The way restaurants use honey is disgusting, I don't know who thought it was a good idea to start slathering savoury dishes in literal sugar syrup.
A little bit tastes good, but it stops being nice after the 2rd mouthful of pure sweet sugar.
>>
>>21943128
Sweet can be nice with savory but it's so hamfisted. I'm not a huge fan of the flavor of honey either so it's doubly cloying when they go too far.
>>
>>21943145
>Sweet can be nice with savory
Oh I definitely agree with that, roasts are absolutely delicious with a nice apple sauce, and I do like a slice of pineapple on a burger.
The problem with honey is that it's just way TOO sweet, it is something like 80% sugar, and is so thick it just coats the inside of your mouth. There is nearly no subtlety with honey, it's just going to make a dish taste like honey.
>>
>>21943148
Yeah 100% agree, not a big fan of honey for those reasons, you need to be very judicious with its use or it just overpowers. And of course these places are never judicious with it.
>>
I still don't know what an IPA is

India pale ale, it's a variety of hoppy light ale. It's a common choice for small-batch/home brewing and is generally considered higher quality than mainstream beers.
It carries the same kind of general aura of wankery as any other small-batch high-quality exclusive product. Same as cellar door wines or allocated bourbons.
They do generally taste good though.
>>
>>21943178
>cellar door wines or allocated bourbons
don't know what those are either. I haven't been to a restaurant in 20 years. I actually haven't heard either of those terms until right now. cost of rural living I guess.
>>
>>21943186
>don't know what those are either
Cellar door wines are bottles sold directly at the wineries themselves (often sold right outside their cellar's door, hence the name). Many people travel long distances to go to specific wineries or wine regions and go around to all the cellar doors in an area and sample/purchase the wine (my parents used to do this when I was growing up, wine regions are usually beautiful, but the cellar doors aren't my thing).
I don't know much about allocated bourbons, but from what I understand they are special batches that are produced in low quantities and are in limited supply (even larger whisky companies produce these special batches), so bottle shops will only get one or two of them tops. This means they have to "allocate" bottles to specific regular customers, and they are usually kept out of view/out of reach of normal customers.
If you already know what ale tastes like, IPAs probably aren't going to rock your world.
If you aren't an ale drinker, you might as well buy a 4/6 pack and give it a try. Most of the wankery is long gone these days tbdesu.

I'm in wyoming county in a place that's so far from a hospital that you'll have been dead for a half hour by the time you reach it in an ambulance. the nearest little village of 1000 people is 15 minutes away on the highway and the nearest actual city is like an hour, which is where the nearest hospital is.

I don't want to live here but my house is very close to where I work. I own my house. I have fiber internet. I don't know. Could be worse or something. I just have to miss out on basically every perk of modern civilization.

I fuckin love honey. Would eat it by the spoonful if there were no negative health effects. Sometimes I do a spoonful when my throat is sore.
But even I don't like how much hot honey is everywhere. My local pizza place does a stromboli which is great but then there's a variant which has hot honey on it. I tried that and for the first 2-3 bites it was nice but after that I just got tired of it.
It's really annoying that when a cool new ingredient is found, some people just have to throw it on anything and everything just because it's new
>>
>>21943232

Oregon anon here, Wyoming anon is apparently miserable but I like it here. My tiny town has a butcher shop, several restaurants (they all serve the same kind of food but it's cheap and good), my neighborhood is quiet and nice, we have basic doctors and dentists and there's lots to do outdoors. There are downsides to being in a rural town but I've lived in them for so long now that cities just piss me off when I go there.
As far as Portland dominating politics for the rest of the state, it really only affects us in ways like gas being expensive and lack of funds for infrastructure. They're less interested in imposing their will than they are in just ignoring the east side entirely.
>>
>>21942773

>>21947240
Baste. I'm in a suburb with plenty of amenities but the rising COL is making it harder and harder for me to even enjoy them. I have to be really particular with my groceries to get the good quality stuff, with trips to the butcher for special occasions :(
I'm close enough to rural areas to find farm fresh eggs during the right season, which is sick, but they know their worth desu They charge $6 a dozen, just .50 cheaper than the grocery store fancy eggs. They're still better though lol

Anyway
If you're paying close enough attention you'll know it's not just a city controlling/influencing things. I get pretty apathetic about our ability to affect change, but I will say I hope your area stays nice.

