anyone in the south? what you cooking for the long weekend? what you eating if your power goes out?
>>21847238I’m sick. If my power goes out I guess I’ll be heating up canned soup over a campfire
>>21847238Im in florida panhandle and I doubt it's going to get that bad, certainly not as bad a last year when everyone lost their shit because it snowed here for once.If it does get cold enough I might do some chili or soup.
>>21847238Cans of ravioli and potato chips
>>21847238I'm eating uncooked ramen. I live all alone on a mountain and I know the power is going out
canned beans dry ramen potato chipscorn chipswasabi peasmixed nutssalamibreadbeerAnd a lot more. My pantry is stocked.
>>21847238i got some mint fudge cookies and some ketchup tater chips from the lidl. and stopped for a culvers deluxe on the way back home.
I have a generator and I live rural.
southanons. this may seem retarded but they do it up here all the time. do not run a generator in your garage. do not gas grill in your garage.
>>21847302I have a little Ryobi one I wish I had a bigger more powerful one
>>21847238I have a Dutch oven and lots of firewood and lots of various canned Wendy’s chili both with beans and no beans and I have cheese, cold, cuts, crackers. To drink I have lots of sodas and beer
>>21847327This is an interesting idea. I have a lot of canned Skyline chili. I don’t have a Dutch oven but I could pour some in a pot and set it next to the fireplace and it would warm up and I have a lot of shredded cheddar cheese and I could buy some chopped onions. This is making me hungry! I sure do hope we lose power!!!
Funny I was just looking in the pantry and asking myself if it’s even possible making tuna noodle salad using spaghetti if SHTF with this storm
>>21847238I won't be smoking cheese but in very cold and stormy weather smokers do some magical things. Deep infusion. Try it, must not be electric though.
>>21847327>>21847337why not make real chili? instead of canned SLOP
>>21847305Fuck off, commie
>>21847361Because with mass produced food they've already got the recipe down pat and machines these days can put out exactly how much of each ingredient you want giving superior uniformity. Large companies who have been doing this for decades know how to do things right and if somehow they didn't, people wouldn't buy it. Stop being silly.
>>21847374that's right you tell em. you want to inhale carbon monoxide in an enclosed space it's your 80 IQ right as an american to do so
>>21847382>they've already got the recipe down pat>Dextrose, Disodium Inosinate & Disodium Guanylate, Xanthan Gum, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Gum Arabic, Maltodextrin, Smoke Flavor.
stay safe amerifriends
>>21847374you dont have my permission.
>>21847238Are rhe grocery stores already empty? When I lived in Maryland if the news mentioned snow once you couldn't go to the grocery store for a week.
Kristy Noem is the head of FEMA and I'm pretty sure they just found the last body from those 100 dead girls from the flooding in TX on the 4th of July.
>>21847361>why not make real chili? instead of canned SLOPOP states “what you eating if your power goes out?” I would find it difficult to prepare real chili in the dark without a proper stove or oven
>>21848085>a fucking bay leafI was thinking we were talking about making food now before it went out, like make a big pot of chili now and eat it over the next couple days. (I just made chili so I went with pasta fagioli)Although you are certainly right that would be impossible to make with no power a can of cold, store bought chili would be very unpleasant.
>>21847382They are made as cheap as possible and taste like metal
>>21847382you cant be fucking serious ben franklin
I’ve got a fireplace, hot dogs, and marshmallows. If the power goes out, my plans ain’t changing
>>21847238I'm just wondering why would your power go out? I live in the north and that snow storm wouldn't be much of a hindrance. I think Ive seen the power go out once and that was from a freak ice storm, never just snow
>>21847481based, love that series
>>21849254Same. Also from a northeast city and the powers never gone out for more than 24 hours. I don't know why people in big east coast cities act like they're going to die during these big storms when we've been dealing with them our entire lives. At most you can't go out for a couple days if the roads aren't cleared but it isn't like everything is cut off and you're completely isolated in the city.
>>21849244You eatin s’more wieners?
