No need to get into details but I haven't shopped for meat in a very long time so idk wtf is really a deal or not. What are the average prices for meat so I know what's really a deal and what can wait? Pic rel for my local grocer.
if only your government released an official document regularly displaying the average prices for every cut of meat sold across the country by region
>>21922871>What are the average prices for meatobviously you do not know how averaging works. do you want the average price of ALL meat? that would be around $100 per pound taking in to account A5 Wagyu.or did you want the average price of select grade meat?or the average price of prime?for what region, state, or city?or maybe you meant the average price for a specific store? do you want that to include mexican meat prices?or you stupid useless fuck you can just go online and get the current ad for a local store. you lazy piece of shit.
>>21922944He's talking about normal meat you sperg
>>21922871Anything above $5.99/lb is a fucking scam
>>21922944I'm not the anon who made the snarky remark about the USDA retail price reports, but honestly the link ought to be in the /ck/ sticky.https://www.ams.usda.gov/market-news/retail
>>21922974> /ck/ having a stickyYou must be new here
>>21922981I could have sworn... ok, you got me.
>>21922955>>21922974Thanks
>>21922871Ads like this remind me of going grocery shopping with my mum as a kid
>>21923090Same. They used to have candies in the bulk bin and I'd grab a couple and snack on them
I just bought 10lb of tri-tip at $5.99/lb. I've never bought this much meat before in one sitting.I've portioned half to freeze and the other half I want to do a crock pot roast. Any recommendations for recipe for crock pot tri tip roast? Otherwise I'm just gonna throw it in there on low for like 5 hours with some onions carrots and potatoes half way through.
>>21923105Tri tip is delicious and thats a damn good deal but I've yet to prepare it myself. Had it recently and it seems like you wouldn't need to get too fancy with it in terms of preparation other than salt and pepper. Dipping it in its juices is delicious.
>>21922871it really depends where you live dude. meat prices can vary significantly between countries, country subdivisions, and even cities. just pay attention to the prices of meat when you go shopping, look at different stores, compare flyers. you will eventually get a notion for what the average prices are where you live.
>>21923105Was it really $5.99/lb even though the ad says $5? Stuff like that really pisses me off when they advertise like that.Remember to sear each side of the meat before crocking it. Throw in some red wine and worch sauce with the beef stock to give more flavor. Add italian seasoning.Check the temperature of the meat as it progresses, don't wait a full 5 hours before checking or it may end up completely over done.
I got some bone- in strip steaks for $8/lb and i think thats a pretty good deal, a nice thick steak for under $10“Usda canner” which i’ve never seen before
See if you can find boneless chicken leg or thigh. Bone-in thigh will usually have a decent amount of meat, but bone-in leg and wings are mostly bone and are a ripoff. Do not buy if more than 1.99/lb and wait for a sale. Beef is a ripoff always. The only truly cheap animal protein in the US is dozen eggs. Buy eggs.
>>21922871Most beef that's not ground is like $9-$14/lb. now. WTF is "beef cured meat"? lolGood price on short ribs I guess. But I wait for sales and big meat events where it's like $5-$6/lb. That's a decent price on pork chops. I just got a family pack of those. And $0.99 for the leg quarters is good too. Fill the freezer.I buy prawns at that price. About $14 for 2 lbs. for my surf and turfs.
>>21923105I do this every 6 months. You're going to love it. I don't do roasts though. Tri-tip makes great steaks.
>>21923195>bone-in leg and wings are mostly bone and are a ripoff.you mean chicken quarters? yeah I find they're not great for eating on their own, they're good for making soup though. roast em, collect the fat for frying later, then you have lots of bones to make stock and enough meat for a pot of soup. in addition to chicken pieces like you mentioned, look for pork loin and tenderloin, it's usually a good price. you can cut the loin down into chops or roast it. agreed that beef usually isn't worth it, unless you can find it on special. you can treat yourself to a steak or roast once in awhile if you want but meh. sub ground beef for ground pork or turkey, it's cheaper and just as good once you season it and dress it up. I don't really know what price per lb to look for, I just compare flat prices around stores where I live.
>>21923110It's my favorite cut for roasting and slicing for french dip.
>>21923136>prices can vary significantly between countries, country subdivisions, and even cities.I forget that sometimes. At least country/state/city-wise.
>>21923196Yea I ended up stocking up on the chicken quarters. Got 4 of them, got some catfish pieces for 2.50 a point and some chopped beef for tacos. Should easily last me 2 weeks, on top of other stuff I have already.
>>21923218I haven't had a French dip yet, but I couldn't only imagine how good they are if the mest is prepared right.
>>21923148No it was actually $5/lb, I misremembered when I typed the post and didn't fix it.
>>21923208Yeah I meant the quarters with no thigh attached. I've noticed that bone-in chicken thighs go on sale more often than boneless and not as a mark down either. (Never buy markdowns unless you enjoy risking your gut biome or you're as experienced as a dumpster diver.) Beef I've discovered can be worth if and when you can find it ungraded, which is a gamble quality wise. I've had good luck with ungraded beef though.
>>21922871We have /bmg/ bulk meat general on the board if you want to ask the best way of saving on meat where you are.
>>21923270I'll keep that in mind next time I go shopping.
>>21922944Autism speaks. No one cares.
>>21923196>WTF is "beef cured meat"? lolCorned beef, I would assume
