There's this donut shop in georgia that makes very flat apple fritters called Applebest and they are absolutely head and shoulders above a normal fritter.

Like, 2 years ago I gave blood at my local blood donation place and partook in a complementary donut after. I took a maple bar from an unlabeled, generic white donut box and it was possibly one of the best donuts I'd ever eaten. It had a weirdly kinda chewy dough that I wouldn't normally associate with donuts but worked really well and was very generously glazed, it also tasted cold like it just came out of the fridge which again, worked very well. I almost took another but thought that would be overstepping my complementary donut privileges. Still thinking about it.
