Is this a good beer for first time drinkers?
>>
>>21920576
no, start with something lighter that has little hops (=isnt bitter as fuck)
>>
>>21920576
If it get's you properly plastered then I would say yes.
>>
>>21920576
It's a stout.

If you want to try what stout tastes like, then drink it.

If you want to try just "beer" start with a Coors light.
>>
>>21920576
I recommend it but only under these circumstances:
>on tap (so in a pub)
>fresh (so there's enough consumption of it in the pub currently to have it fresh)
otherwise the experience isn't half as good
>>
>>21920576
I think it just kinda tastes like slightly bitter water. A better stout might be Samuel smiths oatmeal stout or something with a little extra adjunct in there. Obsidian stout or foreign extra might be a better first straight stout desu senpai. Guinness draught kinda sucks
>>
>>21920590
>4.2%
>>
>>21920589
>no, start with something lighter that has little hops (=isnt bitter as fuck)
Guinness isn't overtly hops so it would not contain the same flavours as a brown ale.

>>21920603
>I think it just kinda tastes like slightly bitter water.
Nah.
I like the other suggestions but not everybody can get hold of British stouts.

In response to OP, it's worth trying a glass (half a pint) just to see what you think but it's not representative of beers in general.
Most people start off with lagers and take it from there.
>>
>>21920974
Compared to most other dry stouts? Yeah it's pretty tasteless
>>
>>21920977
>Compared to most other dry stouts? Yeah it's pretty tasteless
I think 'mild' is the word you are looking for, it goes down easy and is a good intro to stouts.
If the like the taste of Guinness, then it's worthwhile looking for some better stouts but like I said, not everybody has access to the good stuff.
Some have more of a coffee flavour and some are liquorice but it's too heavy for somebody starting out.
>>
>>21920982
I kind of agree that it's a bit watery tasting. It's possible someone might try it and feel the same way and dislike it, and think all stouts are like that. Their extra varieties are good though.
>>
>>21920991
>Their extra varieties are good though.
If you mean 'Their' as in Guinness branded stuff, I wouldn't know.
If I go into a 'Spoons, I might have a pint of Guinness (they keep the prices pretty low) but if I wanted a decent stout, I would go to the Offy and get some but it wouldn't be Guinness brand.

In any event - If I am out I tend to drink Old Speckled Hen anyway.
>>
>>21920576
Yes.
>>
>>21920576
No. Either a generic lager like a Tuborg or a pils like Urquell is a better entry point.
>>
>>21920982
Nah I nailed it with tasteless. Id recommend left hand nitro milk stout before Guinness. That's a mild easy to enjoy stout imo
>>
>>21920576
is this the meme one with a plastic ball filled with nitrogen
>>
>>21920590
It'd take a 12 pack to get the average man even a little tipsy, assuming you're not a 90 lb limpwristed flambe.
>>
>>21921131
You're going to stick with this' tasteless' thing whatever I say, perhaps you have a problem with your tastebuds?
I have already said it's not the best stout going but a mild introduction to newbies. Enough.
>>
>>21921165
>Enough.
it's not that serious just because someone has a different opinion
>>
>>21921167
I have partially agreed with you on multiple occasions . . .FFS - give it a rest.
>>
>>21920576
I like it, but there is a lot of variety in beer and Guinness represents a very specific type (dry stout)
Even among stouts you can get much sweeter ones that some would prefer
>>
>>21921165
Nah it's just a tasteless stout. That's why it's so popular. It's the coors light of a few countries
>>
>>21920576
No. It's not a good representation of what most beers are like at all. But I enjoy it. It's an acquired taste. Even more than starter lagers.
>>
>>21921135
>I'm an alcoholic, and anyone drinking less than me or feeling it is a pussy.
>>
>>21921165
Depends on what people like. Guinness has very little sweetness, a milk stout might actually be more approachable for the average person
>>
>>21921187
You made up a scenario in your head. That's smart.
>>
>>21921193
How many times do I have to say this?

