31 years old and I got the gout. I never ate liver or organ meats. Limit my fried foods and junk food. Don't drink. Now I can't apparently eat shellfish, red meat, deenz, and other high uric acid foods. Do I end it? Looking at the diet I would rather hang than live in fear of a slice of pizza or shrimp causing a 3-4 days attack. Anyways, gout gang, what is your diet like or what have you found success in eating to subdue the searing pain?
>>21943099>organ meatsIf only there was a word for that.

Goutsisters is it over for us? I'll never be able to eat spinach or kale again : (
>>21943114The limit any proteins except soy and eggs is what kills me. I love me eggs but I will not eat fuckin tofu. I just wanna know from someone who has it how bad the diet you have to follow is.
my medically necessary diet is way worse than that stop being a pussy. I basically eat oatmeal and water for every meal. fuck you. I would kill a mother fucked to eat a fucking egg.
>>21943131I would legit kill myself if I was forced to eat gruul and water daily.
>>21943099That’s scary. What causes people to get gout? What can I do to make sure this doesn’t happen to me
>>21943158generally it's caused by being fat and having a shitty diet
>>21943158From what I heard eating a lot sugar and boozing. I actually got my yearly blood results done at my GP like 2 years ago and I got diagnosed with "early gout" or some bullshit. I had been drinking the night before and was kind of hungover and didn't eat much the day prior to getting my blood taken. I was freaking out about it for like a week and then I realized I didn't actually have any symptoms and I put 2 and 2 together lol

AI will be used to wipe out humanity with bioweapons far before anyone uses it to cure cancer.I'm struggling to accept it but I feel like I'm in the death phase of my life. nothing gets better, just worse. I'm below 120 pounds for the first time in my life. I do a physical job for a living and I can barely even choke down 1500 calories a day, let alone the 2500 to 3000 I need to sustain physical activity.Sorry for the blog posting.
>>21943251I'm being nosy, so feel free to ignoreWhy are you on that diet? Is it still under investigation or are you diagnosed?

>gout at 31You must have severely abused your body for years to get illnesses in your 30sI am 34 years old and I ate fried chicken and onion rings yesterday, but I had fried okra with it too because I am not a lardass
>>21943099>goutthats an old people disease, how the fuck did you manage to get it????
>>21943298I get chest, back, shoulder, and arm pains when when I eat certain foods. Gastro keeps saying it's acid related but acid reducing medication doesn't help. It takes food forever to leave my stomach and I'll often feel nauseous for 5 hours after eating a bowl of plain oatmeal or a cup of cottage cheese. I had an endoscopy like 18 months ago and it came back clean. My gastro thinks of I had another one it would show inflammation. Last thing my gastro said was consider getting my gallbladder removed. But I'm sick of paying doctors to make random guesses about my health that are always wrong. I've just been dealing with it lately and not going to the doctor.Example: I ate a bowl of oatmeal and half of a plain small salmon filet 5 hours ago. My stomach still hurts and I'm still nauseous and burping salmon. Then when my stomach actually becomes empty the pain seems to increase drastically for like a half hour. The cycle of eating, nausea, and pain makes it very hard just to sustain myself.
>>21943099Are you overweight? >>21943318I've had similar issues. Have you been tested for malnutrition? Blood tests aren't always helpful unfortunately. I had some deficiencies that were making me more reactive to food because it weakens your gut. I also realized that I just don't tolerate beans and grains all that well. Those things can be hard to digest for some and they're high in things like lectins which get reduced with cooking but may still not be safe for everyone. That's why most cultures sprouted/fermented them first but we don't really do that as much anymore. Potatoes and any other root vegetables are usually easier to digest if you haven't tried them already and they cause less issues for people who might struggle with grains.
>>21943099It must be hard when youve enjoyed rhese foods for so long but you have it in you to adapt OP. I learned the body adjusts to diet and you learn to enjoy foods you didnt before. You just need to take the initiative and stick to it. Life is more than food, never forget that my friend.
