are these just cheat codes to dieting?
>over 20g of protein in just 100 grams, easily pair with meats
>whole daily intake of fibre in 100 grams
>only 350 cals per 100
>easiest vegetable to cook into anything
>or simple seasoned soup in 20 minutes
>extremely malleable taste profile
>can be stored anywhere
>just hot water is all you need to use it
>cheap as shit
what the fuck im going to reach my goal in like 6 months because of these things, there has to be a catch

Dieting is a mental illness, you effeminate piece of shit

It's more like 300g because it absorbs water during cooking. It's still good for you though. I like them but can't digest it well :(

The calories stay the same anyway so it makes no difference saying 100grams dry/300 cooked

Yes but it's a big difference in weight and volume. OP may not have meant it that way but some people use the nutritional information for dry beans to be misleading when comparing it to other foods.
>>
>>21920120
i never get that, why wouldnt a person assume whatever weight/cal is always measured in dry, and not wet, especially when it comes to plant related shit like legumes and seeds. Youd obviously weigh them dry THEN cook it into a soup and eat, weighing it after wetting doesnt make sense youre dealing with the water and whatever else you included in that soup. Lentils take like 10 mins to soften in a boil so you don't need to leave them soaking for ages like chickpeas, dry is common sense
like we all weigh
>>
>>21920095
I honestly wish i liked them. I hate their texture, flavor is shit too
Clearly some people like it but they ruin the whole dish to me :(
>>
>>21920095
Lentils are great until you have them for the third time in two weeks. At that point you realize, that when eaten frequently, they are one of the most soul-killing foods you can eat. It becomes depressing too cook them. Depressing to serve them. Depressing to eat them. Depressing to put them in the fridge to eat as leftover. Fuck lentils
>>
the protein is low quality but lentils are basically the reason Indians are kept alive
>>
A grain that's high in protein and fiber is going to digest super slow. So >>21920106 isn't that far off as you might get bubble gut if you don't eat them in a balanced meal.
>>
>>21920168
>I hate their texture
Use a blender until they're smooth when you're making a soup
>>
>>21920165
It was a problem when people were comparing dry beans to fresh meat or something similar so it made beans seem more nutritious than they really are.

Yep! I used to eat them with rice, as is the norm, but when I embarked on my weight loss journey, I started eating them with chicken instead
>>
100g rice and 100g red lentils
Boil together for maybe 15 minutes
Add some spices and garlic
You just cooked enough food for 4-5 big meals, for maybe $1 total cost.
And that's why there are so many Indians
>>
>>21920106
that's because of all the bread, rice and ghee
>>
I prefer brown or green lentils because they cook at the exact same time as rice. You can put them both in the rice cooker and press a button and they're done when it beeps.

Red lentils are a bit too small to cook like that. They turn to mush by the time the rice is done.

If you can take the gas. Sure
>>

Aksually the gut microbiome adapts to the diet. If you eat them once, you'll get gas. If you make'm part of your regular diet, your gut will adapt to digest them.
>>
>>21920831
It seems to depend on the person and the specific food. I don't really get gas from pinto beans but chickpeas will keep giving me gas no matter how many times I eat them.
>>
>>21920095
Brown/green lentils are harder/have a nicer texture and can be stewed unlike these ones. I usually soak a cup of them in cold water, sautee some chopped peppers, carrots, potatoes, onion, garlic and sausage, throw in some salt, pepper and a tablespoon of sweet paprika before throwing in the lentils, covering the mix with water and simmering for 45 mins or so until they're soft but not bursting.

The American gut biome must be a mystery of modern medicine. Pulses like lentils, chickpeas and beans are staple foods around the planet and nobody else has these problems with gas

>Pulses like lentils, chickpeas and beans are staple foods around the planet and nobody else has these problems with gas
Yes they do, retard. Cultures that rely on them as staples will often use herbs and spices with them that help reduce gas for that reason.
>>
>>21922543
>spices that reduce gas include ginger, fennel, cumin, coriander, and turmeric
Yep all standard spices in the average Indian meal
>>
>>21920095
i should eat them more often, lentils are delicious.
up there with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and potatoes

Behold, the bean recipe of the average Mexican, for whom beans are a staple:
>beans
>water
>onion (optional)

I think it does come down to what you’re used to eating. Your gut manages legumes just fine if you eat them often.