What stout is more readily available, Guinness or speciality stouts?
>>
>>21921198
Entirely depends on the country or even state
>>
>>21921206
>Entirely depends on the country or even state
You realise that /ck/ has more posters that live around the world . . .as opposed to people who can only get decent stouts within a 30 mile radius of a small village brewery in Dorset?

Grow up.

Only a degenerate boozehead makes comments like "anyone who gets a mild buzz after twelve Guinness is a flaming fag".
It takes one to know one. When I was a projecting alcoholic I'd make comments like that.
>lol, what 24-pack? We need at least a keg! We have real drinking to do.

I hope you get the help you need. The ride doesn't last forever and it gets very bumpy at the end.
>>
>>21921213
You misread my post. I was jokingly implying that a low ABV beer would take many to get the average person intoxicated. The guy I replied to was talking about "getting properly plastered." I rarely drink.
>>
>>21921218
NTA
You do realise that British Pints are larger than American pints?

Forget the ABV . . . .a night out drinking with the lads and you could not handle 12 pints. I reckon you would be stumbling home after 8 and promising you would never drink again.
>>
>>21921218
No, the average person would be drunk after 4 or 5. Even at less than 5% ABV.
If you're not a drunkard you're just really ignorant about drinking volumes. Since you rarely drink I guess you don't keep track.
I dare you to drink 12 Guinness and not be hammered.
>>
>>21921198
Everyone has a random micro stout around at this point. Probably not the same one, but it doesn't really matter
>>
>>21921212
Nigger have you ever been to the states? I see left hand way more frequently than Guinness. At bars and it's in every liquor store, even the pajeet ran ones. Hell I see a specific local stout more often than Guinness on beer lists. I'm sorry Guinness draught sucks. Idk what to tell ya other than to get over it.
>>
>>21921284
Yes I have been to the states, lots of times but American beers are nothing as good as Euro beers, don't even try to tell me otherwise.
Keep waving your flag but you fail dramatically.
>>
>>21921295
You genuinely have no clue what you're talking about then and probably had no clue what to look for while you were here. The US makes just as good, and a lot of times better, versions of any style you could ask for from your homeland. The whole euro superiority meme has been dead and buried. Especially with beer
>>
>>21920589
Guinness has almost no hops you retard, most stouts are malt-forward with only the bare minimum of hops. Guinness is probably one of the sweetest, maltiest and least hoppy beers you can buy in a supermarket.
>>
>>21921335
>You genuinely have no clue what you're talking about
I have not been brainwashed by American Exceptionalism if that's what you mean?

American Bread, Cheese, Beer and food standards are a worldwide joke . .. .sorry to burst your bubble.
>>
>>21921223
>>21921224
It takes three Steel Reserve 40s for me to get buzzed. Am I fucked?
>>
>>21921365
Not the guy you're pissing with, but America is enormous. There are many, many good bakeries, cheeses, and beers, I assure you. On the other hand, the size of the place practically mandates a whole mess of shit to go along with the good stuff. It's not all Budweiser, Kraft Singles, and Wonder Bread. That shit is reserved for poor people, rednecks who don't know any better, or guilty pleasures. I don't know where you're from, but I'm not so ignorant to assume you only have [insert country stereotype] and not whatever you consider good.
>>
>>21921369
You could drink those all night and you might be a bit tipsy but go out drinking on a pub crawl with a bunch of Brit lads and you wouldn't last long, even at 5% ABV
A pint or two would be swallowed and it's off to the next pub good luck keeping up, my guess is, you would last long.

>>21921375
> but America is enormous.
So you never tire of telling us.