I had one of these places open up after they bought a old burger joint that closed after they got caught ignoring a bad roach problem (made sure they passed a health inspection with an A before going). Especially considering potatos are incredibly cheap by volume. Charging seperate for fries is just inflating your profit margins. These businesses are run by egotistical people that think whatever they do is special and they can charge however they want. They never run specials and if they do its something more expensive than on the regular menu. Fuck thats a rant, the fact no restaurant anymore seems to run specials that are budget friendly. Like that was the whole purpose of specials.

>>
>>21948137
> Egotistical
Absolutely.
We had a local brewery pop up in my town that is unfortunately still doing well. The only reason I say that is because I know the owner, he's a complete ass who shat all over a good chef to hire cheaper labor.
Their food is mediocre and they charge like a steak house. But they were the first to bring hipster bullshit to a growing Midwest suburb, and are considered "cool" and high quality compared to all the chain slop we've had for 30yrs.
We've had great locally owned foreign food for awhile, but they were the first burger/gastropub to wow the crowds.

>but from what I understand they are special batches that are produced in low quantities
Middleton Jameson tour in Ireland is a trek out of town (3hrs), plus the very interesting tour leads you to a gift shop where you can purchase some small batch aged things never on sale elsewhere. I remember being still tipsy from the night before, it being 10am, and also having just finished a taste test. I was also not looking forward to another day of driving with the near head-on collisions every 20 minutes. I was so not in the mood to even fathom dragging bottles home through my luggage no matter the exclusivity and effort. My issue is also that I overpack. Back in the day, pre TSA no biggie.

I'm happy for you. The retard I was replying to said that thing X was a meme and thing Y was for midwits. I'm saying that tallow is a midwit meme in current year. Just because it was used before doesn't change that. Most memes/fads had some level of use before the fad, things are rarely totally original.

I would clarify that the perception of "higher quality" has more to do with the fact that its craft breweries that make IPAs, in comparison to macro shit like Budweiser which are genrally bad. The problem is that IPAs taste distinctively hoppy and are quick and easy to produce, creating this feedback loop where people who are just getting into craft beer think its all that craft beer has to offer and breweries can just churn them out to match the demand. Seriously every place you go to has like 3 IPAs, a standard ale and maybe a lager

I disagree with comparing it to small batch/limited edition wines or whiskeys. Its more like clueless people who buy macbooks because theres a buzz of quality around them even though theyre fine at best and there are better computer options out there.
>>
This millennial burger meme shows how brainrotted zoomers are and how little they actually talk to people. You could clown on millennials for being a bunch of therapy-dependant retards with extreme college debt, but all the kids joke about is niche shit they saw online that doesn't actually capture what's uniquely retarded about a generation.

>May I have the BEARDY MCBEARDMAN MEGA BEEFY QUADRUPLE BEEF BEER BACON N BOURBON BURGER WITH 3000 MONTH PINK HIMALAYAN SALT CAVE AGED CRUELTY FREE SLAVERY FREE NON GMO FARM TO TABLE CIGAR SMOKED GOUDA
>Oh, and of COURSE! My apologies for not realizing that the hot sauce menu was a subset of the MAIN menu (albeit a separate pamphlet detailing the intricacies of each sauce, as well as pairing suggestions, would be a welcome addition (pass that along to your sauce monger)). Though I am yet to taste it, I am sure that my buddies at the barcade - yes, a portmanteau of 'bar' and 'arcade,' and YES, you can actually DRINK as you PLAY VIDEO GAMES, whatever will they think of next? - will be utterly TICKLED by the label your crew has concocted for that bottle!
*taps glass*
>and another round of your hoppiest IPA, please!