>>21943318Unironically try dumping all your medical history and symptoms in ChatGPT for a diagnosis Doctors don’t give a fuck about u if you don’t fit a pattern they already know
WELL I'LL TELL YOU WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH
>>21943380No I haven't been tested for malnutrition. I take B12, iron, and magnesium every day because I barely eat meat. Some days I take a multivitamin if I barely ate anything at all. I think I've settled into my current diet because I know I can eat it and if I try a meal that doesn't work out then I might ruin my chance to even eat food that day.>>21943388Yeah I'm about there I guess but I've been through years of testing and multiple doctors. Whatever AI says is going to require testing that I've likely already been through like an endoscopy.
>>21943400>I take B12, iron, and magnesium every dayThat's alright. What forms are you taking though? There are better forms of supplements available now with better absorption which ended up being more helpful to me. Methylcobalamin for B12 and iron bisglycinate are better than what you'll find in average supplements. Magnesium oxide is common but not very helpful and you can get that in magnesium glycinate. I also benefited from omega 3 but you say you're eating fish so that may not be necessary. If you aren't eating a lot of fruit/veg then you probably need vitamin C. If you actually digest the oatmeal then copper may not be an issue but it was for me too. And you need copper for your body to properly use iron. Iron helped me but once I added in copper there was even more improvement. I have CSID so I don't really digest starch or sucrose. Doctors don't really seem helpful figuring these things out and they kept ignoring all my malnutrition symptoms and telling me I was fine. I still tolerated potatoes better than grains even if the potatoes didn't give me any energy.
>>21943409>I don't really digest starch or sucrosehow are you alive?
>>21943318Have you had your thyroid checked? I had a myriad of issues similar to that and after 15 years of on-and-off trying to figure it out the correct diagnosis was Hashimotos. Basically, your immune system attacks your thyroid. There's a whole host of symptoms that can arise from that, some related to joint pain and digestion. It's not commonly associated with gut issues yet but I don't understand why. I think America is just behind on it, it's more prevalent in Asia. This isn't a bad idea either: >>21943380There are a lot of vitamin/nutrient deficiencies that can fuck you up.This though, is hit or miss: >>21943388The last round of debilitating health issues that led to my diagnosis had similar symptoms to food allergies specifically. My doctor, my dad, and other people did this for me and kept insisting I go get multiple full back allergy panels done. I got one, and I was allergic to like 3 things that weren't actually causing me the most problems, it wasn't fucking allergies. The last appt I had with gp, he did the same shit, plugged my symptoms into chatgpt and gave me a referral for another allergy test. I had already given him all of my medical history, my theory, and what the allergist originally said (she's the one who suggested thyroid issues) but he trusted chatgpt over himself at this point, fucking pathetic. Use your own god damn brain, ya know? Luckily the allergist gave me the referral I needed for an endocrinologist, and he completely agreed, got me thyroid meds, and I feel like I have a new lease on life.Research hashimoto, hypo and hyper thyroid symptoms, and see what you think. Over the years I had many blood tests for the normal auto immune diseases, all came back negative until the Thyroid Antibodies one. Maybe try the AIP diet if you think it's specific to food, but because of the joint pain I think it's an auto-immune thing like hashis.
>>21943414I was incredibly sick a few years ago because of it. But I was able to treat the malnutrition and it doesn't limit other carbs. So I can have lactose, fructose, glucose. Corn syrup is actually okay for me lol but an orange isn't. Anything else is mostly fine if it's not starch or that specific type of sugar.
>>21943417I want to add, once I got on meds and was feeling better I went back to get allergy tested on the handful of things that were positive. They all came back negative. My immune system was just so overactive at that point it was a false positive. I'm so lucky that allergist had my back, she did my second visit and was happy for me
>>21943409Magnesium glycinate, cyanocobalamin, ferrous fumarate. I take a 9 mg iron gummy every morning and I chew it together with a 500mg vitamin c tablet. My problem with vitamin D is I don't tolerate fat very well and you have to take it with fat. I ate fish today but it was honestly a mistake and not something I regularly eat. When I eat potatoes I feel like my blood sugar spikes and then drops and I get really tired after 90 minutes. I tried just baking potatoes and just grabbing them and eating them when I was hungry but it just didn't work out. I eat oat groats a lot as well and liquid egg whites when I need more protein. I can also tolerate milk as long as I don't eat with it so some days I'll drink huge amounts of milk to fill the calories I couldn't eat. Like half a gallon of milk, or more.I'll try to find a better version of b12 and maybe try adding copper for sure.>>21943417yeah I've had my thyroid, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach, and heart checked. I actually have a friend with hashimotos so I know what it is and how shitty it can be untreated.I might ask for another test I guess. The last thyroid test was like 3 or 4 years ago because I've been dealing with this bullshit for at least that long.
