>doesn't look too bad
>goes to turkish store and buys "karabugday"

>fast fowards 2 weeks

>"mmhhh yummy gruel"
>goes to parents house

>everything BUT the rice tastes good
>finishes plate anyway because i love my mama
how did i get this mindbroken? is it a russian psyop? usually white rice is my favorite carb but now i don't want to even think about it

try brown rice. especially if you can get brown jasmine or basmati rice. i always thought white rice was a bit bland, lacking depth of flavor and texture.

>>21851913
>yummy gruel
use less water and the grains will stay intact.

Try parboiled rice. The rice is boiled in the husk and then removed afterwards. It's a nice middle ground between white and brown rice.

Farro is really good too if you can find it.

it might actually be the whole grain thats making it taste better, i find that whole grain bread is superior to white bread
>>21851924
i do use less and less water and it does taste better when the grain has some resistance

If you haven't yet, I recommend trying bulgar. If you like buckwheat you may also quite like it. It's basically cracked wheat grains. Also try sorghum, another different grain, quite tasty.

Random fun fact, buckwheat is actually much more closely related to sweet potatoes and morning glories than it is wheat or rice.

>Get my hands on a bunch of lamb neck chops
>Make a soup of grilled neck chops simmered in chicken bone broth with leeks, onions and herbs
>Look for a grain to punch it up a notch
>Oh hey barley is cheap and pretty trad
>Simmer several cups of barley in the soup, throw in a sneaky quarter cup of oyster sauce to blast the umami
>Final dish is gloriously hearty and savoury
>Wife and I have two bowls each for dinner with toasted sourdough and a glass of light dry red
>12 hours later get the farts
>18 hours later farts make way for something more pressing
>18.5 hours later take nine of the biggest shits in my entire life in the space of thirty minutes
>Wife is in the same situation yelling at me from the ensuite that I’m not allowed to cook with whole grains ever again
>Crawl into bed that night feeling completely hollow and cranking off gusts of lamb scented flatus every three minutes
>Pets won’t even come into the bedroom
>Up in middle of the night taking another three huge shits
>MFW I accidentally created a soup that completely scours the entire GI tract of everything you’ve eaten for the last ten years that hasn’t quite made it through
And that’s how I learned to respect the wholegrain.

i've had bulgur salad before, pretty good. This sorghum stuff though likes like quinoa or amaranth, costs that much too, i'll try it anyway
>>21852423
it costs me more than pasta, rice or potatoes
>>21852624
what i like is
>rinse buckwheat a few times until water is clear
>boil 1 part buckwheat with 1.5 part water until grain is cooked but has some resistance
>sauté chopped onions and carrots
>throw some ground beef in and set to low heat
>when beef/veg pan and buckwheat are ready mix both
>only seasoning is salt

I do like quinoa and amaranth, but they're kind of a different thing, I find them very dense. Sorghum is quite fluffy and ever so slightly sweet. The closest equivalent though it's not a grain would be couscous. Also you can pop sorghum like popcorn and it's quite fun, like a bowl of tiny tiny popcorns.

because buckwheat is fucking awesome. it tastes so good I can eat it plain with just water and without even salting it.

Go eat a big ass bowl of boiled barley and get back to us.
