Port Valdouro Rose
* Approachable
* Engaging
* Strong
* Affordable

Ports & Madeiras in general are recommended because they're so hilariously out of fashion you can pick up something incredibly drinkable and potent for cheap.

the two whites I've tasted on it are grossly outperforming my current stems, they're cheaper than spei def but i've only tasted out of those glasses a handful of times.
>>
>>21875729
They're fun to hit with a small hammer or butter knife.

Exactly. Hate how it just flies all over the place.

They need to put the wax on there to reassure the customer that there is nothing wrong with the cork and it's spozeduh taste that way
>>
>>21876622
I know you're joking but just get those new fancy corks.
>>
>>21876625
I mean I kind of made it up but I think it's pretty likely in the case of your oxidized meme wine, that they would do it as a preemptive quality statement since they were doing it before the internet

The our daily organic wines are way better than their $11-12 price tag suggests.

how do i get into wine
>>
Whoops sorry accidental post'
>>
>>21879441
Go to the liquor store and buy the cheapest of whatever style. That's it, you're set. The whole industry is filled with snake oil bullshit. You taste a bottle of one style, you've tasted the entire style. Sommeliers can't tell a $10 bottle from a $300 bottle so don't think that you will be able to.
>>
>>21879505
yeah but which styles
>>
>>21879441
try a lineup of wines, comparative tasting with different wines side by side is the best way to expose your palate do different stuff and get an understanding of what your preferences are. imho, lineups are the best.
>>
>>21879441
wine is not necessarily this bespoke/expensive artiste pursuit, it can just be a hobby. I remember seeing that wine quality levels out at ~$60/bottle, and you can have a downright great time with a $19 bottle. the super expensive prices are for rarity/novelty of flavor, not necessarily great taste.
just buy some. you could go by a varietal chart and choose by weight. you could go by color, you could go by region, or by pairing. you'll eventually find one you like.
a good amount of the fun is finding the different notes. it's why it's fun to drink wine with someone else. sure, wine tastes like wine, but maybe this wine makes a certain part of your tongue tingle like it does when you eat a blackberry. so you say "getting notes of blackberry" either as an ironic faggot or a genuine faggot, but it's fun. then the person you're with says "I'm getting notes of cherry", and maybe you notice those notes too, and agree, or disagree. nobody's definitively right because it's ultimately subjective. it's a little back and forth, a sense that you can share with someone.

an anon here gave me this book rec and it's good, it's never steered me wrong. there's a good few chapters of writing at the front, and there's a chart at the back if you're finding pairings.

just because it's crashing in napa doesn't mean it's crashing everywhere
>>
>>21880776
It isn’t crashing but it’s been contracting for several years.
>>
>>21880776
wines that were 200 a few years ago are 400 now
doubt they'll ever drop back down to 200 but I hope lots of these conglomerates go bankrupt

I was in CA for work and saw giant burn piles everywhere of vines that were planted on the shittiest valley floor sites. Glad to see it.
>>
>>21880776
The market for expensive wine is growing, it's the goyslurp market that's contracting.
>>
>>21881210
I think it's more that wine is becoming more popular as an interest, but less popular as an everyday drink. You can still buy dirt cheap wine if you want it.
>>
>>21881213

What’re the top 5 red Italian grape varietals and is Montepulciano one of them?
>>
>>21881248
It better be. Prob top 2 for me.
>>21880776
Cause its DRC.
>>
>>21881236
You're correct. Your peers will be drinking wine when they get older, zoomie (unless you're a flyover).
>>
>>21881248
I would say Nebbiolo, Nerello Mascalese, Aglianico and Sangiovese are all better, but it might be number 5.
>>
>>21881248
1. nebbiolo
2. sangiovese
3. nerello
4. sagrantino
5. aglianco
I'd put montepulicano at 6 ahead of barbera at 7 followed by corvina, pelaverga and grignolino to round out the top 10.
>>
>>21875703
Wine is meant to be drunk watered down. the romans knew this. only poor people drank whine undiluted.

I’ve never bothered with these since they’re like $7 when I could get nuri, ortiz, or bella for cheaper and pic rel has even less fish due to the potatoes, but also that recipe sounds pretty good guess I’ll have to give em a shot
