I don't know if it's my preferred, but I got a bag of riceberry that I'm going to start using.

Literally came here to post this. My wife’s favourite.
I also really like Tilda Basmati rice too.

Best rice IMO

Pure, unprocessed rice is gluten free, retard.
>>
>>21885689
so why does the bag need to say that then? might as well also proclaim 'PLANT-BASED!'
>>
>>21885293
>>21885694
I've seen water bottles with "gluten free" on them, it's ridiculous.
>>
>>21884906
Rice is so fucking cheap it's amazing. For one month of rent I can get 1500KG of cooked rice. I wouldn't even be able to fit that into the apartment I'm renting.
>>

My go-to is Thai jasmine rice these days.
>>
When I was a rice snob it was all about brown jasmine or brown basmati. They are noticeably superior to American long grain except for the price. Now I don't give a fuck and just buy plain old white American long grain.

Cross contamination from wheat is extremely easy. The certification makes a difference for people with severe allergies
>>
>>21886051
Our local rice snob would sneer at you for not buying the freshest rice straight from Japan
>>
>>21886144
Really? From what I've read most rice snobs covet wild rice and could give a fuck about japonica. Also I remember the brand in OP picrel sold brown calrose that was noticeably good too. It went away during the pandemic.
>>
>>21886144
a real rice snob would understand each type of rice has different use cases, strengths and cons. it's very much like how certain pasta shapes are suited for different types of sauces like meat or alfredo

japanese rice for example is awful for fried rice but would be perfectly suitable for a risotto

There's a lot more to it, I admit he makes it sound pretty good but I'm not paying this much for rice
this is the place

I don’t care that’s it’s for sushi, short grain is best grain

>U.S NO. 1

Hope you're paying less than $1/lb because that's just white calrose rice.
>>
>>21886143
How?
Unless somebody is eating a sandwich near a conveyor belt there should be no contamination.
>>
>>21885694
Is this how you go through life? Just getting upset about small things that no one else seems to care about? What a pathetic way to live. Post some rice or shut the fuck up, pussy boy.
>>
>>21886184
>>21886160
us no.1 is just a grading system to determine how many broken grains, contaminants, and the uniformity of rice milling

nishiki does sell a rice very similar to calrose but not exactly. but yeah that anon is right, it's not short grain you're eating despite it being "sushi rice"
>>
>>21884906
Depends what I'm making, but for a GP rice I use picrel. I also keep 20lbs of Nishiki sushi rice. Super multi-purpose. Short grain, extra starchy. Makes better risotto than arborio. Sushi as well of course. Rice balls/onigiri too. Those are my two main go-tos for rice.

this brand of basmati is my favorite. it costs almost twice as much as other brands, but it really does taste better.

i also keep medium grain rice like nishiki
and jasmine rice in me pantry. love all three types of ricve

Does basmati rice have a certain smell? I feel like storing it for long periods of time gives it a certain off-aroma? I don't use it often so I'm curious if you two have experienced the same phenomenon

I've used zebra. I haven't noticed a difference in taste from Royal or Shan. If you like it, keep using it.

>>21886607
I go through about 3 20lb bags a year. I've never noticed any bad aromas, but I don't know what you mean by long storage times. Rice lasts for years if stored properly.
>>
almost a decade ago i purchased a bag of spanish bomba rice at what i considered an exorbitant price (9 euros/kilo). possibly the most satisfying grains i've ever had, it was almost like couscous. but i never repeated the purchase. the price seems to be double that now.
>>
>>21886607
It does but most people like it
Makes it harder to cook, though, if you're having issues with it just use jasmine rice

Look I know, I know. But it's really quite good rice, like a hybrid that's best of both worlds kind of thing.