>>21943431Also I know I can take the vitamin D with milk but I can't drink milk and eat food at the same time so Ill have to start taking it with the milk first thing in the morning or something. Honestly I could just give up on life and drink a gallon of milk a day but that isn't a solution.
>>21943431I'm glad it's on your radar. And like I said, it took 15yrs of shit health for the culmination of symptoms settle it for me. Either way, maybe a different auto immune disorder fits you? The joint pain is like, number one red flag for auto immune. I wish you luck, and a swifter solution
>>219434319mg of ferrous fumarate isn't much. 8mg is the RDA for men which may be a little low and fumarate isn't absorbed well. Women need 18mg. And if you have an iron deficiency you'd need even more. Try iron bisglycinate ~20mg with vitamin C, taking that has helped me a lot including with some stomach issues. Blood tests for iron are actually a bit more reliable and not too expensive if you can get that done, but you also need ferritin tested and not just serum iron. If you do have an iron deficiency that can cause a ton of various other issues and deficiencies. Like if you have low iron then you can also have low sodium which can cause low stomach acid and poor digestion and fatigue after eating. I thought I had blood sugar issues but it just turned out to be digestion putting more strain on my heart that was already struggling. >tolerate milk as long as I don't eat with it I've experienced that sometimes too. I do well with milk and drank a good amount of it every day too. If it's something you tolerate then try drinking it in the morning before you have anything else to at least keep some nutrition up. Milk provides a lot of nutrition but the two major things it's lacking is iron and copper.
>>21943434Thanks. Unfortunately digestive tract inflammation can also cause neck, chest, and back pain. The arm pain confuses me and honestly gives me anxiety because sometimes I'm having many of the symptoms of a heart attack.
>>21943441I have this other iron I haven't opened yet. I'll look for bisglycinate next time. I actually avoid eating too much sodium so I think it's totally possible for me to have sodium deficiency. I do get the fatigue after eating as well and I always have since I can remember. When I was younger I would avoid eating all day then eat like a whole pizza after work.i had a heart echo, treadmill ekg, and I wore a heart monitor for a month last year (for palpitations, which I still have) and they said they didn't find anything so I'm still hoping it's not heart related.
>>21943449I think I've seen some people say they tolerated that brand of iron a bit better. It might be worth trying but bisglycinate still seems to be the best.>avoid eating all day then eat like a whole pizza after work.Yeah I did the same thing since not eating let me feel better sometimes. But in the long run it makes things worse.>i had a heart echo, treadmill ekg, and I wore a heart monitor for a month last year (for palpitations, which I still have) and they said they didn't find anything so I'm still hoping it's not heart related.A doctor told me my heart sounded like it was struggling a little but there was nothing noticeably wrong too. Palpitations could be from low iron and also maybe low potassium. Milk is a good source of potassium. Just drinking that regularly may be enough but at least with what I can tell right now it sounds like you might benefit from better quality/higher iron too with all the heart problems and fatigue on top of your low intake.
>>21943099I got gout from losing weight too quickly when I was never particularly fat or had a gout-causing diet in the first place. It was really annoying and lasted for months, but it never progressed beyond minor symptoms.
>>21943426But sucrose (=saccharose) is just those two sugars (glucose+fructose) connected together. And any human should have more than enough enzymes to quickly split it into tthe two.You think you might have a lack of invertase enzyme? But even the sour liquid of the stomach should be able to decompose it into the two.
