I bought everything I needed to make chili yesterday, except I somehow forgot to buy the beans. My city just got a foot of snow and it's a 45 minute walk to the grocery store, so I don't really feel like going out to get them right now.
Can I just make a chili base with the veggies, meat, tomato sauce, spice, stock, etc, then reheat the whole thing tomorrow and add the beans? I know canned beans are already cooked, I'm mostly just worried about their texture being too different from the rest of the chili if they don't have time to simmer inside of it.

once you add beans it's no longer chili, but bean casserole.
>>
>>21851583
Considering most recipes suggest adding the beans at the end anyway it seems you should have no issues whatsoever

The reason people have you add already cooked beans at the end is because acid (from the tomatoes) will toughen the beans

If you use canned you'll be fine, if you're going to use dry beans then cook them first before adding them

Texas red purists truly need to be roped. You are the redditors of chili.

CAn you make chili with black beans instead of the typical kidney beans?
>>
>>21851583
>add the beans
The best way is to cook the beans seasoned however you prefer, and serve them on the side. If your guest prefers, he can add them into the chili at the table, or if he's a gentleman of taste and distinction then he will prefer to eat them as a side dish.

>nooo you have to reinforce my delusion that chili has beans and women have penises or you're a redditor
no. You are mentally ill and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

californian chili items look like some disgruntled worker decided to shart on the orders and I am ok with that

You can not add the beans after the tomatoes because the acidity from the lowers the PH of the dish & causes the beans to take 8+ hours to cook soft & even then they tend to not have a very good texture. To combat this you can add baking soda to the dish & raise the PH but depending on the acidity of it to nullify the acid you may end up having to add so much that you can taste it & that would be gross
