>basically just caramel chews that don't get stuck in your teeth and actually provide some nutritional benefits. Why don't more people eat these they're fucking perfect if you want to get off candy.
>>21914008A lot of people think they look gross or they're old people food that you eat because you're constipated. Prunes are great too.
>>21914008>get off candyjust swapping one addiction for another. that is not the way into heaven.
>>21914008No kidding. You can turn them into caramel, too with a few extra steps. Quite a few vegan desserts utilize them in interesting ways.
>>21914008>why don't I get dates?Heh
>>21914017I'd have to try them, I've quit my soda and junk food habits recently and been replacing them with fruits as snacks. I've been trying more fruit then just the standard apples/grapes/oranges/bananas that I'm used to to add a bit more variety, I've also had both dried and fresh figs, though I think I'd rather have those guys fresh.>>21914018I feel like it's a healthy substitute, I'm not actually a fat fuck since I'm not sedentary but I still want to eat better so my body doesn't fall apart.
>>21914008Try it with peanut butter.>>21914017Yeah its a dried plum. All fruit taste sweeter dehydrated as the sugars concentrate.
>>21914008>dieting hard trying to lose lovehandles>mom has a whole bowl of huge medjool dates>juicy fucking goodness, i eat 8 or more everyday>sis tells me to look up the calories>"nah its fine theyre just dates">but the truth is im afraid, i know the kcals arent negligible >end up logging 1 date in my app>75 cals>add 1 more>fucking 150>realised id been eating a ton every day thinking i was still within my kcal budget, fucking 500+ worth of sugary dates id blissfully enjoyed >now dawning on me the realisation that i will have to only enjoy 1 date a day, while dieting hard and ignoring a massive bowl of them in our living room. For months.I havent been this heart broken since finding out how much sodium was in my soy sauce
>>21914180>>75 cals>>add 1 more>>fucking 150>finding out how much sodium was in my soy sauceAnon, you might be a retard.
>>21914180wait until you chuck a handful of nuts in your counter
>>21914182fuck you how was i supposed to know a date was 75 bloody cals
>>21914185> eat a handful of peanuts> 500 caloriesfml
I use them to make Snickers overnight oats. >half a cup of oats>4 chopped dates >2 - 4 teaspoons of cocoa >Big spoonful of peanut butter >Half a cup of milk>Stir the shit out of it>Leave in the fridge overnight >Top with sliced banana and a big ole dollop of Greek yoghurt Sometimes I put 2 tablespoons of coconut in it when I mix it up, or use coconut instead of yoghurt or sometimes put coconut on top of the yoghurt. Also dates with peanut butter is a crazy good snack. Dip them in coconut if you want to level up.
>>21914267CO-CO-NUT
>>21914180Snakes is for activities
>>21914267bulking or just fat?
>>21914180can't help you with calories but if you're worried about sodium just buy a shaker of potassium salt substitute and use it when salting your food. you can basically ignore sodium if you know that you've also eaten an equal amount of potassium. target is 4700 mg of potassium a day to undo the effects of sodium which means you can eat as much of it as you want if you like salty food.
>>21914398Just know how to manage calories.
>>21914267If you love coconut have you tried cocobutter? You get shredded coconut (don't get unsweetened) and blend it in a highly powered blender until you get a runny paste. It'll solidify in the cold and liquify in the heat, just like coconut oil. Shits cash.
Don't kid yourself that they're a healthy alternative to sweets, because they aren't. If you do eat sweets already though, they are a tastier and better eating experience.People's thinking on sugar is all kinds of retarded. The sugar in these is still just sugar with all of the same effects as sugar from candy. Yes there's a different balance of sucrose, glucose, fructose, but if you have a problem with sugar already then even if you subbed all of your sugar into any of these sugars you'd still be eating way too much.
>>21914035>I feel like it's a healthy substituteDates are like 60% sugar, how is that healthy? You have less in fucking chocolate.
>>21914777Dates have more than just sugar. It is healthier than most candy.