>>21943318>Gastro keeps saying it's acid related but acid reducing medication doesn't help.Which one(s)? What strength? Did you take it 1 hour before eating in the morning, and did you take it daily for at least 14 days in a row? Did you know you can supplement pepcid in the evenings too? When they did the endoscopy, did they see barrets esophagus signs? Belching is a sign. Are fattier meals, like garlic rolls, sausage, peppers, or very heavy meals have more symptoms? Did they do hpylori testing? If your answer is no to anything above, just get a 2nd opinion or a new gastro, such as in a university setting. Maybe get the whole workup again.
>>21943489I took 40 mg omeprazole for 2 years. 20 mg pantoprazole for 6 months. 20 mg famotidine as needed occasionally but never really did me any good. As of right now I'm not on anything. Endoscopy was clean, they said nothing was wrong at all. Yes, heavy and fatty meals are much worse. But so are large meals that are not fatty. They didn't do h pylori test and never in the course of my treatment was it ever brought up as a possibility. And yeah I haven't been back in a couple months and I'm being forced to switch doctors by UHC anyway.
>>21943478Lactose is just glucose and galactose but it still causes problems for a lot of people. It's low sucrase which is mainly what breaks down sucrose. Stomach acid might help a little bit, I can tolerate like a few grams in a meal, but going much higher than that and I get digestive issues pretty quickly.
>>21943099Start food prep. Increase your activity.imo most of the food offerings in the west are concerning. Diving hard into culinary lets us emphasize nutrition, makes the food better, and allows us to eat even cheaper. >>21943225We're this way out of necessity.
>>21943131i remember you
>>21943099never bothered being properly diagnosed but gout runs in my family and when I was drinking (heavily) occasionally I'd get flares of foot pain so severe I wouldn't be able to walk for like a week. Haven't had an issue since I managed to stop boozing and lost a bunch of weight, even with occasionally eating shitty, but it's a spectrum. If I had it bad enough to effect my diet I'd get on medication for sure.
>>21943292This has nothing to do with gout or a meals you can enjoy while having it.
>>21943303My big toe, index toe, and middle toe joints feel like they are being seared on a flatiron. If i move then even an inch it radiates pain that goes halfway up my leg. It is the joints that hurt not the whole bone itself.
>>21943304I drank hard from 15-20 but quit as I realized a life of that was not what I wanted. Other than that no abuse other than playing tennis from 5-21, year round most of the time. I doubt that would spark it though. I enjoyed fried food, pizza, steaks, burgers and the sorts from time to time but never in excess especially not since I hit my 30s.
>>21943306Apparently genetics
>>21943380OP here, no and never been.
>>21943099My father recently got gout at 76. He also technically never ate junk food or organ meat. He did, however, eat red meat all. the. fucking. time. He's on medication now but he used to have the kind of diet that would give a medieval king second hand embarrassment over how rich it was.
>>21943799No drug use? Were you taking any medications? It's diagnosed and proven and not just guessing because you have joint pain?If so then it's unfortunate but some people are just prone to developing these issues even if they do everything right :(
>>21943806Used drugs in my early 20s as I loved raves but life got more serious and I had to stop the partying like that.
>>21943113>offalOk? Same thing as organ meat(s)
>>21943099Pork belly caused my gout, occasional beef and shellfish consumption is fine for me with recommended usage of allopurinol, but care for liver damage. Speak with your specialist before anything. Chicken and garlic based dishes help, and pasta too. Also a lot of eggs and tofu even if you dont mind that. Salmon is good too.I eat pizza with tomato sauce and pepperoni here and there, all about lowering your uric acid level first and then gauging what you can eat first without causing major increases. Dont punish yourself completely just be careful and moderation.

>>21943099I cured mine by losing 150 lbs. But it's miserable while you're losing the weight because on top of being hungry the crystals start decaying and they cause tons of minor gout attacks on the way out.
to the fucked up person in this thread if you've really gotten so many tests done your diagnosis shouldnt be rocket science at this point. Soup and salad, but any meat drop it to 2 oz.Then for dinner, the deck of cards size of protein, ie 4-6 oz only. Again, easy to limit it if you break it up into a pasta or salad serving. You'll be fine soon, but no alcohol and maybe look into some cherry juice.
tart cherry juice is your friend, especially concentrate
