Don't fuck with the king

I eat two tins of sardines in olive oil, and one tin of smoked oysters per week for health reasons. I despise them. Hoping I eventually start to enjoy them.

I can't find them anywhere, not the EVOO tins at least. I finally found a shop selling them in water snd I bought them all. They're not as good but they sure beat the Chicken of the Sea and other value brands I have been eating the past couple months

I was really excited to try these when i saw them at my local shop. Kinda mushy and gross desu i was hugely disappointed. did i just get a bad can?
>>
>>21917492
They should be tender but not mushy. They aren't as hearty as the bigger sardines and they're best eaten as-is or lightly tossed in a marinade.

Do you guys eat the bones? Feels too weird for me. I haven't tried it.
>>
>>21917495
the spine? it has a nice soft texture. plus i imagine it contains a lot of the good nutrients.
>>
>>21917495
The brislings have such tiny, brittle bones you don't even notice them. The bigger ones yeah I usually remove the spines.
>>
>>21917492
Get the boneless skinless KO in regular olive oil they’re much more firm although not nearly as flavorful. Those ones will come with 3-4 filets of larger species deenz

I stopped eating deenz because my local grocery store stopped packing 99 cent in house brands :( Now the cheapest option is fucking €2.85 or something with fucking tomato sauce because the olive oil ones are always sold out grrr!!! Maybe I should look in to ordering them online in bulk from some Chinese website or something.

So i tried smoked oysters and they did have the green stuff in it lol. They were good but it was constantly on the back of my mind. Don't think I'll eat them again.

Anyone Screencast the recipe some guy shared on here with deenz and eggs? I'll check the catalog tomorrow if no one remembers. I just can't be bothered right now.

I was eating these a lot until I read that the canning process can introduce a lot of heavy metals into the food such as mercury, which sort of defeats the purpose of eating small fish if that's something you're watching out for.
>>
i used to eat these alot until i discovered that part of the process of sealing them in a can introduces bacteria like niggaspeciosa niggashitoccocus virus, which can be deadly to humans, and also the fish is caught using a method called meth nigger schadenfreude nigger butthole boiling where they actually capture the sardines in nigger buttholes and then subject them to intense pressure and heat, just wanted to let yall know if thats something relevant

Sure but extra gets added via the canning process.

>>21934063
Canned sardines are processed in that they are changed from their natural state by having heavy metals added to them by the canning process. 100% agree with you that sardines as they naturally occur have near non-existent mercury levels, but the canned sardines you eat are probably not at that level. "Naturally occurring sardines are low in mercury so my canned ones definitely are too" is a retarded meme that needs to die and I'm personally killing it on /ck/.

Maybe in the third world. High quality canned deenz and herring use non-soldered steel cans. It’s why I don’t buy or eat canned food made by thirdies.

You’ll probably think I’m a sick freak for this, but a bbq ham and pineapple pizza with anchovies is a flavor bomb too.

i think this would be really good, depending on the bbq sauce you use. I'd probably add some red onion or jalapeno, in case the bbq sauce and pineapple skewed it too sweet. I'll have to try this.

add some acidity to cut out the fatty flavor. lemon juice + mint will make a huge difference. Could add some chili peppers too if you like spice. This is how i often have them myself.

Greetings, deenzcells! I come before you humbled, querant, pescatarian.
I would like to eat a sandwich of sardines and mustard; but being only recently converted, I don't know how to do it. Points of contention:
>Do I mash the sardines up, or do I leave them whole? If I do mash them up, do I add the mustard before or after?
>Do I need mayonnaise? I've also been exploring canned salmon salad over rice; it's like an asian thing. So mayonnaise on the deenz feels redundant
>what vegetables compliment a deenz and mustard sandwich? Rather, what should be avoided?
Assistance with these matters would be greatly appreciated, alongside any other
>Deenz Lore(TM, LLC, PhD).
>>
>>21917279
The problem with deenz is they reek.
>>
>>21944361
For a sandwich personally I’d mash, mix with the mustard, and then spread, especially if the sardines were packed in oil.

