Was Yellow Wendy's really that much better or is this another instance of zoomer nostalgia-fagging?
>>
Don't know dude. I never had that shit before
>>
>>21850354
>zoomer
They weren't around for Yellow Wendy.
>>
>>21850354
Zoomers never experienced yellow Wendies, and if they did they were too young to remember it.
Anyway OP is a fag and I will daydream about them being thrown in a giant blender and killed beyond recognition.
>>
I am comparing their nuggets and fries since that is what I had when it was Yellow Wendy's, but now it feels like it is similar seasoning but they put in some weird chemical filler into the breading, because it always has this chemical taste to it that it did not have even a decade ago. Have no idea if this is just changing tastes and they were always like that or if they added something the last several years
Fries have always been unremarkable from them, depends how you get them
>>
>>21850354
the fries were better than anything you can even imagine zoomnig.

old wendys buns used to be very slightly sweet. and way more pliable than the current mass produced dry dogshit ones
the buns would soak up a thorough layer of grease from the beef and it added a distinct flavor. for me the flavor of the wendys bun soaked in grease is a unique taste that has gone away and will never come back because they don't prepare them that way or with those ingredients anymore

really, though, the critically bad buns used by wendys has to be a strategic choice made by a saboteur running (ruining) their company at the top
>>
They had the worst fries of the Big Three by far. The burgers were the least fast food tasting of The Big Three in a good way if you know what I mean. Didn't eat nuggies then or now and I hated the Frosty and much preferred McDonald's shakes.

Wendy's chili tasted better in a yellow paper bowl
>>
>>21850354
Haven't eaten Wendy's in maybe 20 years, but the last time they had this yellow branding in the OP and I had a bacon mushroom melt. Was great.
>>
>>21850354
Fast food in general was better back then, so yeah it was.
>>
>>21850398
>>21850400
they post like they did in their zoomer echo-chambers
>>
>>21850426
their fries were always their weakest points. nowadays, they taste slightly better than before
>>
>>21850354
Nah, the early 2010's revamp Wendy's went through was the best era. Yellow era's fries were soggy as shit but everything else was fine. They're fucking garbage now.
>>
>>21850354
It was goated. All went downhill with that sea salt non sense
>>
>>21850497
>They're fucking garbage now.
true that. but imo, they're still better than McD's and BK. especially considering their current state rn
>>
>>21850354
it was ok. their peak was when the hand cut sea salt fries first dropped but they immediately pulled the rug. rip Dave he’s rolling in his grave
>>
>>21850416
>some weird chemical filler into the breading, because it always has this chemical taste to it that it did not have even a decade ago.
It might be yeast. So many breaded things use yeast as a flavoring now for some reason and it always tastes like shit.

>Mini Chicken Tender Bites

>Chicken Breast (65%), Water, WHEAT Flour, Starch, Palm Oil, Salt, Yeast Extract (Contains BARLEY), Stabiliser (Sodium Carbonates, Sodium Citrates), Garlic Powder, Spices (Contains CELERY), Acidity Regulatory (Lactic Acid, Calcium Lactate, Citric Acid), Modified Starch, WHEAT Gluten, Onion Powder, Sugar, Natural Flavourings (Contains MILK), Raising Agent (Diphosphates, Sodium Carbonates, Calcium Phosphates), Fully Refined Soybean Oil, Dehydrated Chicken Powder, Smoke Flavouring.
Rapeseed Oil
>Rapeseed Oil, Anti-foaming Agent (Dimethylpolysiloxane).
It could be something else, maybe the various sodium things. But I've definitely noticed an increasing use of yeast and things tasting worse in general.
>>
They used to have these Asian zing nuggies where you toss the whole thing in a clamshell. That and a chocolate frosty was the go-to gma lunch after our soccer game. Better times
>>
>>21850497
>early 2010s wendys
there was a time you could get their 4 for 4 and substitute the fries for a full garden salad, which came with a dressing. the salads were incredible at the time so if you were trying to eat halfway decent at a cheap rate, substituting that for your fries in a 4 for 4 was an insane deal
wendys hasn't been good, and is now actually bad, for probably over 3 years now though
>>
>>21850354
>yellow=pee
Yes it was better
>>
>>21850354

I never had a Wendy's burger from that era that didn't have at least one piece of cartilage in it.
>>
Going to the local amusement park and stopping at the yellow Wendy's next door for a bacon cheddar burger and biggie fries is a core memory
>>
>>21850591
yellow on me
>>
>>21850354
The restaurant and its products used to be better and during that time their packaging happened to be yellow. This was during a time when all fast food was better value for your money compared to now, not just Wendy's. Any promotion they do with the yellow packaging is nostalgia pandering.

The yellow has nothing to do with it.

