Because there are no natural predators and hunting is less popular, we have way too many deer in the United Kingdom. Right now there are more deer in the UK than there have been in the last 1000 years.Unfortunately the only time I see venison offered is at fancy fine-dining places where you can pay £40 for a tiny mouthful of (admittedly delicious) meat. Why isn't venison as popular as beef? Why can't I get venison mince at the supermarket and venison burgers out of a kebab van?who (or what) is behind the conspiracy to allow deer numbers to increase uncontrollably in this country? what are your favourite ways to prepare deer? please discuss ITT.
Venison sosij role at greggs would bang so hard
>>21851282you can get venison at every rural/country meat supplier here in NA, albeit still hard to come by because, in reality, anybody putting in the effort to go out hunting is keeping it all for themselves, and why wouldn't they?idk what the process is like in the UK whatsoever, but in Canada it's an extremely short process to get a hunting license and a few hundred bucks (heh) to grab a low-end rifle or acceptable recurve bow/crossbow. and frankly, as anyone regularly hunting already knows, this just about pays for itself on the first killstop bitching and go out and do it yourself
>>21851282Will you deer to kill a kings dare?
>>21851282not many people with hunting loicenses around unfortunately>>21851286used to get venison/boar/apple sosij at the local farmers market, they did indeed bang
>>21851301>you can get venison at every rural/country meat supplier here in NAYou can literally get it for free in the US. It's donated by hunters to food pantries. I saw it for sale at… I wanna say ShopRite?… the other week for just $1.99/lb. It's only ever mince/ground venison but nonetheless, it's pretty common around here. Philadelphia suburbs, btw. What I've never had is moose. I've heard it's more venison-y venison so I imagine it's like how mutton tastes like more lamby lamb (despite moose and deer being different species entirely).
>>21851282You can literally buy venison mince at waitrose and tesco. Ive seen venison pattys in Morrisons too. And if you get up off your fat arse and go to local food markets theres always a venison stall selling cuts, they sell online too. Often butchers will have some venison too.
Venison tenderloin is my favorite kind of meat. As far as buying it from stores, I never have, I hunt and process my own deer.
Deer wasting disease is a little scary. Were I 60 years old, I would give less fucks about getting turbo prion dementia, but I still have a long way to go, and I don't trust the government or hunters with monitoring the situation.
>>21851333i've heard very conflicting bits on moose from native friends in northern canada who are regularly eating itit's either described as really gamey/venison-y venison as you say, or as insanely beefy and not gamey at alli assume preparation method has a lot to do with it but i've yet to make the journey far north enough to get any
>>21851390>i assume preparation method has a lot to do with itMaybe it's cut? There are parts of beef I would say are borderline gamey.
>>21851282>too many deer in the United Kingdomtime to learn to hunt.it's just that ez.
>>21851394that would actually explain a lot i embarrassingly hadn't thought hard enough about this, from my understanding whenever they do pulled moose (which is where i hear most of the super gamey comments) they combine multiple cuts together, whereas the people i know who attest to its beefiness get specific about cut
>>21851282>we have way too many deer in the United Kingdom.Oh dear!
>>21851282>Why isn't venison as popular as beef?Because it's not farmed in the same way and any deer culled would not conform to Supermarket requirements of 'consistency'. Most Hunters will already have agreements with certain butchers or restaurants but I'm sure if you asked a butcher, they could get some for you. You don't need a licence to hunt in England/Wales (not sure about Scotland) you just need the usual Firearms Certificate and Landowners permission. A Butcher could get hold of some for you
>>21851282Just let /k/ loose among the deer. No, don't ever google /k/ + deer. Also, you wouldn't want to eat any deer from /k/.
>>21851282What you are seeing is actually the deer population recovering after we almost hunted them to extinction. Theres a reason only so many deer tags are offered every year. Before regulation we literally almost wiped deer off the face of the earth.
Because there are no natural predators and natural selection is less popular, we have way too many humans in the United Kingdom. Right now there are more humans in the UK than there have been in the last 1000 years.Unfortunately, despite this massive surplus of free-range meat, the resource is completely going to waste. Why isn't human meat as popular as beef? Why can't I get ethical human mince at the supermarket or a sustainable burger out of a kebab van?Who (or what) is behind the conspiracy to allow human numbers to increase uncontrollably in this country? What are your favourite ways to prepare human? Please discuss ITT.
>>21852773So there were more humans on GB 1,001 years ago than there are today?
>>21852756We don't have a 'tag' system in England/Wales and the only time you need a licence, is to hunt deer out of season.
How many countries farm deer for meat? When I worked in the veterinary pharma industry, New Zealand was the only country we had livestock products for deer.
>>21851282Deer burger is fucking dry and awful. It's way WAY too lean. You have to grind in another fat (pork fat is popular) but it still isn't very good.Source; I live in the PNW and everyone hunts here.
>>21852773>he doesn't know about the kebabs
>>21851423There is more to it. It depends on the cut and preparation, yes, but a lot more to do with the age of the animal, the size, what it has been eating, time of year, even how clean the kill was. No 2 animals will taste the same. That's a huge difference between wild and farmed meats.
>>21851282Have browns and gypsies fight them for supremacy of the forestHunt the winners using mondeos
>>21853023we do in the US, but we lie and call it wildlife management.
>>21851333>You can literally get it for free in the US. It's donated by huntersLol thisIf you work with ONE guy who hunts, you WILL get a bag of venison jerky or sausage, guaranteed
>>21852773KEK
the economic issue is that most of the people already inclined to eat deer are people who hunt deer themselvesand while I love venison it is also extremely easy to fuck up in cooking due to how lean it is. I had my share of shoe leather growing up from someone overcooking it. I don't really think it's a great meat to throw into the casual sloppa restaurant market and expect good results>>21853142it makes a decent sausage but yeah I don't bother making burgers>>21853244>That's a huge difference between wild and farmed meats.yeah even with deer it's a bit of a roulette game on the exact taste of the meat, though I can safely tell anons that a buck will always taste gamier than a doe, so if you purely are hunting for meat hunt female deer
>>21851282Reintroduce wolves back into the UK. Problem solved.