I don’t feel like mustard and pickles go together but I like sardines and chopped pickles. Sometimes I’ll have sardines with chopped pickles and a touch of mayo in a toasted tortilla.
>>
>>21944361
Mash them with mustard and mayo. If you like some zing and the mustard’s mild, consider a shake of hot paprika.
>>
>>21942190

Is it pretty fishy? I’ve never tried it but have seen it before.

Sardinelet here but I think the differences mainly are what liquid it’s packed in, where it’s fished from, and whether or not it’s a European Pilchard (or a different sardine, sprat, or herring)

maybe less than or equal to canned crab at worst, but it's cold. the wine sauce also has thin shredded onion floating around the sauce is pretty acidic with a little sweetness. really good with some Tabasco or pickled peppers.

What's so great about the European pilchard?

The only thing that belongs on a proper chovy za is chovies and a very solid neapolitan sauce/cheese/dough base. Maybe onions and basil or other herbs and it should preferably be a little scorched. It's one of those toppings that deserves to be presented with minimal interference.

That's what I do for lunch almost every day, gotta go heavy on the olive oil to get a nice paste, I top with dill lemon juice and pepper when I have them. It's by far the lowest effort lunch you can have, which is why I do it. Lunch is gay, dinner and breakfast are what I live for.

The main point for every day deenz is packing liquid. Beach cliff and other hobo brands are packed in a cocktail of disgusting goy oils (goils) and chemicals, while decent deenz should be packed in pure olive oil or at the very least, brine. There's also various sauces, cheap ones have your dollar store corn syrup tomato sauce, but sauces can also get quite fancy too.

After that it's quality of fish. Just like any other fish, species and location are key.

Overall it's a bit like wine. The cheapest decent fish you can get packed in a good olive oil is going to be the the best quality to price ratio. It's like wine, if you're an enthusiast you will get a lot out of the complexity of something fancy, but at the end of the day it's musty grapes/canned meat. A $30 bottle of reputable French Pinot will give you 90% of what the wine world has to offer. King Oscar is probably the deenz equivalent. For that extra 10 percent you have to get obsessed. For me, it's Season because I eat a fuck ton of deenz and want them to be cost effective, but when you're feeling special there are many treats to explore.

DEENZ DEENZ
THEY'RE GOOD FOR YOUR HEART
THE MORE YOU EAT THE MORE YOU FART

I put these on a saltine with tobacco sauce. Awesome snack, but your breath is ass for the rest of the day.

It seems like the high end are harvested in specific regions and are more prized species of deenz. They'll have higher quality control. Some of the low end mackerel tins look like someone had a rough day at the office.

Whatever the brands choose to prepare them with seems like marketing and preference to my eyes. Results might not directly track price point, so have fun!

Seeing this thread not long after it was made drove me to try some canned sardines and I think I might have made a grave mistake, because I can't get enough of these things now. Why have I not been eating this shit my entire life? I've always liked canned tuna and I enjoy fish even though I rarely eat it.
I've King Oscar, Chicken of the Sea and the SaveMart brand tins so far in a couple of different styles (olive oil, smoked oil, mustard sauce) but when I next go to Costco I'm planning on buying some Wild Planet cases to see if they're any good since it seems like a good price-for-quality deal. Chicken of the Sea and the SaveMart brand were about a dollar a tin but the quality wasn't great. The Oscars are really good, I just got a twelve pack of the cracked pepper and oil tins, but they're pricey enough that I don't think they can be a staple buy at the rate I'm eating them.

you literally can't eat too much deens
>>
>>21950892
Ayyy nice, iirc the Wild Planet are a Pacific species, Costco should also have Season brand and those are an Atlantic species if you want to compare.

Also both occasionally go on sale and if you like one of them the coupon quantity limit is only per warehouse per day

I dont really like oysters either. I get the 1 dollar oysters at whole foods every week, they even shuck them for you if you ask. I just put hot sauce on it and swallow it whole
