I’m starting to realize why us Americans are getting so fat: restaurant portions are grossly oversized.

Wanted to eat out for lunch today for the first time in the new year, and I’m struggling to find a restaurant where literally everything on the menu doesn’t btfo my calorie budget. Ironically, fast food is easy to make work (but not what I want) because of how modular their menus are.

>just eat part of it and have leftovers!
I mean I can, but I shouldn’t have to. I should be able to order a normal amount of food for one person to eat in one meal.

>Woe is me they're giving me TOO MUCH food I wish they would give me much less and also charge me the same amount
You're european, aren't you?

Restaurants drown everything in butter and salt.
>>
>>21914471
whats your cal budget
>>
>>21914486
Wish they'd drown me
I want to die
>>
>>21914489
Less what’s already been budgeted for breakfast and dinner, I have 700 to play with for lunch.
>>
The restaurant isn't forcing you to finish your plate. There's nothing stopping you from eating only half the plate or whenever you feel full or whatever. It's not the restaurant's fault. It's your lack of self control. The blame falls solely upon you.
>>
>>21914471
I get you. They should absolutely have 2 portion sizes. At least restaurants like olive garden. Sure it's a good portion, but realistically id rather pay less and get a decent amount to fill me up there and not have to worry about leftovers.
>>
>>21914514
don't eat breakfast and dinner, simple as. i know that's probably too complicated for you though
>>
>>21914471
Order less. Its a you problem.
>>
>>21914538
>OMAD
Sorry, I’m not a knuckle dragger.
>>
>>21914560
>order 1 thing
>1 thing is too big
I see reading is a subject you struggle with.
>>
It's an american thing where people's opinion on a restaurant is often based on how much food you get. Went to Europe this winter and when I ordered something I got a meal that I could finish without forcing myself of feeling disgusting.
Here in the US I've just accepted that I'll eat half of it and the rest will be tomorrow's lunch
>>
>>21914476
>I wish they would give me much less and also charge based on that adjusted amount
Is what he said, fatso.
>>
>>21914560
Just go to restaurants that aren't there to cater to people who are looking to get a couple meals out of a meal.
You know if every burger is a 1/2 lb burger stacked with bonus meats and with a basket of fries you're probably not gonna find a small sandwich.
Instead go to either those lower tier restaurants that basically have quick made sandwiches already made or those higher tier restaurants that put a lot of effort into every course.
>>
>>21914565
>sorry, i'm a widdle baby that has a cranky tantrum if i don't eat every 6 hours on the dot
got it. like i said, too complicated for you.
>>
>>21914471
Yeah that's true. I tend to just treat it as two meals most of the time. If you think of it that way, it's more like getting value for your money.
>>
>>21914593
>I pig out once a day because I'm fat and call it OMAD
You aren't superior for eating once a day. 2 meals a day is fine, 3 is good if they're small, some people even do 5-6 small meals a day.
Make sure you clean your trough daily after gorging
>>
>>21914600
>You aren't superior for eating once a day.
never said i was kiddo. i was simply giving you a solution to the problem that you clearly can't adapt to because you have a toddler tantrum after 6 hours because your blood sugar drops. look i get it. i've been around people like you. my first gf was the exact same way and couldn't handle going without eating more than 6 hours. but don't take it out on people that don't have your crippling ailment.
>>
>>21914607
>never said i was kiddo.
If you called him a widdle baby who throws tantrums and don't think that of yourself then you did say that, anon.
>>
>>21914607
>never said i was kiddo.
hey sport, you don't mind me calling you a condescending nickname, do you chief?
Atta boy, slugger, I knew you wouldn't care because it just reflects negatively back on me, right tiger?

I had a half-sandwich/soup combo. Delicious and worth it. Both were things I would not make myself.

You know... I often wonder if the retardation jokes on this site are just that: jokes. And then every so often one of you proves it to be true. Today that's you. This is a take-home box. Where you can take home the portion of the meal you didn't eat. This can help you with portion control you fat little retard. Just have your mom ask for one.
>>
>>21915396
>I had a half-sandwich/soup combo
Pretty normal lunch. If you are really reducing overal calories down to 700, soup and salad is even safer.
>>
>>21914567
Mexican places have ala carte, if you want less youre doing it wrong.

ive said this for years. americans are fat because they eat too much. they are too focused on inane dietary differences and not on how much food theyre shoving into their mouths.

ive been to the USA twice and both times we had to take armfuls of food back to the hotel fridge because it was impossible to eat what we were given. most of it got thrown out. its too much.

You're the one placing the order, dumbass. Tell them you're a fat fuck who can't stop eating everything in sight and only want half portions.
>>
>>21914471
My ass.
When we went to Europe my parents were over weight Americans I was a skinny dude. We left every day out with a doggy bag of food. That was generally the result of some table bread and appetizer and a meal for each person. No one ever though giving us a little bag was odd or anything. Also only really 2 meals a day so not like we were doing 3 a day. Just a little extra food.
It's like anything its never going to be in perfect balance, just that no one wants to go out to eat and always getting less than enough so portions are slightly too large, enough that some people will take home some food.
>>
>>21918713
you have never left your tennesse town billybob.
>>
>>21918720
Ok. Evidence should be presented if you say such things.
>>
Just be active or take some home to go.

Lazy people want people that actualy do things to starve.

>> I sit on my ass all day and consider lightly browsing a retail store activity. Therefore restaurants need to accomodate a starvation diet.

Like eat one less meal on days you eat out.

>>I almost got fat eating more than my crumpetes and tea.

Imagine being a muscular man and needing to order three things or starving. >>That'll be $60 plus tip for lunch.

Yeah, no.
>>
You know what the issue is?

Women.
They need 1/3-1/2 the calories.
So meals balanced around either sex are unfit for the other.
>>
>>21914569
>I sure hope restaurants can simply make less profit
is what he said.
>>
>>21914471
>I’m starting to realize why us Americans are getting so fat: restaurant portions are grossly oversized.
this is NOT a new thing. back in the 1800 a guy wrote about how large the portions of food were in America. also large portions are not an American thing it is all over the world.

I feel you. The most fucking annoying thing is when you just want some nachos with a beer at a bar or something, ok $12 or $16 for a bowl of nachos, ezpz, done deal.
Then they come out with a fucking hood off of a Ford Ranger-sized plate stacked high with enough nachos to feed 18 people.

Then all the actual meals intended for 1 person start in the $30-40 pricerange.

>>

Food in the US is cheap, labor is expensive. Restaurant food costs are mostly labor, and cooking two servings of a dish takes as much labor as cooking one, so portions are big enough that restaurant food seems like a good value.
>>
go to a steakhouse
>>
>>21919463
Yes shlomo. Less profit.
>>
>>21914569
NTA but the reason for big portions is that the actual ingredients (and related volume costs) are probably not that big of a % of the restaurant costs compared to rent, capital investments, and a lot of fixed cost labor like managers. So huge portions can be a small marginal expenditures that make a lot of customers happy and willing to shell out. It's not some irrational drive.

This isn't a jewish thing. If you think restaurant owners are making incredible money, you're a complete doofus.
