>>21943093The way restaurants use honey is disgusting, I don't know who thought it was a good idea to start slathering savoury dishes in literal sugar syrup.A little bit tastes good, but it stops being nice after the 2rd mouthful of pure sweet sugar.
>>21943128Sweet can be nice with savory but it's so hamfisted. I'm not a huge fan of the flavor of honey either so it's doubly cloying when they go too far.
>>21943145>Sweet can be nice with savoryOh I definitely agree with that, roasts are absolutely delicious with a nice apple sauce, and I do like a slice of pineapple on a burger. The problem with honey is that it's just way TOO sweet, it is something like 80% sugar, and is so thick it just coats the inside of your mouth. There is nearly no subtlety with honey, it's just going to make a dish taste like honey.
>>21943148Yeah 100% agree, not a big fan of honey for those reasons, you need to be very judicious with its use or it just overpowers. And of course these places are never judicious with it.
I still don't know what an IPA is
>>21943171India pale ale, it's a variety of hoppy light ale. It's a common choice for small-batch/home brewing and is generally considered higher quality than mainstream beers. It carries the same kind of general aura of wankery as any other small-batch high-quality exclusive product. Same as cellar door wines or allocated bourbons. They do generally taste good though.
>>21943178>cellar door wines or allocated bourbonsdon't know what those are either. I haven't been to a restaurant in 20 years. I actually haven't heard either of those terms until right now. cost of rural living I guess.
>>21943186>don't know what those are eitherCellar door wines are bottles sold directly at the wineries themselves (often sold right outside their cellar's door, hence the name). Many people travel long distances to go to specific wineries or wine regions and go around to all the cellar doors in an area and sample/purchase the wine (my parents used to do this when I was growing up, wine regions are usually beautiful, but the cellar doors aren't my thing). I don't know much about allocated bourbons, but from what I understand they are special batches that are produced in low quantities and are in limited supply (even larger whisky companies produce these special batches), so bottle shops will only get one or two of them tops. This means they have to "allocate" bottles to specific regular customers, and they are usually kept out of view/out of reach of normal customers. If you already know what ale tastes like, IPAs probably aren't going to rock your world. If you aren't an ale drinker, you might as well buy a 4/6 pack and give it a try. Most of the wankery is long gone these days tbdesu.
>>21943171>>21943186do you live in north maluku or something? you can barely even buy beer that isn't IPA in the US. I'm sure it exists but god knows if anyone can find it
>>21943218I live in rural Pennsylvania. my beer store is a gas station. they sell coors, busch, bud, and white claw. the gas station is also where I buy milk and bread. >>21943189I'll try to find an IPA if I go to a real beer store in the city, although I've never been to a real beer distributor so it's possible that will never happen.
>>21943232I've been to pike county which is rural PA and they have all kinds of crazy high octane hopped up kraft beers, but I think the really amish places are out west, are you closer to ohio?
>>21943237I'm in wyoming county in a place that's so far from a hospital that you'll have been dead for a half hour by the time you reach it in an ambulance. the nearest little village of 1000 people is 15 minutes away on the highway and the nearest actual city is like an hour, which is where the nearest hospital is.I don't want to live here but my house is very close to where I work. I own my house. I have fiber internet. I don't know. Could be worse or something. I just have to miss out on basically every perk of modern civilization.

>>21943145>>21943148I fuckin love honey. Would eat it by the spoonful if there were no negative health effects. Sometimes I do a spoonful when my throat is sore. But even I don't like how much hot honey is everywhere. My local pizza place does a stromboli which is great but then there's a variant which has hot honey on it. I tried that and for the first 2-3 bites it was nice but after that I just got tired of it. It's really annoying that when a cool new ingredient is found, some people just have to throw it on anything and everything just because it's new
>>21943232Your gas station probably has IPAs. Just look for Voodoo ranger or Troegs. Troegs is everywhere in PA and so is Voodoo ranger. If not, go to literally any grocery store. Walmart for sure has them. They're not exactly top shelf anymore.