> It's not all Budweiser, Kraft Singles, and Wonder Bread.
And you think Brits eat Toast sandwiches, Jellied eels and beans on toast everyday?
Get real?
>>
>>21921406
Read the last part of my post. I don't shit on any country's food because I know they all have something worth eating, and if I lived the rest of my life I'd never get a chance to try them all (but I would like to). You're getting defensive. Judging by your post I'm assuming you're British. I've had plenty of great British/English (what's the fucking difference anyway?) food. Full English breakfast, meat pies, black pudding. Christ, Marmite is one of my favorite condiments and people in my life are probably tired of hearing me tell them to add it to everything.
>>
>>21921365
We literally make the best cheese in the world and some of the best beers in the world. You're just dumb. America is good at a long of things and it's hard for euros to accept it for some reason
>>
>>21921420
You seem reasonable and open to decent debate but I also have to contend with muppets who refuse to accept anything apart from internet dogma . . .such as >>21921428
>>
>>21921436
Look it up ya fuckin idiot. You're just wrong and don't like it
>>
>>21921442
I don't blame you . . .it's down to the way you were 'educated' and brainwashed.
I don't know how to break it to you but there is a world that exists outside of the USA, maybe one day you will discover it.
>>
>>21921451
I forgot you need a license to Google anything. Sorry m8
>>
>>21920576
it's not a good beer for any time drinkers.
>>
>>21921458
I'm not your mate.
>>
>>21920576
Guinness Draught Stout? Yes. It's pretty mild.
Guinness Extra Stout? No. It's bitter as fuck. I'm an experienced beer drinker and I don't even like it because it's bitter as fuck.
>>
>>21921473
>. I'm an experienced beer drinker
With all due respect you are not that experienced.
Stout is not flavoured by bitter hops, it's by malted barley.

I question your 'experience'.
>>
>>21921493
Stout does have hops in it, some stouts more than others. Guinness Extra Stout is on the hoppier side of stouts and hoppier than Guinness Draught Stout.
A good example of a really hoppy, popular stout is Old Rasputin, which I am not very fond of as I'm not very fond of hoppy beers.
>>
>>21921498
I disagree.

If you ever wanted a hop flavour, try an English Bitter, it is VERY different than any Stout which isn't predominantly hops.
>>
>>21921511
>I disagree.
You're disagreeing with a fact. That's not how disagreeing works.
It is a fact that stouts have hops in them.
You know what wasn't a fact? You know what was a factually incorrect statement?
>Stout is not flavoured by bitter hops
That was a factually incorrect statement.
Is it primarily flavored by hops? No. Is it as predominantly flavored by hops as some other styles of beer? No.
It is factually flavored by hops, though.
Now kneel and apologize for being wrong on the internet.
>>
>>21921473
Extra stout is good though. I'm not an expert on beer flavors but regular feels too watery flavor vise, extra is more flavorful and i think it might have co2, no?
>>
>>21921583
That retard has been wrong this entire thread. Good luck
>>
>>21921602
It's definitely more flavorful than Draught, which is too watery for my taste as well, I just don't like hoppy beers. I prefer high-ABV imperial stouts that are on the maltier/sweeter side when it comes to stouts, like, say, Lagunitas Willettized Coffee Stout.
And yeah, Extra has CO2 whereas Draught has nitrogen.
>>
The word "hoppy" makes me really mad. I don't know why.
>>
>>21920576
My first bear was a Guinness draft can

No. Start with lighter beers like blond ales and the like. Then start with reds or browns and then try out stouts. Dark beer isn't for everyone.
>>
>>21921950
Guinness is really mild and watery IMO, especially in a can. Doesn't have much flavor at all.
>>
>>21920576
Domestic US Guinness ingredients are dogshit as any of the national brand mass produced stuff. Actual Export Guinness or a bar with the proper nitro pour? Tasty. Try the extra stout in the funny Red Stripe bottles.
>>
>>21921982
k. Like I said its not for everyone.
>>
>>21920576
It's ok but boddingtons is better in my opinion
>>
>>21921365
Okay no need to tell lies you eurofaggot. I'm willing to accept some poor italian village were they still go barefoot to stomp and press grapes into wine is a hundred times better than American wine. But don't for a second think that American food is inferior. Don't be delusional
>>
>>21922580
>Don't be delusional
he wasn't he was telling the truth
