Is it true that the larger lobsters actually don't taste that good?
I'm not a big fan of lobster or crab but I would like to try one of those battered and deep fried soft shell crabs at one point
larger examples of any animal tend not to taste as good
>>21841782Probably not. It's also cruel and bad practice to harvest those giant old lobsters so some fat slob can disgustingly eat it on camera for their tiktok. They're the super breeders.
They actually taste amazing. The larger the lobster the better they taste. You haven't eaten a real lobster until you've had a massive one. They just don't want you to know how good they taste because they're the ones expected to breed moreEat all the big lobsters
>>21841795I never understood this. We literally eat dead baby cows and castrate them. We torture pigs, which are highly intelligent creatures. Why would eating an older lobster be crueler than anything we do already?
>>21841798Because an old lobster is a prime specimen while a calf is just a dumb mass produced rando
>>21841782Yes. Not bad just tougher
>>21841813Look, I'm sure there are countless threads on /ck/ discussing the ethics of eating meat, and I don't want to bog down this thread. But you are fucking retarded.I would literally stomp a thousand prime specimen lobsters to death with steel toe boots over eating veal. I think that if you wouldn't make that choice you are objectively a psychopath, indifferent to the pain and suffering of others.
>>21841821Do you drink milk, eat cheese or ice cream, cook with butter or cream or use whey for gainz?
>>21841813Bingo. Cows are dumb mooks we breed for food. Giant lobsters are wild animals and are genetically superior examples of their kind. They're vital for the continuing success of their species. Think about it in simple terms. If you remove all the chads from a population then only the betas will reproduce and you'll end up with a race of inferior betas.
>>21841832If everyone is a beta then no one is a beta
>>21841831I do, but begrudgingly. I'm not morally perfect, but at least I don't rationalize it in a retarded way. Lobsters are literal insects, who gives a fuck how old they grow? Cows absolutely feel things like empathy and pain and fear.
>>21841835Eventually we'll breed the intelligence out of them just like how we made chickens retarded
>>21841835They're not literal insects though.
>>21841836Cool. Well, until then, fuck them bugs. I want a giant lobster.>>21841839They don't experience consciousness in a meaningful way that mammals and vertebrates do. There is no need for their moral consideration. They are objects to be eaten, the same way a carrot isn't having any meaningful experiences.
>>21841782larger ones tend to have more shell since they need to be thicker to sustain a big lobbo like that
>>21841821When someone gives you FACTS you're not supposed to reply with hurt feefees because you don't like FACTS (like a woman).
>>21841850Then quit your hysterical, woman-like crying when you see a bug get squashed.
>>21841852I did no such thing, so don't waaaaaaaaaah@me.
>>21841835>Cows absolutely feel things like empathy and pain and fear. They also play soccer.
>>21841798More than one thing can be bad.
>>21841868But I don't really even see this as bad, is my point. It's just a stupid lobster. If we're about to make them go extinct, fair enough, but this weird reverence for age seems really gay.
>>21841869If we eat all the giant lobsters they will go extinct. You sound like a Chinese person btw
>>21841795>They're the super breeders.
>>21841782Look what type of person is eating it. All I need to know to avoid it.
>>21841833>if everyone's retarded then nobody's retarded!False. Just because everybody has downs symdrome doesn't mean you can say that nobody is a downie.
>>21841819OP this is the correct answer as far as lobster goes. Crab generally fairs better and rarely gets tough no matter how big the crab
>>21841782BIX NOOD LOBSTAH
>>21841942If we all have the same mutation it just gets considered normal, retard bro.
>>21841992Yeah but think how awful it would be if everyone was retarded. We would all be living in caves flinging shit at each other.
People who put glue on their heads shouldn't be in our country.
>>21842015we all live in artificial caves and fling shit at each other online... wow...
>>21842026>our*laughs in billionaire*
>>21842026You shouldn't have taken them, then.
>>21842015Yeah but do you think I give a shit if lobsters start doing that?
lobster in general is mid
>>21841839>though
>>21841782Probably.I don't eat much lobster but larger chickens always taste worse and have worse texture than smaller ones.
>>21841782Yeah. Almost any older sea creature or even fresh water creature tastes worse than the younger ones. Meat gets tougher and contains more bullshit you don't want
>>21841782yes, meat gets stringy and dry. young, tender, sweet pink meat is best.
Large lobsters take like 15-20 years to grow. Legal sized ones take like 5-7 years. The large ones can make 100,000 eggs annualy while small ones make 10x less. The majority of the eggs don't reach adulthood so more is better.
>>21841798Because babies are delicious.
>>21841821I kill my lobsters humanely and I'm pretty sure it's a legal requirement to stun a cow before you slaughter it. A captive bolt pistol to the head is not inhumane. And it's not like cows look up at the stars or ponder their mortality.