I've never had a burger at one of these places I was blown away by. The closest was one place in my city and they got their meat from a nearby butcher and it was pretty good desu. However never going back since they were asking for tips despite the fact they were takeout only fucking unreal the nerve of these places.
>>21943281I'm in the same situation but in eastern Oregon. The fiber internet is nice. People are nice. Tumbleweeds roll by me on a daily basis and it's comfy. I miss living somewhat close to a city where I could get reasonably priced groceries and not need to go to the hospital in a helicopter but there's not much else to complain about.
>>21946539>Eastern Oregon My sympathies that most of your state is held hostage by Portland.

>>21947037I'm one of those anons and I assure you that I am not living the dream. I have no land, my neighbors are drug dealers and drug users. I work 13 hours a day, Im going to die if I ever need medical help. I live nowhere near any perks of modern civilization like ethnic markets, butcher shops, restaurants of any kind, etc. It would literally take 2 and a half hours out of my day to go to a restaurant.
>>21942854i remember hipster memes like they were yesterdaybetter times...>>21943121im shocked they kept at it for so long given they were riding on novelty
>>21947037Oregon anon here, Wyoming anon is apparently miserable but I like it here. My tiny town has a butcher shop, several restaurants (they all serve the same kind of food but it's cheap and good), my neighborhood is quiet and nice, we have basic doctors and dentists and there's lots to do outdoors. There are downsides to being in a rural town but I've lived in them for so long now that cities just piss me off when I go there. As far as Portland dominating politics for the rest of the state, it really only affects us in ways like gas being expensive and lack of funds for infrastructure. They're less interested in imposing their will than they are in just ignoring the east side entirely.
>>21942773That seems too typical and common for a hipster place
>>21947045I'm sorry I misunderstood, anon. I wish you a better job and a ticket outta there.13hr days are bullshit, man>>21947240Baste. I'm in a suburb with plenty of amenities but the rising COL is making it harder and harder for me to even enjoy them. I have to be really particular with my groceries to get the good quality stuff, with trips to the butcher for special occasions :( I'm close enough to rural areas to find farm fresh eggs during the right season, which is sick, but they know their worth desu They charge $6 a dozen, just .50 cheaper than the grocery store fancy eggs. They're still better though lolAnywayIf you're paying close enough attention you'll know it's not just a city controlling/influencing things. I get pretty apathetic about our ability to affect change, but I will say I hope your area stays nice.

