva is the "real" LdH.Too pricey
>>21842806Hey I had this, this week >>21840406
>>21842801The Reserva Tondonia is considered the benchmark for the style and price, 50-60 bucks or sobut they really demand some age to start showing fruit, otherwise they're super tight and acidic. 2010 shouldn't be too hard to find and is drinking incredibly right now. They're also often the same price as current vintage (if the shop doesn't just hike prices whenever they want) due to inflation.

Why are california wine fans like this?
i got too aggressive nosing my wine and dunked my nostrils into it i had to use a napkin to dry them and then i drank the glass it tasted alright
>>21819426>Dom Dugois Arbois Vin Jaune '17Was very vin jaune-y. Only had a glass of a vin jaune once ~two years ago but I'd say it held up well to the expectations from my memory. And at the price? Good stuff. Salty nutty fino>Dom Carlines Cotes du Jura Poulsard '23Reminded me of a burgundy pinot. Which yeah thin skinned grape in a colder climate not terribly surprising. Acidity, a good amount of mushroom taste, bright fruit, very light body yet still having tannic grip.>Michel Tissot Cotes du Jura Savagnin '23This I found to be the most "generic". Still a good wine just not an overly unique specimen imo. Tasted like a bit of vanilla and maybe even a bit of ammonia? Idk mostly just sour as all hell
>>21846078Oh yeah and the ice wine was breddy gud but I'd prefer Royal Tokaji's Late Harvest at like half the priceSipping an Argyle Willamette Pinot cause you fuckers just meme'd me into it and it's meh. Only a $20ish bottle but even still there's a million other bottles I could get for $20 that I'd preferOn another note I tried an orange wine made from riesling which was actually breddy good (union sacre out of CA) Also like 3 months ago I had a ramato (skin contact pinot gris) out of abruzzo and it stood out as one of the more interesting wines I've had
>>21839909Do people still hate on Beaujolais? Is this the 90s?
>>21845771We get it, you’re scared of tannins
>>21846311Are you saying this because you should feel bad about not jumping on the latest trend, or because that was good harvest years for Beaujolais or something?
>>21846078>>21846083Based enjoyer.Willamette Pinot is good but never great imo. It's just good for American wine. Cause California is mostly trash (for me).
>>21846722Yeah if california didn't exist as a cautionary example of how NOT to make pinot noir, no one would care about oregon
>>21846898TRVKE
is washington any better?
>>21846974Washington is like Sonoma-tier pretentiousness with north fork of Long Island tier wine
>>21846898How not to make anything desu Their Chardonnay is criminal
>>21847022I think they make pretty good zinfandel thoughbeit. Also their champagne knockoffs can be alright.
>>21847031I’ve had some decent natty wines out of socal. They also do deranged shit down there like cofermenting riesling with carignan and other such godless abominations that are kind of fun from an unhinged autism standpoint
>>21847043I only had one natty wine from california and it was branded "native" and the label was some anglo settlers, the wine as decent but the humor kind of rubbed me the wrong way so I just get my natty wine from poortugal and former eastern bloc nations

I can't enjoy red wine because I feel like I drank a cup of gasoline afterwards. I hardly sleep and I can feel my heartbeat in my skull. A pity, I like red wine.
>>21849804>Local shop got a couple Jura reds>They're fifty fucking dollarsI can get a Fixin or a Crozes-Hermitage for that price that I know will be amazing, I'm not dropping that much on a mediocre Poulsard
>>21849871Yeah I whiffed on my last Savignin
>>21849839Stop drinking mags of Bdx.
>>21849871jura has the same problem that beajolais has. it was, at one point, surprisingly good wine for the price. then memesters and influensters happened and prices overshot what the wines are worth paying for, but everyone just pretends to like what the algorithm tells them to like
>>21850052I like Jura but don’t like Beaujolais
So I went and bought J. Lassalle Preference and I think I understand the champagne hype. A lot of apple, some bread, hint of floral, bit of minerality. Acidity was mouth watering but not bracing (I’ve had a lot of lemon juice whites lately). Mouthfeel was almost creamy due to the carbonation. I poured it back and forth from a flute to a regular glass and I think it tasted better from the flute. I don’t think it was confirmation bias placebo because I was expecting to enjoy the regular glass more; I think it is because the flute concentrated the aroma more. Also I expected to enjoy it more at warmer temperatures (since I lean warmer for most whites) but at 55 or so it became way too round, 48 was much nicer. So I kneel to the flute, I kneel to the recommended serving temperature. I don’t think I’m going to become a champagne-head. It was good, and I’m sure if I dropped more money it could be better, but at those prices I’m sticking with burgundy
how'd you get into wine? all i really like are cab savs, syrahs, madeira, and some grigio, mostly for cooking. i can't really discern differences but I usually only buy in the 10-20 buck range anyway, except for the madeira
>>21850165I understand your point but I lol'd at this imagining some zoomer thinking champagne is a new fad that started with tiktok (zoomers think everything popular is because of tiktok)
>>21850169cali zinfandels and aussie shiraz with meats. when I had my first job I wanted to eat steak every night and drink red wine. eventually outgrew the carnism but I still like zins sometimes. I'm like 75% white wines now. red got boring. probably in part because I eat less red meat.
>>21850170Where was that implied? Obviously champagne has been popular forever with a big boom in the 1800s and was even a power house in the medieval
>>21850165Also it was cool that it was 60% pinot meunier since that’s the unique champagne grape and I felt that aided in its character
>>21850179it's /ck/, we had a thread recently where people were arguing over whether french food was overhyped or overrated
>>21850198Fair enough I guess I used the word hype. But not in the trendy sense but rather I was referring to the enthusiasm displayed by its cult following (which is a large population at that)
>>21850169Had a mosel kabinett. Instantly unlocked something in me.
>>21850052>but everyone just pretends to like what the algorithm tells them to likeWell I actually like beaujo, fuck you.
>>21850258I do too, just had a bottle last week that I enjoyed, at $20. but things have gotten completely stupid. imagine discussing which beaujolais is best for under $50. I know inflation and blah blah blah but not even inflation can justify that. not yet at least.
>>21850268Just don't get Foillard, the other 3 or Burgaud. Any Cru Beaujo round me is still sub 35.