>>21841821based and ethicspilled
>>21842772I think the rule is, don't eat anything you aren't willing to personally kill assuming you knew how to do it humanely, and don't kill anything you don't know how to kill humanely. I can't stand people who eat animals but wouldn't kill one, I think it's vile hypocrisy.
>>21841831>...or use whey for gainz? You really think that faggot lifts?
>>21843575Have you never seen a faggot? Those cocksuckers practically live in the gym. They're fucking jacked, bro.

>>21841821>you're a psychopath if you wouldn't kill a thousand living things instead of a single living thingInteresting logic.
>>21842053Betas don't reproduce you dummy. The huge chadsters are the breeders.
>>21843641Elon has, like, 17 kids and that lumpy sack of potatoes ain't no Chad. All the money in the world and he chooses to look like poorly-kneaded sourdough.
>>21843652We're talking about lobsters. I don't give a fuck about your homosexual crush.
>>21843662>crushElon is very, very fat and very much could, yes.>homosexualHe very much is not. He's just some ugly dude who had kids with literal whores. Grimes is a whore.
>>21843670And that has what to with eating giant lobsters?
>>21843673Elon is also quite red and while there's no such word as lobstery, he is quite crabby and that's a decapod, too. tl;dr elon musk is a crustacean
>>21843730Please continue. What would you do if Elon Musk was a giant man sized lobster?
>>21843641We can loop back to a different point in the argument so that I don't have to talk to you. (>>21841833)
>>21843760If everyone is a beta then no one reproduces and the species dies out.
>>21843736 >>21841821
>>21843614Would you kill a million bugs to till a field for wheat, or one cow? There are millions of bugs killed in the space it takes to grow enough wheat for one person for a year. Number of things killed isn't the only metric.
>>21841821you are a moron that missed the point. The problem is ecology not your hurt feelings or boring arguments about cows are more intelligent. Veal, like beef in general, is mass produced. You have breeding stock and product. It would be unsustainable to sell off breeding stock or butcher your best specimen (which for cows is not an issue in somw countries for very concerning levels of inbreeding but that's another discussion). Anything wild you catch needs to be caught with sustainability in mind. The original anon observed that this big one is equivalent to breeding stock. People catching those for short term profit are bad at and for their profession.I know you are a 20 something child and don't understand such things but maybe some other anons will at least get satisfaction out pf someone spelling it out.
>>21843596>thoughbeit
>>21844221Oh wow, thank you, Professor Sustainability, your subtlety is deafening. Yes, ecology > feelings, and yes, harvesting prime breeding stock for short-term profit is boneheaded, congratulations on identifying the obvious. Next time, swap the age guesses and insults for a chart or two; facts make a better argument than snark, and less like a tantrum from someone who thinks volume equals expertise.
>>21844324So... you're saying he's not wrong, but at high volume?
>>21844353True, but he communicated it like a Reddit mod on a power trip. Many such cases..
>>21841782>>21841787Surface area to volume ratio probably, and a proportionally lower amount of flavour distributed about a larger amount of meat
No animal is above being tortured and eaten by me. I'd say that even some humans are below that level, but they're too disgusting to actually eat.
>>21844743Conversely, I very much would be onboard with torturing and eating you.Mmmm...long pork!
>>21844324An anon made the point that harvesting and eating giant lobsters is a bad practice for the continued success of the species at the beginning of the thread.
>>21841821I'll eat human babies if it becomes legal.
large = old
>>21846517Big Boomer CockAny further questions, your honor?
>>21844221Ironically enough you completely missed his point. The previous anon said it was CRUEL. Caring about sustainability has nothing to do with treatment of animals.
>>21841821A lobster that big has lived for hundreds of years. Maybe close to a thousand. We simply have a limited amount of these animals in the wild and killing one of them makes our biosphere worse. They are inherently precious. Calves we breed by the tens of thousands every day.As for cruelty, I care very little about it.
>>21847012>We simply have a limited amount of these animals in the wild and killing one of them makes our biosphere worse. They are inherently precious. What does a thousand-year-old lobster do that a hundred-year-old lobster doesn't? I mean beyond making you clap your hands.
>>21841787Definitely not the case for pork. More fat and richer flavor. I've had pork that almost looked like red meat from a guy that raises pigs. The two year olds he can't get pregnant get chopped up. Yeah it's expensive more than tripling feed costs for less than doubling weight, but pork is already $3/lb tops. People pay $15/lb for beef and think nothing off it. There would be a market for pork that isn't ultra lean and super mild. Most people who think they don't like pork have only ever tried the fat free white meat version.
>>21841787True, a big old buck is gamey and tough but a yearling doe is tender and delicious.
>>218470231000 year old lobster has good jeans and should propagate them for the good the of lobster species.