They changed their fries in 2010, turning them into soggy shit with disgusting skins left on.
They changed their patties in 2012, shrinking them by about 30%.
They introduced then removed apple smoked bacon in 2014.
They changed their baked potatoes in 2015, reducing the size by about 40% and toppings by half.
They changed their lettuce in 2025 going to from whole green to shredduce.
They changed their buns sometime in this timeframe, from the white sprinkled keiser-type ones (pic related) to plain ones.

What's left is a shit version of what it was 15 years ago. The yellow was LONG gone by then, gone in the 90s.

At least their nuggies are still good, but they doubled the price of those in 2024.
>>
>>21850715
Their fries were always hit or miss in the Yellow era. Sometimes they were crispy with a soft interior but most of the time they were limp and soggy. When they were made right they were good. Unfortunately that didn't seem to be the norm.
>>
>>21850584
you were also able to substitute the fries for baconator fries, which was also another good alternative
>>
>>21850719
The worst part is Dave's daughter is in charge, she did all this
>>
>if we give them too much food for that money they'll get fat!!

I wonder (((who))) could have been behind this dastardly scheme
>>
>>21850354
yellow wendy's was the best wendy's
>>
>>21850354
Stores of the Yellow Wendy's era were comfier, but the food was about the same.

I'll tell you kids what peak Wendy's was though.
Did you know they used to have a Salad Bar?
(Pizza Hut too)
Loading up an awesome salad with all your favorite toppings before your square cheeseburger was magic.

wendys went from being the best to the absolute worst
i dont bother with it anymore since they ruined the spicy chicken
a few weeks ago it was the only place open when i showed uo late to a hotel and desperatwly wanted a salad after all the grocery stores were closed and it was supposedly open but no one even answered at the drive thru i even cir led around a coupke times
totally weird and creepy but on brand for shitty wendys

Man I miss taking left over chili potatoes home after working night shift there.
>>
The chicken sandwiches used to be amazing. They were thick, whole breast fillets, super juicy and flavorful... similar to Chick fil E but at least twice as good, if not three times as good. The spicy chicken sandwich was particularly divine. Now they're thin, dry, pounded out patties and the meat doesn't rip in shreds like it used to and feels more like a big chicken nugget. The taste is horrible now. The burgers are mid, they used to be huge and scrumptious but now they're just slightly better than Burger King. Anybody remember the big Wendy's chocolate chip cookies? They were fucking baller, closest to the taste I've found is Safeway bakery cookies.

Wendy's DIED in 2013.
Sorry to say, but the swapping of corporate parent companies and the way the produced and sourced their products will probably never go back to what it once was.
Just a fact.

>for some reason
There’s a pretty interesting reason and its that yeast is an ideal organism to genetically modify to produce whatever flavor you need
>step 1 identify chemical
>step 2 make the yeast make the chemical
>big vat of nutrients
>grow and harvest yeast
Like a 90% price reduction compared to extracting a flavor from nature depending on the flavor
and in the US you’re allowed to call it Natural Flavor if it comes from yeast
>as usual, Asimov called if first

Wendy's definitely has gone downhill over the last 20 years, just like pretty much every other restaurant chain. The real low point was during the 2009 economic crash when they went bankrupt and got bought out by Arby's; the food was basically inedible for a while there.

Currently the burgers are back to an acceptable level and the chili is ok, but holy fuck do those chicken nuggets suck ass. Also their chicken sandwich is dry and flavorless, and their fish sandwich is pretty poor.

I go every few weeks to get a Double Baconator.

Wendys got better in the last 20 years. Not too many years ago they redid their fries to keep some of the skin which is a good thing and guarantees them to this day to be hot and crispy guaranteed no questions asked and invested in lamp units to keep them warm. They also renamed and redesigned the single, double and triple to become Dave's single , double, triple. The previous preteen Hot 'N Juicy line became thicker and they started to use bakery fresh buns which are always much softer than their previous counterparts.
>>
>>21850354
Even if the food wasn't technically better (it was the jr bacon cheeseburger has shrunk by at least a third and the bacon is much much worse now) it used to be made by people that looked like you and had a shared cultural connection so they had a much bigger incentive to make it right.
Nowadays even the people working together have no incentive to care about their fellow employees and not even the employee meals are made with even a hint of love.
>>
>>21850719
>They changed their lettuce in 2025 going to from whole green to shredduce
This was the final straw for me, I've tried them a few times afterwards and it just isn't the same. The brand is dead to me and the only thing they have is the frosty and that's just because you can't really do much to fuck it up.

Burgers were tastier back then, definitely beefier than McDonalds or Burger King. Junior Bacon Cheeseburger was always a good deal.
The fries weren't that crispy but they had a good potato flavor. Sort of like In-N-Out.
>>
>>21854822
>I always wondered what exactly about Wendy's burgers was supposed to be "old fashioned".
Compared to McD's, where Dave worked before, the grind was coarser, the meat wasn't frozen, and it developed ragged edges when it was smashed on the grill. Those same ragged edges tended to carbonize too. All of which resulted in a burger that didn't appear machined like McD's did.