>>21947678yeah Tunkhannock is the little village of like 1000 people. the embers ghost squad Weis is basically the apex of culinary ingredient shopping around here. if I ever buy another house it'll be close to Scranton but honestly I just want to get the fuck out of this area. after they closed down Tyler Memorial I'm literally driving an hour to Scranton for doctors appointments. Sometimes even 2 hours to Allentown.
>>21945170i think hot AND honey is a better combination than making it a sibgle uniform condiment?dressing?
>>21947705low bun helps a little bit but tying it up in anyway probably wont help your hairline (traction alopecia)its why athletic/gym girls sometimes have 7heads
I had one of these places open up after they bought a old burger joint that closed after they got caught ignoring a bad roach problem (made sure they passed a health inspection with an A before going). Was the typical brick walls, uncomfortable seats, fries are separate, all burgers but the classic have over complicated crap added, etc shit you see in the memes. Only thing good was the spinach dip and the slightly chubby waitress who served me (put my number on the receipt with a big tip, but she never called/texted me rip).
>>21947912Man, remember when $13.99 for a burger AND fries was outlandish, not quite believable rage bait?
>>21947705You'd have to be real retarded to actually go bald from a bun. It hurts to tie your hair up tight enough to create a bald spot.It is just genetics>>21947888Same with this, the hair is uncomfortably tight for hours to cause traction alopecia. If you do this you're retarded. Yes, including the gym girls. The only excusable cases are gymnasts and dancers, because they get points docked for dumb shit like that.
>>21947912> Separate friesI think I would leave if I saw that, what a racket
>>21947705Are you actually bald or just a "mature hairline"? t. fell down the men's hair loss paranoia rabbit hole a few years ago, realized I was just getting psyoped
>>21947887Oh so like honey with whatever hot sauce or other source of spice? Yeah that's probably good. You could use whatever kind of honey you wanted as well.
>>21947912The boomers were absolutely right about at least one thing - if I'm paying for a burger I want fries. No separate charge for fucking fries.
>>21948045yeah or dumping honey on somethat has has already been seasoned/glazed/spicethen you get that variation of honeyless and honeyed food
>>21948047Especially considering potatos are incredibly cheap by volume. Charging seperate for fries is just inflating your profit margins. These businesses are run by egotistical people that think whatever they do is special and they can charge however they want. They never run specials and if they do its something more expensive than on the regular menu. Fuck thats a rant, the fact no restaurant anymore seems to run specials that are budget friendly. Like that was the whole purpose of specials.
>>21948017>egg posting in 2026
>>21948047What if I want greens instead
>>21948147Same rule applies - the side should come with the burger. I just said fries because that's normally what comes with a burger and normally that's what I want with a burger. >>21948137Agreed on both your points. My local diner/bar does specials but only rarely are they cheaper than the regular menu. And they're usually good too, I just wish they were less expensive.
>>21948137> EgotisticalAbsolutely. We had a local brewery pop up in my town that is unfortunately still doing well. The only reason I say that is because I know the owner, he's a complete ass who shat all over a good chef to hire cheaper labor. Their food is mediocre and they charge like a steak house. But they were the first to bring hipster bullshit to a growing Midwest suburb, and are considered "cool" and high quality compared to all the chain slop we've had for 30yrs. We've had great locally owned foreign food for awhile, but they were the first burger/gastropub to wow the crowds.
>>21943189>but from what I understand they are special batches that are produced in low quantitiesMiddleton Jameson tour in Ireland is a trek out of town (3hrs), plus the very interesting tour leads you to a gift shop where you can purchase some small batch aged things never on sale elsewhere. I remember being still tipsy from the night before, it being 10am, and also having just finished a taste test. I was also not looking forward to another day of driving with the near head-on collisions every 20 minutes. I was so not in the mood to even fathom dragging bottles home through my luggage no matter the exclusivity and effort. My issue is also that I overpack. Back in the day, pre TSA no biggie.
>>21942769I, for one, appreciate my craft beers and the places that offer them.
>>21948234I like craft beers but I prefer to go to bars for them. I find restaurants charge more for them, maybe because they don't think the customer is the wiser.
>>21948137>Especially considering potatos are incredibly cheapBut they do things a little bit differently, they fry their sharables in avocado oil and season them with salt, and truffle oil (garlic and oil) with a side the of the special house sauce (ketchup and mayo)
Never get a burger and fries at a sit-down restaurant it's never worth it. If you want a burg that bad just go to Steak n Shake or Culvers or you're paying a premium for a greasy messy burger with a toothpick in it and 7$ extra for your fries.

>>21943178I would clarify that the perception of "higher quality" has more to do with the fact that its craft breweries that make IPAs, in comparison to macro shit like Budweiser which are genrally bad. The problem is that IPAs taste distinctively hoppy and are quick and easy to produce, creating this feedback loop where people who are just getting into craft beer think its all that craft beer has to offer and breweries can just churn them out to match the demand. Seriously every place you go to has like 3 IPAs, a standard ale and maybe a lagerI disagree with comparing it to small batch/limited edition wines or whiskeys. Its more like clueless people who buy macbooks because theres a buzz of quality around them even though theyre fine at best and there are better computer options out there.
This millennial burger meme shows how brainrotted zoomers are and how little they actually talk to people. You could clown on millennials for being a bunch of therapy-dependant retards with extreme college debt, but all the kids joke about is niche shit they saw online that doesn't actually capture what's uniquely retarded about a generation.
>>21950910It's not a niche thingArticles are written about it a whole year agoIt's just an aesthetic that is still going, and the meme mocking it has been going on for 10 years minimum. It just wasn't viral until recently