>>21847393Then they should die and pass the jeans on to a lobster who could fit into them.
>>21841786Don't bother, it's garbage. It's just crab, but with the shell still on it. Ever had shrimp tail with the shell still on? It's kinda like that.
>>21844523pot meet kettle, the middle school ethics word vomit of yours he responded to didn't belong here
>>21847827Ah yes, the classic “I don’t like this, therefore it’s wrong” defense. Better luck next time, champ.
>>21841787Your mom begs to differ
>>21841832>. If you remove all the chads from a population then only the betas will reproduce and you'll end up with a race of inferior betasThis would essentially save civilization. Humanity should be smaller and more docile since we have no threats but ourselves, it's a waste
>>21841787tuna.
>>21841782Large=lower volume to surface area ratio. Harder for spices to penetrate. Tongue exposed to more unflavoured meat.>>21841795Chad lobster gets to live, incel lobsters get boiled alive.
>>21841821very reddit post
>>21845923It's already legal if you're an elite
>>21841813Literally other way around.
>>21841787Same with fruit, huge oranges don't taste as sweet and are basically all water.
>>21848088Hostile ayy lmao manipulators typed this post
>>21841821go back
>>21841782I know that is true with shrimp..
I've eaten a reasonable number of lobsters throughout my life and I don't find there's any particular difference in taste between big and small lobsters. The only ones that are actually shit are the recently molted lobsters are all shriveled up inside, you only really get those from indjuns that fish off season and sell their shit illegally though.
Yes, when it comes fish/shell, bigger does correlate to having worse taste.Source: fishmonger.
>>21847366It's weird what they've done with pork. I went abroad and had pork and it was wonderful. Come back to Britain and you it's almost like a different meat. Heard multiple Chinese and also a Danish person complaining about our pork - gamey, dry, bad generally. So they keep the pigs too lean? I also heard it's cos they don't castrate them as they used to for animal welfare reasons
>>21841782False. It's something poors tell themselves to cope. Sour grapes. t. Ate a 5 pound monster 17 years ago at the Cape.
>>21853379Liar. They don't harvest or sell lobsters that big down the Cape. It's illegal and the lobstermen understand why they shouldn't harvest them.
So larger specimens of a species taste worse than smaller specimens of the same species. But what about a naturally larger species of lobster compared to a large specimen of a smaller species?
Isn't it illegal to keep lobsters this big?
>>21841782She's cute and she looks so happy bros
>>21853596In civilized places, yes. No lobster fishery in America legally allows harvesting giant lobsters. I think they might allow it somewhere in Canada. I don't really understand how the companies that sell giant lobsters to American tiktokers get away with it or where they source their lobsters.
>>21841798Because his problem isn't with eating it, his problem is that the big lobsters are good at fucking. After lobsters reach a certain height, many states and countries ban capturing them as they are good at fucking female lobsters thus making a lot more little lobsters. Equally if you catch a lobster that is female and has eggs, you usually have to let it go and mark it by cutting a notch in its flipper, so if it ends up in another trap, they have to let it go. They want to keep the big fuckers and females capable of breeding alive and well because if you lose those two it will collapse the lobster population and basically a lot of people who catch them for a living are out of a job.Lobsters and by extension crabs are actually perfectly fine to cook alive, since they don't have an actual brain they don't have pain receptors and are unable to understand when you throw them in boiling water. They just die when their organs can't keep them alive in that heat. It's perfectly humane, it's only the trooners and other inclusion obsessed femoids who are saying we can't boil them alive, there is very little science proving that crabs can feel pain. All the research that says they do is mostly speculative or non-conclusive, meaning it's subjective thus it does not exist.
>>21841786It's gross as fuck. A dont know how people can eat soft shell crab. Same with peel and eat shrimp that has not been devained
Lobsters are r-selected species whose larvae are pelagic initially and suffer high rates of mortality. In r-selected species, fecundity (reproductive output) is directly related to body size. Since lobsters never stop growing bigger, the older, larger lobster contribute far more to population sustainability than smaller younger specimens. So that's why it's bad to eat older crustaceans or fish or any other r-selected species.t. fisheries biologist
>>21854562>they don't have pain receptorsFalse>are unable to understand when you throw them in boiling waterTrueThey can be repelled by negative stimulation. Like when you throw them in the boiling water and they flail around. But they (as you pointed out) don't have brains, so they are in no way capable of knowing what the fuck is happening. It's all just reflexes.
>>21853610>I think they might allow it somewhere in CanadaCanada has special rules for indians when it comes to fishing and hunting (that they don't follow btw) so it probably came from one of them.
>>21841821if youre insinuating that veal is worse than beef keep in mind:>slaughtering factory calves isnt robbing them of a good life, its a practically a mercy killing>calves are ripped away from their mothers regardless of the veal industry
