I've tried to get into tofu, simply for economic reasons. I did air fry it and put into stuff like tikka masala, texture never felt right.

this is actually my first time doing this. it does not look appetizing but does smell like fried vittles. it tastes very bland and it's not as crispy as it sounds when stirred. I'm gonna give this one a 2/5. I'm gonna put it back in the air fryer with some sesame oil and soy sauceto see if the flavor improves.

Just use a pan, or wok. Throw your shitty air fryer away.

yeah I bought half a cow last year but it's just about gone now. think I might buy 2 pigs this year because beef is crazy expensive.

anyway adding soy sauce and sesame oil took this from a 2/5 to a solid 1.5/5. I might try making a sweet and sour sauce and just coating the whole batch in it just to choke it down but this has been a real kick in the balls.

I'm jellie of your kitty and freezer. I have a chest freezer but I like that style better.
I feel like sitting tofu would be an easy way to crisp it so you can just drizzle it in teriyaki and eat. Tofu is a pretty mild thing even after browning it

I highly recommend the stand up freezer. I have a chest freezer as well but it's basically just for overflow now. The upright is so nice. And I love my kitty she's the best kitty in the world.

And yeah idk if I'll be buying tofu again. it wasn't that cheap and it tastes worse than meat. not sure who this stuff is for.
>>
>>21923671
So you're baking it. Got it.

Because there really is no "air frying". Sad that you don't have a proper oven.
>>
>>21923692
>vittles

Doesn't that just mean "food"? Your baked soy curd smells like fried food? Congratulations, your nose is broken.

THIS!

A lot of processed garbage in there.

Hey OP I eat tofu basically every day, here's my recipe

- 1 box of tofu (not silken), pressed for at least 4 hours to remove water
- 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp dried dill weed
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add olive oil, dill, red pepper flakes, black pepper, toasted sesame oil, and soy sauce to large bowl and stir to combine.
2. Cut tofu into 1" cubes, add to the bowl and mix well to coat with sauce.
3. Arrange tofu mixture in a single layer on parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
3. Bake 30 minutes. Remove tray from oven, flip over tofu pieces, and put back in oven for 10 more minutes.

It's extremely important to press the liquid out of the tofu if you want it to have any texture or flavor. It's easiest with an actual "tofu press" device that you can leave in the fridge over night, or you can just wrap it in a towel and put something heavy on top of it.

I'll try something like this with the other block I have. I actually pressed this block too hard and it fell apart into crumbles in a couple spots.

Also if you want something that tastes kinda sorta like fried chicken, this is my alt recipe for when I get tired of the asian flavor one.

- 1 package of tofu (firm or extra firm), pressed
- 1.5 tbsp potato starch or corn starch
- 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Same instructions and baking time.

Tips for tofu

Make sure to dry it out as much as possible by squeezing it down (typically sliced first)

Pan fry with salt and pepper at the minimum because it's basically a flavorless sponge meant to absorb whatever you're cooking along with it

Try getting as much moisture out as possible then freeze it for a very sponge like texture that absorbs marinades x10

Youre frying for texture and releasing more moisture. Its not meat in that you want it med rare, you want something nice and crispy
>>
>>21923692
Also OP, from this point in the preparation, you would want to cook this in a sauce.
>>
>>21923671
Air frying is not actual cooking and tofu is not actual food. Take this faggoty shit back to red-dit you lazy cooklet piece of shit
>>
>>21923683
>tikka masala
Fuck off you street shitting Indian scum
>>
I'm growing to understand why people get air fryers. It has nothing to do with 'conveneince', these are people who have absolutely no idea how to cook and can only manage simple steps like 'put thing in basket, press button'. Maybe start learning, maybe start with figuring out how to boil water without the microwave.
>>
>>21923875
It's actually a British dish.
>>
>>21923683
just use paneer. there's literally no reason to go the tofu route.
>>
>>21923879
This is how I view people who use smokers, unironically.
>>
>>21923883
pretty much the same coin, but with the added handicap of not having a sense of taste.
>>
Cooklets obsess over not using appliances because you're obsessed with the appearance of cooking skill, since you have none. Normal cooks are comfortable using a wide range of techniques and tools in the kitchen. You're the same tards cooking shitty sloppy rice on the stove instead of using a rice cooker like literal chefs do. Being dumb is not a virtue and the only prize you win is humiliation

>>
>>21923879
The same goes for any "smart" appliance. They're all for lazy and dumb people.
