Sakai is not a French cook. He's not Japanese either. He just repeats the same small amount of specific techniques, ingredients, and dishes over and over. Its mostly Japanese and French but he can't even do alot of the French things every other French chef can, or alot of the Japanese things every other Japanese chef can. Its a weird French chef LARP.

He's an OK Iron Chef tho

It’s weird because Kenichi is supposedly a far more one-note chef (Sichuan cuisine being very limited by design) and yet he seemed to create far more varied dishes than Sakai.