>>21847238I'll be fasting I suppose.I remain a little chubby for just such occasions.
We're not expecting much but I have my usual stock of ready to eat and canned stuff plus the small generator needes for the well. But it'll be decently cold so I'm making a bean salad type dish (it's eaten hot, so maybe it's a soup?) with white beans, cabbage, farro, and cured meats along with pasta and chicken in vodka sauce. The pasta is more questionable but both would be pretty ok even if eaten cold.
>>21849348Maybe? Probably notProbably wieners with s’mores for dessert
>>21849254>>21849346>why isn't your grid built to handle the weather hundreds of miles away?Same reason our pipes burst in prolonged freezing temps that aren't actually all that cold. Stuff's built for the environment it sees 98% of the time.Do you guys have a lot of buried powerlines or no? They keep talking about the weight of ice buildup on overhead lines as the major cause of outages.
>>21849254Where I am people will try to drive 35 MPH in a snowstorm and crash into a pole.
>>21849715Nah my power lines aren't buried. The only time there's an issue is gnarly summer storms. The water mains and what not is understandable, but I assumed insulated infrastructure was the standard outside of the dessert or some shit
>>21847570>upstate new york. You don’t see the ground until May
Southfriens, your Waffle House Status?
>>21847238Hope these dumb hicks freeze to death. Too stupid for blankets too stupid to live.
>>21847238We missed all of the snow where I'm at. Expecting a potential freeze tonight, though. I made a big pot of beans last night, and I'm starting to accept that my gut is retarded today. At 30 years old, I think it's time to admit that I have IBS. But there's no shot that I'm about to stop eating onions and garlic. And cooking a pot of beans from dry beans is one of the few traditional southern foods I still make, so I'm probably not going to quit. People will have to get over the fact that I smell like concentrated sulfur.
still have power but I had one last night just for kicks.MREs don't really count as cooking do they?
>>21847238>tfw truckerI got some frozen stuff in here like chicken patties and burritos but since shipments are stoppef the truck stop I'm at has a dwindling supply. Hopefully I can move out tomorrow, I'm so bored I could eat my knees.
>>21847282>I live all alone on a mountain and I know the power is going outPost cabin.
>>21849834Grim.https://www.wsmv.com/2026/01/25/tennessee-waffle-house-has-closed-because-winter-storm-heres-what-know-about-waffle-house-index/
>>21851648Play osrs. It's unironically the perfect tablet game
>>21847238I made a pot of collard greens with potatos and sausage yesterday, and today I made a pot of greens and beans soup with the pot liquor. I'm soaking some white beans now, I'm going to be making pork and beans and a pot of rotkhol tomorrow. I'm going to be eating good this week.
>>21847238Got one of those portable camping stoves after last year's power cuts, I'm prepared this time.
>>21847282Wait, why wouldn’t you have some other way to cook food with no power lol
I have power thankfully. Got some pizza dough rising and plenty of beer in the fridge. We comfy over here.
I DON'T WANT TO SHOVEL 2 JEET OF SNOW. AHHHHH. FUCK.
>>21851650Here's my yard
>>21851811Imagine the smell.
>>21851780I have a generator but you never know if it will start even if you do maintenance especially when it's outside and it's 10 degrees fahrenheit overnight
>>21851897I guess I’m surprised you don’t have some sort of fireplace or firewood stove. Best of luck to you, if you aren’t in the ice path you’re probably good right..?
>>21851643Did you put the meal in the heating packet?>>21851648Godspeed bro
>>21847238Long weekend?
>>21847238Grilled some burgers last night in preparation for losing power. Didn't, so made a big pot of chilli tonight. To morrow's pan seared frog's legs, garlic, herb and cheese orzo, and some bacon wrapped asparagus. That's as far out as I've planned.
>>21852395yes and I did it again tonight. If this keeps going for another 65 days I'll be out of supplies
>>21851839deciduous forests are so depressing this time of the year
If the power companies cut down most of the trees near power lines, or just upgraded to underground a lot of issues would be solved