>>21914777Absolutely incorrect. The sugar in fruit like dates is metabolically different from refined and processed sugars because of the nutrient matrix of the whole fruit. The fiber and bioactive compounds slows digestion and prevents rapid blood sugar spikes, unlike other sugars.
>>21914777>>21914808>>21914822You are all correct; you are not contradicting each other.Eating dates is obviously better than eating candy, but eating them in excess thinking that they cannot harm you is wrong.Like all foods, they should be consumed in moderation, and not like the other anon who ate a lot without realizing that they also have calories
>>21914808Sure, if you had to choose between eating only dates and only candy, dates would be better, but people don't eat like that.If you ate a big pile of candy and a few vegetables, you would not say that somehow made the candy healthier.>>21914822Fiber affects GI, but not as much as people think, and you need more of it than people assume (or hope). Also "fruit 'like' dates" is different to talking about dates in particular. The main difference with fruit as an overall category is simply that there is less sugar in the food. That isn't really true for dates specifically though. They contain a lot of sugar.I don't say this next part to be pedantic, so excuse me a little here: The sugar in the dates is not different from refined and processed sugar. They may be released (somewhat) slower but you should be clear on what you mean rather than claiming the sugars themselves are different. They are all glucose and fructose, or the mix of glucose and fructose - sucrose.
>>21914008For some reason all supermarkets only stock up on Deglet Nour, which i hate. I'm much more for Medjoul.
>>21914827>dates aren't better than candy>actually, they are>"you are both correct"
>>21914398That food actually has only whole food ingredients and a ton of fiber. It probably keeps him full and healthy.
>>21914880There was just a huge study done and fiber was the biggest single ingredient to make people feel less hungry. Fiber is very important.
>OP discovers fruit is sweet and tasty How fat and retarded are you?
>>21914891You need to work on your reading comprehension, Anonyou didn't even read the rest of my post
>>21914909Glycemic index isn't the same as hunger. Fiber only predicts about 10%-20% of glycemic response. People always assume it's a lot more, probably because they really really want to be able to eat sweet things like dates without feeling bad, and so just never check.Even if you ignore that and want to focus just on fiber and sugar, another thing about fiber in dates is that they are actually quite a bit less fibrous than other fruits when you weigh that against how much sugar they contain. They have more fiber than other fruits by weight (mostly because they're dried) but they also have a lot more sugar, about 6x as much as an apple, for example, but only about 2x as much fiber, so the sugar per fiber is 3x as high.If you want to feel full, eat whole undried fruits instead of dates. Dates are a really nice culinary experience, but they aren't really a healthy alternative to sweets. Whole undried fruits are.
>>21914008I love these. I always have. The only thing that spooks me are the pits and pit-bits. Shape as fuck.Be careful, and chew thoroughly to make sure you don't swallow the figurative shrapnel.
>>21914562lol fatty
>>21914801I'm not actually trying to cut back on sugar is the thing, but more so processed and "empty" foods. I'm not fat or anything, I walk to the grocery store and back as well as walk to almost every where else I go so I burn the calories. What I'm trying to do is substitute my snacks with things that actually give me the nutrients I need to live. Way I figure it, why eat a bag of skittles when I can eat an orange instead. Still sugary and tasty but I'm getting vitaman c out of it now.
>>21914008I had some medjool dates the other day and the texture is sumptuous. The skin feels almost like a very thin wafer, and the closest thing to the fruit I guess would be a soft jellybean. You can see the sugar crystals on it.
>>21914180If you are an overweight Levantine woman>SEXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODon't lose the weight :^)
>>21914186I was referring to your apparent surprise when you found out that 75+75=150 and that soy sauce was high in sodium, not that you didn't know the caloric content of a date
>>21914801>Dates are like 60% sugar, how is that healthy?A healthy food is determined by nutrient matrix potency and metabolic effects, not sugar.High sugar calorie-dense whole plant foods are healthy:ie. fruits are healthy and good for you
